  • My beloved Mary, It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you I have received my summons today from the transport company. I am required to leave immediately for the bus station. This is a posting I do not expect I will return from. My dear Mary, I am eternally regretful of the tumultuous situation you must now find yourself in. I have left to you my house and all my possessions, in the hopes you might be able to provide for our dear Jeremiah. Do not weep for me Mary. I implore you to move on from this tragedy, for the pain of my loss should not rule the remainder of your life. This event was in no way caused by any action of yours. The buses must run on time, and I understand the necessity of my sacrifice. I trust that you will find happiness in your life without me. Goodbye Mary, and I wish you the best in years to come. Signed, Edmund Richardson

I'd much rather meander through well-landscaped and winding residential roads or blaze down an efficient straight line going like 65 mph. Anything in between is a traffic _and_ safety nightmare most of the time and should be kept to getting you from one of those extremes to the other in a non-disruptive manner. Ain't nothing more harrowing than walking out of a pleasant neighborhood to immediately sprint across a road that could fit two buses _longways_ just to reach another part of the same damn development.

  • I live in a city where the transport company rules everything. There is one route that this transport company set up that is special. The Bus Route. A five-hour-long ring around the city that you cannot sit, sleep, or do anything else on. You must stand in silence. Those who break this rule are never seen again. But the more times you ride The Bus Route, the more privileges you receive, and the more powerful you are. I am a seventeen-year-old girl who once rode on a malfunctioning bus, giving me -1 rides on The Bus Route. This is my story.

    • I thought it was part of their navigation instinct in a slightly different way-while ants do secrete pheromones for pathfinding (usually for food, but it can also be used if there are multiple colonies in a multi-queen hierarchy or if the colony is migrating to a different area for the sake of resources or to get away from a rival colony), the 'death spiral' comes from them _losing_ the trail. Their instinct is to travel in a circle attempting to find the trail again, but if they can't find it they'll just keep circling. The funny thing is, ants aren't individually smart (or more often, visually apt) enough to repair the road after they find it, so what do they do? Secrete a trail behind them. If the ant finds the trail, great! Now the ants will either travel that little circle and intercept back on the path or just cut across depending. If not, they just keep circling... and circling... and circling... in a feedback loop of pheromones. If you're someone who cares about ants to a significant degree, something as small as leaving a little trail of sugar or breadcrumbs to a nearby march of the same species is likely the best way to get them to where they need to be. They might not immediately jump on the food, so stamping the ground to get them to scatter will hurry that along. Try not to use a liquid to lure them unless they're on loose soil or sand where it absorbs into the ground easily. Snack foods like crackers and chocolates are likely the easiest things you'd have on you to use.

  • I imagine towns are just pit stops, meaning the world population lives in bus-towns. And to travel and visit friends or family who live in a different bus-town you simply request your bus to change lanes so you can make an in-motion transfer. People measure their lives in bus-cycles and mark special occasions based on markers they pass: "My little Tom was born during my second cycle right as we were passing the Terracotta Fox Sactuary, which means he'll be six and a half next week." What a wild prompt this is for a dystopia novel.

So, he went more in the red than a thing that modern operating systems are built on can understand. Edit: Technically, the maximum is 9,223,372,036,854,775,807, or 9,223,372,036,854,775,808 -1, effectively because 0 is treated as a positive. I'm only a student, and by no means an expert.

It looks like a machine language word cannot hold a value greater than 9,223,372,036,854,775,807, but you can chain multiple words together to allow for a larger number. • And one day, Edmund felt a curious sensation: that he could steer his vessel in such a way that it would deviate from within the lines he had become accustomed to in a manner that would make his vessel more or less perpendicular to the defined path that was before him. He did steer his vessel this way. He gasped as the scene before him shifted. The were no taillights from the preceding bus. He saw the vast open space filled with the sillouettes of the side profiles of other buses as they drove left to right and right to left across his field of view. The emotions swelled within him. He hadn't felt emotions of this magnitude since the day he asked his beautiful Mary to be his and the day he thought he would never see her again. Suddenly, he snapped into reality as the bus began bumping up and then down. The metal of his bus clanging and flexing about every axis as he clammored over the edges of the roadway. What a great feeling! "Haha! What is this? How is this even possible!?" he exclaimed aloud to himself since he had no fares onboard. Edmund was beaming. The many other bus drivers looked upon our dear Edmund with combinations of fright and disdain. "What does he think he was doing? It isn't difficult at all to just stay within the lines. We know because we have all done it for generations," they thought as they watched Edmund slowly strolling past from one side of their lane to the other before proceeding onto the adjacent roadway. Again and again Edmund traversed over the lanes rather than with the lanes. Then again. And again. There would be no stopping him now. He felt as though he discovered life itself. The thought that, somehow, he might even return home this very same year filled him with excitement, for he did not think such a thing to be possible. Did the other bus drivers know this? He looked in his mirrors to see if any others had followed his lead. They hadn't. They didn't see his deed as good, much less one worth replicating. "Our jobs are elementary but essential. We drive our route," they all reasoned, unable to fathom for a moment why Edmund would he go and do what he was doing. No mind to how it was even possible. As Edmund traversed more roadways in this newly discovered, perpendicular manner, he began to question why, if he had no passengers, he was even supposed to be on the road at all. He did not know the answer, and even felt a tinge of guilt merely for surmising there might be an answer. "Or worse," he thought. "maybe there is no answer." We must kill Edmund.
