One tip: wait about 5 seconds after acknowledging a frequency change before changing over. That way if you get the frequency wrong in the readback, ATC has time to catch it before you leave the frequency. Great video.

Driving thru Chicago traffic to a cold, damp airport then breaking thru the clouds to bright sunny warm blue skies, crappy weather and gridlock below you. Man and machine all alone, enjoying a bit of heaven....priceless!!

I've been a passenger through O'Hare before and I was awed by the size of this airport. I remember being amazed that it took 30+ minutes just to taxi back to the gate after touch down. This place is HUGE!

There's absolutely no room for error in this man's/woman's game. It's very clear that this isn't for a novice flyer, following the ATC chatter, remembering all the callouts and on top of operating your machine is not an undertaking for the easily confused. Fantastic job.
As an FA out of chicago it’s nice seeing firsthand how ridiculously busy traffic is at ord. I have to explain this to passengers all the time when they ask what took so long to take off. ORD is so common to have a 20-30m taxi time.
Note: He gets to the takeoff runway at about 18:15.

I totally agree. I am a pilot and sometimes wonder what the heck some of the pilots and controllers are saying. They talk fast, lazy talk.
Controller: "jet=fast, go faster" Vision Jet Pilot: "Unable" Controller: "fine"

Depends, if the plane is parked for months, best way to warm up the engine is taxiing. You don't want the engine to blow on you after takeoff especially on a cold start and putting on max thrust. But surely it does take a lot of fuel. And fuel isn't cheap.
Basement Haunter idling uses the least amount of fuel, they’re prob taxing about 10 or 15% as supposed to the 100% and then 80% when flying. Also standing still drains maybe a couple gallons.
I absolutely love the Vision. Phenomenal aircraft. Now if only it was more affordable!

@Mike X Nope, you wouldn't wanna put the load on a Cold engine (Engine which was off for a long period of time) directly to the max thurst for the take off, taxing is great way to warm up the engine and check if the fuel valves and various system s are fine. You don't wanna be 100 feet off the ground and your engine goes off because there was a clog in the fuel line.
Idling always uses far less fuel, plus it has the added benefit of warming up the engine…
This was just beautiful in every imagination of perfection. So quiet I had to max out the audio to hear the engines purr, than only heard the wind. Most beautiful. Thanks, let’s see more

you should see the landing space its like one plane every 45 seconds or so and if you look up in the air you see them staggered 2.5 miles behind each other in a line as far as you can see

Pretty cool seeing the interior of one, very modern. They do test flights from knoxville to pigeon forge airport all the time (Where I work). These little jets are very loud for their size!
As an aircraft mechanic at O'Hare, I do a lot of taxiing around, bringing airplanes from the maintenance ramp to the gate and vice versa. Communication with ground can be very intimidating during peak pushback/arrival time. Nice radio work by the way.

Jerry, I'm gonna be going to A&P school in a few months. I have a question. When you get your cert, are you permitted to inspect aircraft like one would inspect a car? Does it work that way, on top of more commonplace maintenance checks?
@@davecrupel2817 I guess it depends on what type of inspections the aircraft is going through. For GA stuff, if you are performing annual inspections, you are required to have an inspection authorization certification from the FAA. You will not be permitted to earn that endorsement until you have been an A&P for at least 3 years. If you go the route of regional airlines and get into a hangar, every task you complete will have to be looked at and signed off by an inspector. There are also specific tasks that are called RII (Required Inspection Items) that require a mechanic that is RII qualified. Getting RII qualified is up to the company that hires you. If they feel comfortable with your ability, they will send you to RII class and you will be able inspect work being performed (watching fasteners being torqued, ensuring cotter pins and lockwire are properly installed and making sure that the task has been performed in accordance with the Aircraft Maintenance Manual and the company's General Maintenance Manual). To make a long story short, inspections will be part of your daily life as an A&P.
That must look so funny from the tower, seeing all these huge airliners and suddenly here comes this little one engine jet mixed in among the big boys. LOL I can imagine the tower controller saying to his buddy "OMG, I think a 777 lost his engine on the taxi way" and his buddy responds "No, dumbass that's a Cirrus jet". LOL
I do it routinely in a C208. ORD is probably the easiest airport to get in and out of as long as you know what to do. Driving into ORD, that's a different story.

@@tc0330 I know small aircraft fly in to O'Hare, I was just joking. I know about the drive to O'Hare, because I worked as a driver for American Taxi inc from 2005 till 2009 while going through flight training and I had to drive back and forth to O'Hare at least 4 times a day, so I experienced what driving is like going to and from O'Hare. I am surprised I didn't lose my marbles driving to and from O'Hare. Before I drove a cab I always laughed when someone said that cab drivers job must be hard and I would always laugh and say they have a very easy job, but after driving a cab for 4 years I have huge respect for the drivers that have been doing it for 20 or 30 years and I understood why some cab drivers drive like crazy, because you wouldn't make any money if you drove like a 90 year old lady. To drive a cab around Chicago you have to have nerves of steel, which I do not have, but I made it for 4 years.

Great video. I work at ORD and taxi planes for multiple airlines. It's fun to watch this video and recognize the majority of the ATC voices and taxi routes.
A very informative / nearly educating video about how "complex" it may be to set off into the skies at a large airport. The Vision is surprisingly quiet (indoor). Very well done, indeed !

Enjoyable watch man, I kinda like how aircraft dash's are looking a bit more like a motor vehicle, its aesthetically more relaxing although by no means should be viewed as an easy entry to flight!
I love flying (as a pax) in and out of ORD on small planes. It's totally goofy lining up behind giant behemoths and using like 1/4 of the runway to take off and land.
It's great you put the map and route when ATC speaks it helps so much to understand what's going on
I worked on "the jet" program up until first flight. Had a great time on that project.
Flew in my younger days with my father who was a private pilot. Owned several Cessna's which I still track the reg numbers to see where they are today. Watching your videos and the multitasking and skills needed for flying jets is many many levels above what I remember in the cockpit. One non aviation comment, the air vents in that Cirrus on the firewall are identical to the ones found in an F-150 lol.
The Garmin flight deck in the SF50s is a great example of a glass cockpit for a corporate jet done right. I love this thing, even if I only get to fly the XP11 default one. Also, damn, that taxi. Thank god I fly out of a delta for my flight training.

They are both military, guy on right has some kind of service ring, and the way he talks to the left seat hey may have been higher rank when they or he was in.
Right seat passenger would make me crazy, he can't stop diddling the knobs. He is very uncomfortable not being in control.

i air taxied in my robi 44 at an int airport once... lol. that was scary. i was a student. there were times i was WAY too close to jets..
I hangar at an Intl airport and it gets busy... 737...737...737....me in an RV-7. I constantly ask for an early left or right turn on departure, because I can feel the big fellas breathing down my neck😲

What an awesome insight into the particulars of flying. You look at movies and video games and they always show the flying part and skimp over the getting to the flying part. Ive only flown once in my life and it was awesome but i couldnt help to think of the amry of people behind the scenes keeping everything safe and on point. I always wanted to be a pilot but im not sure i have what it takes to do or learn the mountain of stuff that surrounds the actual flying.
I use X-Plane with extensions that plug you into live training ATC to allow pilots and ATC to practice. Granted it’s really more of a sim than a “game” proper, but it’s pretty incredible how realistic one can make things these days.

Hey Max, the visually-interesting long ORD taxi is welcomed. We can't get to the runway without it. Not many GA crews get to taxi O'Hare. I enjoyed it. When I taxiied our club's SR20 at JFK, it was a cool and different experience. No prob, bro.

excellent! I watched, it was great to listen in... Im studying and going to get back in the cockpit after about 17 years! I got my CFI multi and CFII but never worked as a pilot. I started flightschool a week before 9/11 and the jobs were gone when I had my ratings 7 mo later. Your video is great flying and great for listening to and practicing comms! Blue skies!
