Why do airplanes smell a certain way? Is it the outside air or is it the airplane itself?
I googled your question and below was the answer... As mentioned, the air in an aircraft is stale air, making it one of the most dominant odors that contribute to airplane smell. Of course, the filter and circulation system, itself, adds to that smell, as well. Keep in mind that when the air becomes stale or old, it may have a musty scent.
