Ladies & gents hope you’re well.
So over the years I’ve tried various screen setups, from a single monitor, to dual monitors, to a TV for a monitor, and right now I’m using a single 34 inch ultrawide monitor.
So today we’re gonna compare a dual monitor setup to a single ultrawide and this will hopefully help you to figure out what’s the best choice for you. Comment down below what monitor or monitors you’re using.
Thank you guys so much watching as always, if you enjoyed the video please don’t forget to smash like, subscribe if you haven’t already and I’ll see you next time.

  • I’ve had ultra wides and dual monitor setups. It depends what you want to do. I don’t game and use my computer for productivity which is why I prefer dual 32 inch 4k monitor setup. It provides more real estate for all my applications and spreadsheets without having them to stack on top each other.

  • In case you are into coding, having two screens also comes with the benefit that you could turn one by 90 degrees. Which is convenient to display more limes of code vertically. Or also in case you extensively use the command line.

    • What's your thoughts on the ultrawide?

      @sunset6958@sunset69582 жыл бұрын
    • @@sunset6958 I personally prefer a three screen setup with one screen turned by 90 degrees. For the reasons given my comment. Maybe it could also be a widescreen and a second turned one. But finally for me it totally boils down to personal preference and what you use the screen for. For video editing or if you use a daw for example I guess the wide screen might be the better solution.

    • I like my 21:9 for design with a second 16:9 (16:10 preferably) monitor for testing how it looks to most. I dont code too much, but I guess I could make it vertical for when I do, I never thought of that, tha ks for mentioning it. I just love the horizontal real estate for design, or video editing. I can display so many more tools easier. They always got in the way.

  • Very nice video & video quality! While looking around for an ultrawide that does all the things I want it to, I came to the conclusion that that doesn't exist yet... So I am now split between a dual 16:9 setup that does have all the specs I want or waiting for an ultrawide to come to market. Although not being able to buy a graphics card upgrade at the moment is making the choice easy since my current card wouldn't run smoothly on 1440p anyway...

  • I have always used dual monitors (in the beginning it was only the Laptop till I move out). I just recently change my second monitor into a curved one (24 zoll) after my main monitor broke years ago, I changed it to a 28-30 Zoll monitor. Two curved monitor just looks nice in terms of aesthetic. I could go for the same size but I wanted to save up a little bit. It was quite affordable for a curved monitor with a decent size. Usually, I game on the main monitor in full screen. The second monitor it kinda depends watching video or chatting, if not gaming. My graphic tablet is my third screen. Thanks to the setting, it's also perfect for reading mangas.

  • For me personally I run an UW and a normal 16:9 monitor, because especially in slower games i love to have some show or youtube video on, on the side. Which means LOADS of screenspace, but also more space taken by monitors. But honestly that seems to be the best setup, because you can play on the 16:9 in games that are better fitted for it and still can simultaneously watch shows

  • Great review. I just upgraded my 34 21:9 inch to a 38 inch 21:10 monitor which is on an arm. The extra height on the 38 helps. I also have a tilted 24 inch monitor at around 45 degrees right under my 38 inch monitor. Not the greatest since space is limit but it works since I made sure to get a deep desk 36 inches deep and 52 inches wide.

    • Nice, I really wanted a 38 inch version, but LG's 34 GP83A was already expensive, despite the sale I got it on ($800 Cdn). My next purchase in a few years will def be 38. By then I'm sure HDR will be improved and local dimming will be a regular thing on most monitors. IPS is still tje way to go, but hopefully contrast ratios can be improved, or a new panel will emerge. Gaming/response is incredible on it, but movies are pretty meh.

Also very handy for keeping tabs on discord, wiki's, random youtube, chatting with friends, etc. Even if there was an ultrawide that fit all my requirements, I think I would only be convinced to switch it is was something nuts like 4k, 144hz, oled, and just blew all other experiences out of the water.

  • I've been looking into ultrawides for about 2 yrs now. I've been using dual monitors for about 15yrs. The advent of curved ultrawides got me interested. But... I've been waiting on certain things to happen. 1) Gsync. I like it or freesync. But the physical unit drove costs up. Luckily Gsync on certain models no longer requires the unit to reap most of the benefits. 2) Better panel tech and improvement. We have got that over the years but I'm still waiting on some more innovation with things like OLED and for costs to drop. 3) Cost. I've had 0 issue with spending $500 to 800 on 1440p Gsync unit monitors but I'm not interested in paying much more than double for a single ultra wide especially with the added costs of the newer tech despite it no longer having the physical Gsync unit anymore. 4) Screen splitting. There are tons of software options now. And you can even run monitors as 2 separate ones with another cable if the monitor supports it. But it's a curved display. I'd want to be able (at least in a fair bit of games) to have the game playing in the center with 16:9 and have 2 smaller vertical ones flanking it. You can do this but I also want the ability to Fullscreen it. It seems like some software will be able to do this shortly. Funny thing is when all this stuff happens and I finally get an ultra (or super ultra) wide, I'll still probably end up using on of my current monitors as a true second monitor anyway.... I'm too used to it. But I'll probably just use it in portrait mode.

  • I have a 34" LG 1440p monitor as my main, and a 27" DELL 1440p as the secondary (having the same vertical resolution on both is important). They are also physically the same vertical size so it's not visually jarring. I use them for work and gaming. Both equally for the former, and the Dell as a secondary screen for Discord, Web etc when playing games on the LG. I have a notion of changing to the 49" Samsung Odyssey, but I actually think that I'd miss the secondary display so would probably try and keep it in place somehow

  • I've just recently sold off my old 21:9 monitor in which I bought back in 2017 coming from my old Dell 30" 16:10 monitor from 2010 maybe. Specs were fairly good, and maybe even the best you could get at that time with up to 100Hz refresh, decent blacks etc. What I never got used to was when 21:9 games stretched the view to fit the screen like you showed in your video, seems that at that point you just as well could have had a 16:9 monitor. While my display were fairly good I still had some uniformity problems which is fairly common for curved UW monitors. And coming from an excellent monitor like the Dell with truly good colour accuracy for the time, I really did not like the uniformity problems and the lesser colour accuracy, combined with the small vertical space. I have now gone and bought a 32" 16:9 monitor, will most likely never ever go back to UW again, love the colour accuracy, the uniformity, the non curved screen, great black levels and the higher vertical space. I use this as my main monitor, and a 27" monitor for extra content, even considering try to use my really old Dell 30" as screen number 2.

  • As an artist/coder/designer I would be lost without my dual 16:10 IPS screens. I can run Visual Studio on monitor1 and I can run Photoshop on monitor 2 with my Wacom A5 tablet mapped to monitor 2 as well. That means my tablet still matches the aspect ratio of a single monitor, which avoids inconsistent X, Y scaling. When I used to mod games like GTAV, I would run the game and Visual Studio on monitor 1, leaving monitor 2 for browser, reference docs, 3DS Max or Photoshop... or a combination of those 4. I also use edge-snap a lot, so it's nice having 4 edges to snap things to. I started using dual-screens in the 90's and I'm happy to stay with that setup. If my PC was a pure gaming machine, then I would probably have an ultrawide (or triple screen) but it has always been a development PC first and foremost.

  • To everyone, just be aware that if you move from Curve monitor to Flat monitor, you will face one issue. Edges of flat screen will feel away while the center would seem bulging. It will feel as convex lens. Really annoying. And might feel weird and have strange feelings looking at the monitor. If you plan to have curved at work and at home then it might be ok. but moving back and forth from curve to flat might cause eye strain and feel strange. I have 34 inch curved and I wish I could go back to flat. And at 34 inch size curve is not worth it. It might be useful when you go ultrawide >38 inch and above. Otherwise say away from curve. And curve is going to cost more than flat in most cases.

  • I progressed from 2 x 24" 1080 dual setup to an ultrawide 34" 1440P + 15.6" 1080 laptop screen setup for work. I'm a 'sometime' gamer. My experience is if you're into gaming 2 x 1080p monitors might be the way go. Ultrawide 1440P requires a powerful/expensive GPU which I'm not prepared to buy. Lots of older games that I still like e.g. Crysis--don't do 1440p. I've tried 1080p gaming (NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1650) on the ultrawide. The visible desktop bordering the 1080p gaming window makes for an ok but not as immersive as I'd like it to be gaming experience. But I bought an ultrawide for work reasons so, that's ok.

  • Why not both? 🤷‍♂️ I work as a software developer and I have a 38" ultra wide monitor as my primary monitor and then a 34" ultra wide on top with a monitor arm. I also have my 16" MacBook screen on the side. The things I'm actively working with are always on the primary monitor. On the top monitor I can have a video, some documentation or todo-lists. On the laptop screen I have Slack. For me that works very well and I really like the screen real estate.

What is my benchmark whether i need another monitor or not? how many alt tab per minute.
