How useful is wind in Minecraft?

In this Mumbo Jumbo Minecraft redstone video, we take a look at the new wind charge that has been introduced in one of the latest Minecraft snapshots, and is in Minecraft Snapshot 24w07a. These Minecraft snapshots for Minecraft 1.21 include a tonne of new Minecraft redstone features and components, and the wind charge allows wireless redstone devices and long range activation of redstone contraptions.

  • In his last hermit craft video ppl were discussing why Mumbo is so popular and why he seems so pioneering when ppl like Doc do such technical stuff and this is why. Obvs Mumbo is very good at the technical stuff, but his niche is the more whimsical, more out there stuff that no one would even think of doing. Like his HC 8 blaze farm with the wolf is a rly good example of this. Imaginative ppl often give the game breaking ppl the idea they need to do that stuff. Him saying how turning street lights on w windcharges , when there are much easier ways to do this explains why he is so loved and why so many ppl got into red stone cause of him

  • This video inspired me to test something. If you place 4 dispensers facing inwards and put a charge in each one, you can shoot yourself roughly 40 blocks into the air consistently, and you take no damage falling back down. Definitely making a floating or hanging base with a wind-powered launcher to get in (only slightly less fun than death by llama, I'd say).

  • The comparison between the new and old redstone drawing screen, WOW! 😮Wind charges are very cool for that alone. I honestly wasn't really interested in the Trial Chambers before seeing this video (I'd rather finally have had bundles), but now I can't wait for the update to be out. ☺ I mean, I still want bundles in an update ASAP. But now I'm also super hyped for when we'll see people come up with Breeze farms (I'm especially curious how they'll handle the new Trial Spawner mechanics) and do cool stuff expanding on the things shown in this video. That "stringlights" path would be so cool as the walk-up to a base, for example. A shame that wind charges weren't around for Demise in Hermitcraft season 10, someone being killed by wireless remote activated TNT would have had so much comedic potential! 😂

  • I watched a video on wind charges maybe a week ago, so something that might be interesting to test with is the fact that water can push wind charges without exploding them. Perhaps this could be used in a way to realign them for accuracy? I also wonder if they could activate tripwires without exploding since that combined with the ability to phase through some block types might be handy to activate multiple circuits while avoiding others.

  • I actually think you can make some uses for the randomness. I built a machine that uses it to, well kinda just gamble. And yes i know you can do that easier with basicslly just a dropper. But its SO cool watching the wind charge fly and hoping it will land right. For everyone who wants to know what i exactly did: I made a "password machine" (the one where you have to have a specific item in a hopper to activate redstone) for whatever your paying, connected that to a dispenser with windcharges, so it shoots when you throw the item in the hopper. Then i also connected a button infront of the dispenser so when it is shot, the dispenser will activate itself again. Then just connect that to a dropper with the item you can win. Now every time when a windcharge hits the button you get a (item of your choice) like a diamond or smth and it will shoot again. Once it misses you go with what you got or pay one more time to let it shoot again. In my experience you get an averege of 3-5 "selling items" in exchange for one "buying item", with some rare times being also just 1 or up to 11.

This might also be nice as a source of normalized randomness (e.g. activates the input near the middle most often and outer inputs less often.

Im specifically thinking you need to connect two separate contraptions (maybe you're making a master off switch or something) but there's an aesthetic room separating the two and you dont want any visible redstone there. Instead of going under or over the room, which may not always be an option, you could use wind charges to wirelessly send a signal across the room.

  • Honestly I do believe this is a revolutionary feature for redstone contraptions. The potential for wireless systems and different contraptions interacting with each other from a distance, while also being able to save space, I believe, will change the way people think about farms and things in the future. Really cool concept!

  • The fact it goes through blocks is really good for traps, imagine a wall with backwards stairs and you hit a button (or fart on it) and wind shoots out the wall and kills your mortal enemies enemies

  • The rocket jump effect can also be used with a piston and slime block to launch the player. If launched through dispensers in the correct way it can increase the height of the bounce a lot. For example when I tested it just now I got launched 6 blocks high with piston and slime alone. Adding a couple of dispensers I managed to reach more than 70 blocks high but this took me dispensing additional charges from a few dispensers along the way as well as several dispensers at the initial launch. Someone who, unlike me, knows what they are doing could probably come up with something interesting with that mechanic.

  • first time I've seen how they interact with redstone. I've been working on stringstone on a skyblock server but fartstone is fantastic!

  • The next layer of progression after tools and armor: Accessories: It Increases player’s stats like hit points, block reach, jump hieght, inventory slots… . An Additional heart icons will appear for the player. Accessories are crafted with blocks of ore (blocks of diamond, iron…) and unique loot from epic dungeons. They have levels just like tools and armor according to the ore it’s made of, just like armor and tools. They are spread through the dimension they are useful for, for example to craft the one who extends block reach, one should go to caves(trail chambers), adding inventory slots -> the end, adding breath points/bubbles oceans and adding hit points/hearts -> warden dimension… .

  • What's insane is this is pretty much exactly how grenades work in Marathon. They allow you to grenade jump (the first game that let you do that btw, every projectile pushes you opposite the direction you shoot it) AND they activate buttons from afar. Pretty sick mechanic that basically hasn't been revisited since 1996.

  • the wind charges going through non-full blocks made me think of a cool secret room mechanic. like, imagine backwards stairs in a wall that blend in perfectly but you can throw the wind charges through to activate some fancy thing
