Everything GREAT About Captain America: The Winter Soldier!

The Winter Soldier is regarded as one of the best of the MCU. That one critic from that one time who said it was bad is wrong. (I'm not sure he exists...) Here's everything right with Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier. Next week non-stop action.

  • The connection about Bucky not wearing his mask to mess with Cap, and him wearing his old suit to jog Bucky's memory was mindblowing.

    @wlot28@wlot287 жыл бұрын
    • I'm not completely sure about that. Presumably Bucky wore the mask in the beginning to keep Cap and SHIELD from recognizing him and possibly trying to deprogram him. I just assumed that they didn't have him wear it at the end because he didn't need to anymore.

Stan DID IN FACT train for the fight scenes and we SAW him and we KNEW he was capable of doing them, and yet in the movie, the knife parts is NOT him, and that sucks. @DustinIsHappy@DustinIsHappy5 жыл бұрын
    • +Rebecca Sikes I don't think that was the reason Steve put on his old suit at all. I mean, why would it be when it is so obvious that Bucky would more likely recognize his best friend's face? There were two actual, unrelated reasons for it. One is that in order to be Captain America for us, the audience, he needed a Captain America suit, and he had to ditch his modern suit earlier because it could be tracked; now, the scene telling us this was cut, but in any case clearly he had ditched his modern suit for some reason and needed another one. The other reason is symbolic--Steve was sort of returning to his roots and what he was fighting for before all of this SHIELD-infiltrated-by-Hydra crap, namely freedom and truth, and wearing his old suit represents this. Neither reason had anything to do with Bucky, who knew Steve Rogers and loved him as a brother long before Captain America came about.

Meanwhile the two people who he actually is close to - Nat and Fury - can’t really be trusted. It’s a clever way to both forcefully isolate the character emotionally and then make him need to open up to Fury and Nat eventually because they’re all he has.

Basically they are mixing "jokes" with real criticism and it's so poorly done that no one can really tell the difference. Those videos aren't pure comedy, there is real criticism in each of them. The creators are just cowards that use the "immunity" granted by comedy to not be called out on their bullshit. Overall their videos are pointless. There is nothing funny about getting everything wrong about a movie, it's actually annoying. But they say they don't care, because they want to sound edgy and so do all their mindless followers who scream on top of their lungs "it's just for fun, bro" every time someone tries to correct them.

Also, really kudos to cinemawins, I feel like they put in way more effort than cinemasins

  • When you actually step back and look at it, the MCU is based on three trilogies. Thor, Cap and Iron Man. And the Captain America trilogy is just SO amazing and seems to be the primary vessel in which the story moves forward. Iron Man is reactionary and passive, doesn't push the WORLD forward as much. Thor provides the much-needed connection to the cosmic universe but again, barely moves the plot forward. Ragnarok a little more so but still, Cap trilogy is where SHIELD lives and dies, it's why the Avengers even exist in the first place, and it gives Black Widow and Nick Fury a lot of necessary screen time to justify their Avenger status.

  • Fun little fact: the term "Winter Soldier" is a very old saying meaning a man who fights in war not only during summertime (when it's warm and easy to travel to countryside) but during the colder, less forgiving months of the year. Basically a Winter Soldier fights year round and is always ready to defend his country and loved ones. So the title of this movie, as the directors explain in the film's commentary, also applies to Captain America, who doesn't just fight when it's convenient.

    @nslater1388@nslater13887 жыл бұрын
    • I read it was a reference to "The Winter Soldier Investigations" when the military was investigating war crimes committed by US soldiers in Vietnam, itself a reference to the term "Summer Soldier" which was used to mock anyone that only fought for their country when it was convenient for them.

    • Well, I don't get that negativity, there's always a few good things even in horrible movies! The worst part nowadays is that every time people see a movie they dislike, they don't say "meh" or "yeah, it was quite bad", they say "OH MY GOD, THIS IS THE WORST MOVIE I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE !", and then proceed to talk about that movie for months on the Internet

    • ***** Well, exaggeration promotes understanding, but I get what you mean. I feel like expressions like "worst ever" have been watered down, because people use them too much, when it's not appropriate to do so. It's similar to the fact that there's not a figurative definition of the word "literal".

I bow down to Chris Evans for perfectly personifying the character of Captain America. You will be missed. RDJ you too :). Captain America being worthy was truly the best thing in the ENDGAME. Thank you, Chris Evans, RDJ, Russo brothers and other characters for providing us an experience that we will never forget. #chrisevans #captainamerica #TeamCap forever #Thankyouavengers

    • On the other hand, you can imagine neither Evans nor Rodgers insulting someone out of spite (or, for that matter, insulting someone _or_ having spite). It's almost like Evans is the version of Captain America who's a Hollywood actor rather than a comic-book superhero character.

  • My take on why we see Zola in Bucky’s flashback: he was put on ice after he fell of the train and was unconcious while they perfected his metal arm. Once Hydra nestled into SHIELD, it was easy to have him flown to a base where Zola was, so he could finish the brainwashing and have him stored in a Russian base afterwards.

  • After Endgame, the scene between Steve and Peggy breaks your heart in a whole new way. My head canon is that Steve was always her husband, just his identity was kept secret so he could live a normal life, so, "You came back," is her thinking she'd seeing him for the first time after he went back in time. Regardless, I love that Steve loves Peggy even though she's nearing the end of her life, the way Peggy initially fell in love with Steve when he was just a scrawny kid from Brookyln.

I mean, the other movies in phase 1 had their important moments and what have you, but this movie was an unexpected event film that overtook the original Avengers movie in both tension and story.

  • Great set o' wins, as usual. I am so, so, SO happy they did the buddy road trip riff with Steve and Nat instead of trying to do any kind of romantic pairing. They play off each other vastly better this way. The running gag of "what about Liz in Accounting" and such was inspired, and gave us better banter than a lot of the forced-quippiness that is the legacy of writing around Tony Effing Stark for so many movies now.
