Swiatek has really turned into a fabulous player. Halep hung in there and major props to her. But Iga is just too good right now. And Halep’s 2nd serve is target practice for her.
What is the most impressive about Iga is how clutch she gets at most important points of the match. Whole 1st set was close and I'd say Halep was even a little bit better, but Iga played the most important points better and she ended up winning that set.
@@Kordass126 Agree. After winning RG, she did poorly in ths GS despite winning in Adelaide and Rome I think. She was playing not aggressive enough like she would not want to hurt her opponent or hurt herself. Now she is aggressive and she fights harder. Hope she keeps developing and confirms all the talent she showed.

Feel bad for my girl Halep but have to give it to Swiatek she was definitely rocking it out on the court.....Coming back from that first set tie break was the turning point and Halep's second serve stopped all her momentum so many times.
I'm so happy for Iga, but I also have tons of respect for Simona. It was a good fight.

Agreed. Natural surfaces help Halep with her underwhelming second service; on hardcourts she always struggles more. It's quite remarkable how successful she has been on hardcourts despite this.

Have been a die-hard fan of Iga since she made her presence felt in RG2020. Followed her ups and downs and so glad she changed coach and makes good. All those who said she's a one-slam wonder can now eat their words!

@@barbarakostiuk2590 Moja wypowiedź odnosiła się do zmiany trenera🙂. Nie przepadam za określeniami typu najlepsza/y, bo to jest dość względne pojęcie. Wolałbym w odniesieniu do Igi użyć pojęcia, że jest w gronie najlepszych zawodniczek w tym czasie, w tourze. Co nie oznacza, że nie może być najlepsza, biorąc np. za wskaźnik bycie numerem 1 rankingu. Jest na dobrej ku temu drodze. Jest to trudne zadanie, ale jak to powiedział jej były trener, Sierzputowski, jeszcze trudniej utrzymać się na szczycie zestawienia. Ja bardzo lubię grę Igi, zwłaszcza kiedy w tym sezonie tak agresywnie poczyna sobie na korcie i nie traci pewności siebie, co uwidaczniało się w poprzednim sezonie jej dużymi wahaniami nastroju. Mecz z Sakkari będzie mega trudny, patrząc jak obecnie gra Greczynka i jak odprawiła Hiszpankę w półfinale. Ale wierzę, że trener przygotuje dobry plan na ten mecz. A reszta będzie w rękach Igi. Jazda, Iga, jazda!!!

In many sports they say it's about the will to win. You can definitely see, that Swiatek wanted it more. She is not only a great player. She is also mentally very very good. I think she is only one or two steps away from dominating the WTA.
Iga is my bet for the future , for sure , and that future is coming very soon.
Iga had to fight with Barty and Kontaveit to determine who actually dominated the WTA in the long run.

@@konradschmidt3919 Maybe yes, maybe not ... Kontaveit has already lost at the beginning of the tournament in Indian wells and also in Miami. After Barty’s retirement the competition was more open in the race in dominating the world number one rankings. Perhaps the advantage is now more towards Swiatek’s ribs.

Iga Swiatek is a class player. Tremendous power in her ground strokes. She deserved the win.
Swiatek improved so much. Her backhand is now immaculate, as well as her mental strength. I have to admit that I am still not a fan of her forehand technique, but it is very effective. Congratulations to Iga and good luck against Sakkari!

They showed her stats from that QF against Sabalenka. Her average forehand speed was 5 km higher than average speed of the whole ATP Tour in 2021

Halep had been playing very well in this tournament, so I figured this would be very close. I was wondering if Iga would have the discipline to fight through a tough challenge, and she certainly did. These are the kind of hard-fought matches champions win. That first set tiebreaker comeback (from 3 - 5 and 4 - 6!) was pretty amazing. Great confidence boost for Iga!
I really hoped Halep would win, she has lovely game ,one minute she looks like she's struggling to retun the ball,next she now in offensive mode. Nonetheless Iga has just been on fire 🔥. Great match

Very happy to see the progress Swiatek has made with her game in the last year. Young age, but some of the best footwork and smarts playing for position to set up the winning shot. Fine personality, humble, photogenic - another WTA sponsor's dream. I plan on watching more of her matches, same with Ash Barty. And Paula Badosa, Maria Sakkari and vet Halep also had a fine tournament.

I’m not sure if Simona is at her full level after being injured but she still looked pretty good. I can’t think of two many twenty year olds of recent years who have Iga’s abilities.
I just watched Leyla Fernandez highlights and she seems pretty good too. Obviously I hope the best for Iga but she will have a couple of youngsters breathing down her neck. The future of WTA looks pretty bright at the moment
Dotrzymałem do 2 w nocy i nie usnąłem w trakcie meczu :) Pojedynek bardzo fajny i dynamiczny z fikołkami Igi (dobrze, że się jej nic nie stało) i poszkodowanymi rakietami Simony.
Ja przed ostatnim secie poszedłem do toalety, jak wróciłem to gratulowały sobie przy siatce 😁a ja myśle "co się właśnie stało?"

It was an exciting match and a really good play by both. Iga Świątek played better in the key moments (vide tiebreak) and deservedly won. Her weak side was service: 58,1 % of “first serve in” is not a great result. She will face now M. Sakkari in the match for … the 2nd spot in the WTA ranking (just after A. Barty); whoever wins will take that place, the loser will be 3rd! In the previous tournament in the game against Maria (semis in Doha) Świątek served at 75,8 % rate and won. She needs to be that effective again to win this final. Have a good luck Iga!

An in-form attacker vs an in-form defender. These matches rarely disappoint.
This match did not disappoint . Very entertaining and engaging from both players. Halep played well, but Swiatek was better in the key points of the match. Wich is impresive cuz Halep had a good game plan ...if she had been a little bit calmer in the tie break maybe we would have had a different match. ..Halep kept fighting well, but Iga kept her composure very well. Congrats. The next match btw Sakkari or Badosa is gonna be 🔥. Lets go !
I think the match would have gone the distance if Halep hadn't gotten injured. Swiatek played well on the most important points of the match, especially in the 1st set tiebreaker, but otherwise looked a bit flat, particularly on her serve.

Iga is the second Polish No.1 reaching the final after the predecessor, Radwonska. Although getting a bit of struggles in this match, she still managed to win. I hope Iga will get all she has and prepare for her ultimate rival, Sakkari. Gods bless this young talented g teen to make her steps continuous.

It's sad to see Halep outside of the top 20, she's had a time tough with injuries but talent-wise she belongs in the top 5. Great to see Swiatek play so well though, she's so consistent for someone so young
She’s ranked 19th now. She will get back into the Top 10, no doubt. Top 5, that’s less sure.
Halep is still competitive, hope she will get into top 10 this year.
@@canoayg I was in Philippe Chatrier to watch Halep win her first grand slam in 2018. A really charming person and a fierce competitor, i hope she can rediscover her best form.

both played very well, a great match worthy of a semi-final. And Iga is just getting better and better, esp mentally with winning the most important points.
She has a good role model in Rafa and so she's learning to never give up.
Her serve is finally improving, and that helps a lot on fast courts, though it can be far more better, specially the second serve.

Swiatek played exceptionally well, but won at the limit, Halep was always in the lead, 5-4 and followed in the service, 6-4 in the taibreak (first set), and 4-2 in the second set. Anyway, congratulations on a beautiful match.
What a game 🔥 Shame that Simona's muscle injury impeded her in the 2nd set. It would've been great to have a 3rd set from the girls. Iga looks so promising for a grand slam this year. I hope she does win 1. At the same time I'm gutted for Simona who has to suffer yet another muscle tear. I just hope she is back to her best before Roland garros.

This match truly represents the differences in the era these women have come up in. Halep is one of the greatest in the era of the counter-punchers in the past decade, but that era is just about over now. Iga represents one of the best of the power players that are at the top of the game currently.
Don't finish the era so quickly. Iga could have lost this match quite easily.
@@rafarequeni822 Yea, she definitely could've lost it, but based on the top 10 or even the top 20, that counter-punchers era is decisively in the past. Doesn't mean great players like Halep won't win anything else.
@@RichTake Being a counterpuncher depends more on your physic than anything else. If you're not very tall and strong, you must use your opponents strength against them, so you become a counterpuncher - wether you like that playstyle or not. Everybody would love serving at 200km/h, but if you can't, you can't. There will always be counterpunchers unless tennis becomes like basketball, expelling young promises out of the tennis schools once they realize they're not going to be tall enough.
@@rafarequeni822 What argument are you trying to make here? I never said that there won't ever be counter-punchers. All my statement has been is that the era of counter-punchers at the top of the game has ended. It's all cyclical so it'll likely happen again in the future. Gone are the days where there was Halep, Kerber, Svitolina, Radwanska and Wozniacki as top players. That's it.
@@RichTake Oh, well, I don't disagree that certainly Kerber, Svitolina and Halep are playing their last years on the tour - Wozniacki already retired. But I'm not that sure that counter-punchers won't dominate the next years. Leylah Fernandez or Maria Camila Osorio could qualify as such, for example.
