Super Bowl XLII is widely regarded as one of greatest upsets in NFL history. The Patriots set numerous offensive records while going undefeated throughout the season, whereas the Giants were 10-6 and looked like a team marked with inconsistency. However, the Giants elite pass rush and uncanny play from quarterback Eli Manning would prove to be enough to defeat the Patriots in one of the most memorable Super Bowls of all time.

My Uncle was murdered on December 5th 2007, he was such a huge Giants fan that we buried him with his Eli Jersey in his casket. I'll always remember my Grandmother saying a few days later that she felt the Giants were gonna make it to the super bowl and win because they had an angel with them. I'm not a Giants fan (SKOL Vikings!) But on this night it was one of the greatest sports moments in my life and I'll always be thankful to this team for the joy they brought my family during our hard time.

@@assassinbrcp6206 One of the most memorable for sure. Probably the one I'll remember for a long time. All the build-up, all the focus on the Patriots trying to complete the 'perfect' 19-0 season, the Giants being huge underdogs although I had a feeling they could at least make things interesting perhaps and not get run over like some 'experts' were predicting. It was a low-scoring defensive struggle but they saved the best for last. The back-n'-forth momentum in the 4th quarter, the Patriots almost looking like they HAD completed the season of perfection, but then the miraculous catch by Tyree that kept their final drive intact, & then the Giants' D making the final stop to complete the upset. To this DAY I still get goosebumps watching these replays again.

Mets - Jets - Knicks - Nets I think he’s saying respect that the Giants organization chose to wear them (since the Pats didn’t and he was a rival player so they completely *chose* to wear it)
Every team wore them in Week 13, after that it was optional
Honestly this is probably one of the best defensive showing in a game in nfl history by the giants. Holding arguably the greatest offense of all time and undefeated team to just 14 points on the biggest game is truly amazing.
Their defense carried them that entire season.
@@literallyshaking8019 well clearly nobody could stop the Patriots offense that year because 2 people set touchdown season records (Brady Passing and Moss Receiving) so for the Giants to hold them to only 2 tds is amazing, especially since they gave up like 30 something points in their week 17 game vs the Patriots that same season. Steve Spagnolo came out with an amazing gameplan and clearly it worked.
Greatest Super Bowl of all time
The Pats got Gronk and really developed all those screens and short passes in response to this game. It's crazy to see the Pats struggle to come up with something after years of getting used to seeing them just chip away at defenses.
I think broncos defense in sb 50 and seahawks in 48 probably rank above this one, especially considering the turnovers they generated

@Black Hole yeah they were, have u seen the comment Brady made at media day? Plaxico made a prediction of Giants 23-17. When Brady was asked about it, he laughed and said," we're only gonna score 17 points, Ok" (laughs some more). At least as it pertains to Brady's comments pre-game humble pie was served. Not only did they lose, but he didn't even get to 17 points, he only got 14. Plus, I'm sure any team that has gone undefeated for that long can only be humble for so long before arrogance kicks in.
@Black Hole yeah I was 5 when this game happened, but I had already heard about the comment Brady made in some 2007 giants documentary, but yeah this game did change them mentally for the better. No level of arrogance was going to be allowed again in their team.

Eli was the definitive underdog of the century. You’ll probably never see another one of his kind in your lifetime. To beat 3 playoff contenders, then go on to beat 18-0 Patriots?? Unreal. Then do it again 4 years later. Wow. For those losers to BENCH Eli in 2016 how dare they...the giants deserve bad luck for a decade after that rude ass ungrateful move. And I guarantee you McAdoo only benched him because he was a former Packer himself. Loser.
you mean the GIANTS were the underdog of the century. not just eli.
People ragged on Eli his whole career sadly, yet for pretty much the entire time as the starting QB for the Giants, he STILL always gave them the best chance to win games. Sure, later in his career he struggled, but yet you still expected him to lead the team just because of his previous successes. And NOBODY can take away those SB rings or the SB MVPs from Eli. Their defense does get a lot of credit & rightfully so, but Eli did his part too. Like I said, people rag on Eli so much....but he has 2 SB rings no matter what anyone says.
Dont forget he took out Farve in 2007, and then Rodgers in 2011. 2 out of 3 against Greenbay is good. I wasnt mad they giants beat us packers when they beat the patriots twice.

A lot of Patriots fans boast 18-1 is a great season. However, there's one thing they forgot. Two other teams went 18-1 before the 2007 New England Patriots in the 1984 San Francisco 49ers and the 1985 Chicago Bears. Difference is, those two Super Bowl teams won their Super Bowls to go along with their 18-1 season while the 2007 Pats came up short.

@@speranzayaya no kidding.... glad I'm not the only one to catch that...
@@brucemorton7787 Although everything may have played out differently if coaches saw a different time on the clock in real time, in theory, it didn't really effect the game. There essentially was just an additional 6-7 seconds on the clock that should not have been, all stemming from the play ran at 1:28 when Carey made the ready for play signal and the clock didn't start. They were never able to get back where the needed to be after that. However, all it really caused was the Giants having to come back on the field to take their final knee because the clock still showed two seconds
This is the game where the Patriots put the Miami Dolphins undefeated talk to rest. After this game majority of those Dolphins stopped celebrating including Coach Shula, that they were the only undefeated team. Just a couple still celebrate, those few just can’t face the truth. The Patriots went on still to reach the point of 18-0 passing the Dolphins 17-0. The Patriots had to play 2 more games than the Dolphins did and still passed them. The Patriots are now the only NFL team to reach a 18-0 record. Pats lost the Super Bowl but it took a miracle catch to finally beat them and for Patriot Nation that’s fine. That it took a miracle to beat them. “ it is what it is” The Patriots would go one to 6 more Super Bowls and winning 3 of them. Cementing the NFLs only 20yr DYNASTY. Most dynasty’s during the SB ERA last just about 5yrs. The Patriots from 2001 to 2019 went to 9 Super Bowls and winning 6 of them. The averages going to a SB every other year.

Imagine if the patriots won this game against the giants smh I guess it wasn’t meant to happen
Talk about a team that had tons of grit. The 07 Giants are easily one of the grittiest teams to ever win a Super Bowl. Just the path to here for them was epic: They got into the playoffs via the Wild Card because of their 10-6 record, they had to play the Bucs in Tampa for the WC, then they had to face the Cowboys in Dallas in the divisional round to advance, then they had to play the Packers in Green Bay for the NFC Championship game, in what turned into the second coldest NFL game in history (the 1967 ‘Ice Bowl’ was colder) that went into overtime, mind you! And they still weren’t done. Then they had to face that juggernaut 18-0 Patriots team in the Super Bowl. And they beat them! This game alone is why Eli Manning, Michael Strahan, and David Tyree should be a lock for the Hall Of Fame.

Bradys career is truly indescribable. The sequence of events that had to take place for him to lose this might rival lottery odds. The barely first down on 4th by Jacobs, the missed interceptin by Samuel. The near sack of Eli a couple times on the Tyree catch then the Tyree catch itself, then the 3rd and 11 to smith, then the TD by Plaxico, then stopping Brady. Almost a decade later, Brady made this Giants sequence of events look probable compared to the 28-3 comeback against Atlanta in which literally like fifteen 50/50 plays in a row had to fall the Pats way for them to win. Its like Brady loses sb he is supposed to win and wins the ones he is suposed to lose. What a career
How about the sequence of events that put him in a position to win??? Giants driving for another score in the first half, Eli throws a pass right to Smith, it bounces off his hands and winds up in Harrisons hands?? Took a minimum of 3 points off the board for the Giants. Then after the Giant D stops the Pats with Giants leading 10-7 Eli has Plaxico wide open with not a Pat within 10 yards and overthrows him? Took time and a first down off the board and maybe another score? Finally Giants force a punt, then stupidly don't get all their players off the field and resulting penalty gives the ball back to the Pats? Both teams got breaks that day, Pat fans just want everyone to focus on the ones that went Giants way. Giants completely outplayed the Pats that day, that's why they won.
@@TWS-pd5dc I mean, its the same as how we came back down 28-3, thinks went against us as well to cause us to be down 28-3, thats the point, we focus on the winning team moment, because teams don't get fortunate chances for things to lean towards their way especially down to the final minutes to make comebacks and win or lose barely, thats the point, its same like all our other super bowls, you can say we outplayed them, but I see them as fortunate circumstances in the final drives

The 2007 New York Giants season is THE greatest underdog story of all-time in sports.
Ryan Randone this kind of felt like a little payback from that Red Sox team coming back from 0-3 and breaking the curse, as far as a NY/Boston rivalry is concerned. Nothing is gonna take away that hurt. But this felt good lol

And the Dolphins' perfect season was saved. :)
The patriots that year were still better than those overrated dolphins

Game itself wasn't that compelling but the ending of this game is legendary

Watching the best front 4 ever to play the game is scary. Brady had like 3 seconds before sack was coming every play
+SoulFlavor18 by all means I love watching dominant defenses but maybe because the score was so close and both defense were strong I didn't feel that way. Like I can go back and watch Super Bowl 48 because of how Seattle completely dominated that game
that was aboslutely not the best front 4 ever they werent even great at stuffing the run and were lucky to be playing an offense that despite its ability to score pts was totally one dimensional
+dp233332 5 sacks on brady. Knocked down over 6 times. 16 rushes 45 yards best O' line. These are stats my brotha +jras410 I see. To me watching that SB is like watching certain college football games. That's why I skipped watching today
This is the greatest NFL ! Cinderella story I’ve ever watched in my life!!
I give respect to teddy Bruschi and the rest of the defensive players that still strapped up and played until the end unlike the rest of the patriots. I understand being upset so wildly but you gota keep the good sportsmanship
Well I mean they did have to though.
Let me add a time stamp to NFL's description because it's an EXTREMELY important play that nobody mentions. 2:01:49 Manning to Steve Smith to convert on 3rd and 11
YES! A HUGE PLAY on that last drive, i don't think it gets as much credit as it should, then again how can you top that catch by Tyree? lol. but i agree, it was a huge 3rd down conversion by Steve Smith. Shame he didnt turn out to be as good as i thought he would for the Giants after a couple seasons after this game, went to Philly and of course, going there you're bound to turn to complete UTTER TRASH! LMFAO !
HalloweenNight78 LMAO about Philly! But yeah, I loved Steve Smith. Dude was really good before he tore his knee up
#5xSBchamps! #AmericasTeam! #WeDemBoyz! I think Steve Smith turned out ok for the most part
MrBaddog7676 Actually, not as what you might think. Although that was a big 3rd down to convert, giants were in a situation in which many people call "4 down territory" which means you have 4 downs because you have to go for the score. That's why 3rd downs lose there importance on game winning drive where you have to score.
yeah but do you really want to see Eli and the Giants have to convert on a 4th and 11 against that Patriots defense? It becomes one single long shot play for all the marbles. We know the 3rd and 11 wasn't do or die, it was just closing in on do-or-die. 3rd and 11 is still tough. Plus, the Giants had no timeouts by then, so the fact that Smith got the 1st down and then got out of bounds, ASAP is huge. If he catches it inbounds, the Giants have to race to the line to stop the clock or run a play and lose precious seconds/downs.
Brady laughed off plaxico guarantee of the score 23-17 and said plaxico only thinks were gonna score 17. But actually plaxico gave them more credit than they deserved. They only scored 14. Lol.
I remember Brady's response when Plax predicted the score..."we're only gonna score 17 points? ha ha ha ha......A hole.

Ricky Blanchette 35-14 makes me laugh too what an ass whooping.

Manu Ginobilis Bald Spot only 2 rings, Eli?
Don’t forget deflated balls
@Harry Johnson Mannn, shut your salty ass up. You people are like a broken record, you just need any/every excuse in attempt to diminish the Patriots success. First of all, show us some evidence that the Pats are truly these big bad "cheaters" that you losers claim.. Secondly, do you honestly believe that no other team in NFL history has bent the rules in some way? Because I can list multiple scandals by other teams, but I highly doubt you even care. Why? Because none of those teams are winning NOW.. So you could care less, you just hate seeing a team that isn't yours, win so much. Quit being a lil cry baby b*tch, you people are like little kids who can't get their way.
I never get tired of watching this game. Best ever!
Easily the worst coaching performance from Belichick and McDaniels. Against a very potent pass rush, they refused to run the ball to set up play-action and kept going for the long ball instead of picking it apart with short passes. That 4th and 13 attempt instead of kicking a FG is the backbreaking play that everyone forgets.
Exactly people forget about that 4th and 13.
Pats: LOL HAWKS DIDN'T RUN THE BALL Pats: LOL FALCONS WERE 25 POINTS AHEAD Giants: LOL 18-1
Exactly. Giants said hold MY beer.
That one hurts the most. Atleast when the Eagles won it was because of the Patriots self destructing that season
“Spencer West” man stop with the excuses the Patriots didn’t self destruct they got outplayed by the eagles because the eagles were the better team and they were better team all year in 2017 this is why people can’t stand the Pats because fans like you who don’t know how to give credit when credit is due your a clown !

Re-watching this after all these years, I think it's funny how nonchalant the announcers were when the helmet catch happened. I expected an uproar, but they were just kinda like "Wow, great catch dude."
Joe Buck is and always has been horrible. One of the greatest plays in Super Bowl history and Buck acts as if he's doing commentary on a chess match
I just muted Joe Buck's call and replace it with Marv Albert's. Joe Buck kinda made up for it with Eli to Plaxico Burress.
How many times do I hear that Giants were lucky..they dominated the game. The parade in lower manhattan was excellent everyone was in shock
Not fair to say the Giants were lucky: They played great defense. And luck generally evens out, so 1 or 2 lucky things isnt a main factor. However, I think it would be fair to say Eli Manning was lucky on that last drive. It wasnt just 1 or 2 things, and it wasnt just the Tyree catch (which isnt made on 8 out of 10 times) and it wasnt just Eli escaping a sack (not 1 of Eli's strengths)- it was also that he should have been picked twice on that drive, and 2 other passes should/could have been picked. (and in addition to those 6, throw in as a cherry on the top the no holding called on the Tyree play, and Eli scrambles in that last drive, gets tackled from behind and though the ball is loose, he somehow doesnt fumble)😎
@@irar4665 and yet, they actually went down the field in the closing seconds, under extreme duress; luck is always part of winning it wasn’t the main ingredient
its funny how you guys don't call it luck, I call almost all of pats super bowl wins luck, so does some guys on the patriots, I guess it changes up when patriots lose, NFL close games are luck, blowouts is when its not luck
Summing up the 2007 Pats..."18 Wins and 1 Giant loss"...
It was poetic.

Nothing Odell has caught has measured up to the Tyree Catch in that moment. Plus it was Tyree's LAST catch as an NFL Player. People saying skip to 4th quarter, Why? I saw a beast defense after that first allowed TD by Pats. 4 quarters of pure hell unleashed to who some consider the best offense of all time. Giants brought there A game that day, when it all mattered.
Veron Budhia can't be the best offense ever when only 1 lineman was a pro bowler. Brady was godly that year but Maroney, Kyle Brady, Steve Neal, Nick Kaczur, and Dan Koppen were all subpar players starting on that team.
also brady had many opportunities to hit open receivers all game, but he couldnt make the throws he's used to because he was worried of the pressure.
The o-line having a bunch of pro bowlers doesnt determine whether or not the team is great offensively. They had Brady,Moss and Welker and set all kinds of offensive records that year. The Pats were arguably the greatest offensive team ever and the Giants defeated them. Giants get all the props!!
You Pats fans should know from experience that nothing matters if you can't win the last game of the year. Like the Rams' Adam Timmerman said after their upset in Super Bowl 36, "doesn't matter what we did earlier, our entire season was a waste."
Veron Budhia how many times did brady miss moss deep tho smh they got in his head
