Boooooooooooring. Land Cruiser owners are so dull and grey.
That's funny I have a 20 year old Land Rover what's solid axles and traction control on 33s and it takes me everywhere hundreds of miles all the time non-stop constantly
I live in the UK but have spent a lot of time in Southern Africa where most people I know who go seriously off road choose a Toyota on the basis of reliability rather than absolute off-road performance. I have owned three Land Rover Discoveries from new over the last thirty years. The first had a major engine problem after three years. The second ran virtually trouble free for almost twenty years and 200,000 miles, but had terrible paint quality/galvanic corrosion that Land Rover would not address under warranty. My current Discovery 4 has only done 16000 miles, but recently had a complete electronic black out. You would not want that to happen in the middle of the Kalahari. My son's 2018 Discovery Sport had a similar "control system fault" at the same time. Despite these issues, the Discovery is great to drive on and off road in the UK and meets my needs for seating capacity, load carrying, towing and comfort better than the Toyota. It will never be too far from support if/when it breaks down. If I was in Southern Africa or other remote areas I would choose a Toyota every time.
If I could choose which one to have as a press vehicle, it's the Defender hands down. But if I was going to shell out my own money, buy the vehicle, and keep it for 15 years, it's the Land Cruiser. No contest.
Defender for light off road camping and safari Land cruiser for work especially geologist and rural medic
Defender for the mall ride. Landcruiser for anything serious and offroad
Land Cruiser went through tough ways while Defeder driver keep complaining how slow is LC trunk and crwl control.

I shopped both of these trucks. I went with the LC HE. All the trick electronic crap on the Defender will go bad, and once the warranty runs out you are screwed. The LC is just a much better truck overall. I do agree that the tail gate is slow as hell. The cool thing is that you can turn off and open it manually. I did have rock sliders and rear suspension guards put on though.
@Aquatic Ape congrats, you brought a car thats gonna live longer than you

In 10 years the Land rover will need 20000 in repairs and be crushed while the Land cruiser will have another 10 years reliability ahead of it
In 1p years land rover will still be going strong and Toyota in 20 years will not be a brand considering how bad they're cars are now and how bad the value is 🤢🤢
You don’t know much about Defenders. Most since day one are still around and not crushed as you incorrectly asserted. I owned a disco and drove defenders in the army and never saw one break down. You must mix with idiots.
Or b, maintain it well and have no issues.
Over 70% of Land Rover Defenders made are still being driven. That’s the same number as Porsche and a number far higher than Toyota could dream of. Land Rovers will take you into battle. Toyotas take soccer moms to coffee.
Land cruiser all day everyday. I wouldn’t even do a straight swap of my 4runner and the defender. Just not a fan of land rovers for obvious reasons.
Hi guys, love the video. Don't know much about the petrol engine cruiser , but I do have a '15 200 series with the 4.5L Turbo Diesel engine. WOW. I love that thing. You mentioned reliability that that is where the Toyota rules. They just keep going and going and going. In Australia LR are seen as the city vehicle(school run etc.). Great looking vehicle and loads of tech. Very refined. But my cruiser just keeps getting things done. and will still be getting it done in 20, 30 years or more. And the after market is HUGE. Bugger all for the LR's. Again, thanks for the video, good fun, I'll be back.
Nice, very well demonstrated! And some laughter along with the review!
You missed a trick! At 13:40, if you lower, yes, LOWER the suspension, it will touch the rock and pop it into “extended” mode. This is more than an inch higher than “offroad” height that you were in. Would have then been able to clear that obstacle. Oh, and while it’s in extended mode you can press the raise suspension button with a foot on the brake and it goes into “hyper extension” mode which adds a ton more clearance. But im not a fan of that setting as there is no longer any give for ride comfort. But it’s cool to see it standing on stilts!
I've done this quite a few times, espectially on deep rutted tracks where the engine and trans trays are starting to drag and loose traction.
@@brianfeely902 I've been doing it lately too. Wow, it stands up high! I put a ream of A4 paper standing up vertically in my driveway and drove clean over it! That's in excess of 300mm! What I'm trying to ascertain now, is what are the conditions that make it automatically go back down again...

You pay 81k for an LR and out the dealers is worth 30k. The LC 20yrs later is worth 45k
What's the difference?
Which is why the last of the old Defenders actually cost more now (10 years old) than they did at the dealer. Plastic Toyota junk? Can’t give them away.
You should see the Carfax on my former 2015 LR4 ....about an inch thick. Spent a total of 3.5 months in total at the dealer in the 3 and a half years I had it. No feeling like doing 75 on the highway and having the suspension go out. Or hitting the gas and it lurching backwards. My 2007 LR3. Year 5 and 6 put about 4500 into it to keep it running post warranty. 2007 RR Sport. Took about 25K miles in constant visits to fix everything. Then it was pretty good to 140K. All bought new to take advantage of Section 179. My 2012 Range Rover was actually perfect. No issues. Now for my Toyotas. 2000 4Runner Limited bought new. Bought an extended warranty. Worst waste of money cause I never used it. 75K miles and only warranty repair was a broken arm rest. Traded in with original brakes. Bought a used 2000 Land Cruiser in 2004 with 67K. Came with new tires and brakes. Traded in at 150K on same tires and brakes. Nothing broke but the tape deck (which I don't own any tapes). Worst decision to get rid of that car. Someone is probably still driving that car..... Oh yeah. The big Rovers love new brakes and tires every 25K miles. I could write a whole post on all the loaners that would break.Them Rovers sure are pretty though :) while I do see some high mileage ones they seem to require a lot of work, Toyotas do that with little more than fluid changes and normal wear items. Actually great friends with my Land Rover mechanic now. He tells me all mechanics at his dealership drive Toyotas, Subarus, and Jeeps.
I'm looking forward to Kyle reviewing the Rivian R1S off-road.
Land Cruiser owners buy them to keep for a long time. It's beauty is longevity and build quality. I've seen the new defender in person and though it's cool it's just not built to the same standard. If you don't keep cars for very long go for it.

The fact that one was willing to risk a Land Cruiser, being a press vehicle, for more dangerous lines and tracks while the other one bothered to do so shows the trust everyone has in a Land Cruiser. You are not a UN-designated All Terrain Vehicle of choice by mistake or pure luck!
I don't wanna go and die there, so I chose land cruiser for going to and coming from a place.
Those are not the optional tires on the Defender those are DuraTracs. S is the base trim not SE. You wiggle the rear door back and forth a tiny bit to make it hold in any position; not a vehicle issue just a reviewer that doesn’t know the details of the car his reviewing.

Actually they are an option but not on the site, you have to ask your dealer to put them on if you want then. At least that's the case in the UK.
17:55 I beg to differ: @TFLoffroad couldn’t go up here because they had a Lexus GX460 press vehicle and the approach angle towards the 18:50 mark was not good, especially at the highest setting on the Lexus’ air suspension. So even for beginner, always make sure to travel slowly and always check if you are going to clear an obstacle.
Cool, but neither of them have as much clearance as my '94 Disco with a 1 1/2" lift, here in Jamaica. Looking to replace it with a used vehicle, and reliability is big concern. Leaning toward a Land Cruiser.

The Landy I think goes into super extended mode for more hight over those rocks.
Exactly
Toyota is the Best, hands down!!
$91,000?!!! We can’t get the 200 series land cruiser in the UK anymore but at least when it was last sold we got adjustable height suspension, locking diffs, etc etc as standard! I thought it would be cheaper than the defender, especially when you compare the rather tacky interior and how many buttons that model was missing inside! Big respect for it though, just not sure Toyota are really getting it right with pricing and spec...
Can you share the model and pricing info for the Defender?
He did.
Do you get the V8 bi-turbo diesel in the US as this is the first petrol model I've seen
Which is better diesel or patrol?
