Four years after Hurricane Katrina ravaged their city, and poor play soiled their team, the New Orleans Saints soared through the 2009 season with a potent passing attack led by Drew Brees. After defeating Hall of Fame quarterbacks Kurt Warner and Brett Favre, the Saints would face the ultimate test: Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts. The Saints found themselves down entering the second half, but a gutsy onside kick to begin the third quarter would give the Saints the momentum needed to win the first Lombardi trophy in franchise History.

As a kid growing up in New Orleans, Peyton dreamt of throwing the game-winning TD for his father's team, the Saints, in the Super Bowl. In SB44, his dream finally came true.
Ass! 😄
JimHawkwind03411 lol
JimHawkwind03411 LOL
JimHawkwind03411 your right, but not the way he wanted it too lol😂
LOL.YOU FUNNY
I remember listening to this game on the radio cause I was in a jail in Bogalusa,la which doesn't have t.v. in there I'm from N.O. been a saints fan all my life and so is my family my Grandmaw and my nanny passed away a couple of yrs before and I can remember looking up at the ceiling and asking my Gmaw and nanny to guide them to win and they did lol talk about seeing a grown man cry in jail yes I was in tears. I am watching it today to take my mind off of whats going on in the world today. Stay safe everybody who reads this and stay healthy.
I hope you're doing well now. Jail is no place for anyone with a heart like yours. Stay out of the pen and do the right thing. Best wishes. WHO DAT!⚜️
That's awesome man
Who else came here for pat mcafee’s kickoff
Same
I came midway through the video just to make sure he didn’t mess up the kick 😂
Me.
Me and bcuz I like the saints
Man I came here for that Tracy pick 6 and that halftime onside
The onside kick is legendary. What a play call
that tracy porter and drew bress shredding them. these 3 things stick out in your mind when this superbowl is mentioned
Empyre Ryze Took huge balls to make that call.
That BOUNTY is legendary what a call
Leandro Versoza lol what bounty? They never found the evidence on the bounty.
how come several staff of the Aints were punished if there's no evidence? Including Sean PAYton, you mean the investigations is just mere speculation? oh c'mon!
2 of the best days in my life that I will never forget...Saint's winning the Super Bowl and my daughter born the day after. LOL my wife was actually in labor at the hospital getting ready to start pushing while we watched the game...she's the best.
Richard Pfirrman bet her middle name is drew
@@lsusaints36horton45 first name tracy
What a great story. Congrats to your family
Richard Pfirrman great story and congratulations
OUTSTANDING!!
The quarter was LIT that night. People were wilding till the sun came up the next day.
I was there. I remember it well.
Who else watching this after Drew Brees last game? Legend
Me
Now he’s saying he might be back 👀
I still get chills watching Tracy Porter pointing to the crowd as he took it to the house. He played that route perfectly
My only purpose for revisiting this #CowboysFanTho
Manning starred the WR down the entire time He choked and threw 2 picks that looked the exact same
You have to live in Louisiana to understand how important this was. Especially if you lived anywhere near New Orleans. Katrina ripped us apart and the saints brought us back the same year!
And you had to have gone through hell sleeping in the Superdome to think to yourself... "How are the Saints still here after what happened?"
I feel you, I’m from LA but the same year? Katrina was in 2005.
Rite
MsPrincefamily They mean that the year Katrina hit was pretty much the same year that the Saints became the team we know.
@@MsPrincefamily They were 3-13 in 05. Hired Sean Payton and acquired Drew Brees in 06 and went to the NFC championship game that season. That was the beginning of this 09 Superbowl run.
brees completed like 90% of his passes from the 2nd q. killed them
Mo A always remember we were losing a lot and being trashed boom 35 points
That onside kick was one of the best calls of all time.
Could've easily been one of the worst calls of all time if they weren't successful.
@@Bryan-od1lw Right. It wasn't smart just gutsy. Luck was on the Saints side that they recovered the onside kick
@@kamaldonadelle4305 when you have a team that wants to win and strives really hard to win youd be surprised by the plays they will make
@@damikey18 Oh no doubt. Some coaches will take the biggest of risks and call plays to help the team score points to help win them the game. That play call was very risky. Because it could've went the other way. That's the reason I said it wasn't smart but it was gutsy. This is no insult or knock on Sean Payton's coaching ability. He sure was a hell of a great coach. He coached with balls and guts. The Colts coach coached cowardly and too conservatively
@@kamaldonadelle4305Sometimes you have to make gutsy plays and take the risk
Good upload NFL. One of the more underrated Super Bowls in my opinion.

The most watched superbowl up until it's time!! May still be!! Who Dat! KENNA BRUH!
Watched this at like 10 at my step dads friends house hella nostalgia
Next year watched my favorite team the packers get one there too Amazing so long ago
Two of the greatest QBs of all time going head-to-head.
I still get chills watching Tracy Porter with the biggest play in Saints' history. I was so numb and it felt so surreal that I couldn't even scream. Thank you so much NFL experts and pundits across the country for saying over and over that the Saints didn't stand a chance against the Colts. 31-17 baby!!! WHO DAT!!!
Being a 11 year old at that time and watching my hero Brees lead the saints to our first super bowl win was magical. I will never forget this game.
I'll never forget how much we lost our minds watching 1:29:35 live, it was truly legendary moment in time. We didn't even watch the rest of the game, jumped right in the car and went straight to the city. Jumped a curb and parked her under the interstate. Had quite a night
As a Louisiana boy who lived in Nola for a while I don’t remember much from my youth but I remember where I was and who I was with the day this game happened. All of south Louisiana erupted after that onside kick, we knew the momentum had shifted to give us the win:)
No disrespect to Peyton and the Colts but damned if the whole country wasn't rooting for New Orleans that night
i always root against mamming and-or polian
Christian Schneider Yeah, I mean the only good Saints playoff run prior to 2008, against a team that already has a few Super Bowl wins.
Except for 2 states.... Indiana and Minnesota lol. Im a Vikings fan and I'm still salty af.
Well at least you got some revenge this past post season. I'm salty about that lol
nah
His certainly was one of the best things to happen for the city of New Orleans. Just 4 years after hurricane Katrina hit, the Saints win the Super Bowl. It really doesn't get any better than that!
Except that surprise '06 season. Da Bears ruined N.O.s chances for a true Football Fairytale! WhoDat!?!
hank olsen that what it takes to get to the super bowl is a hurricane, then maybe you better hope for another one because the Saints will keep choking until then ha ha ha
Homer Speedy salty colt fan I see lol
@@homerspeedy9397 so salty lmao
Call me whatever you want, but I think the Tracy Porter interception is on the same level as the Steve Gleason “Revival” play. It just sends shivers down my spine every time I see it
The best moment of my life as a sports fan.

Onside kick is the ballsiest thing I’ve ever seen
Remember when the super bowl actually had new logos every year and were creative
JJPower2 they still do
Illuminati King Trunks. It's the same, silver with trophy base, not the different color schemes and logo base every year
I wish they would use numbers like they did for SB 50 instead of ancient roman numerals. each SB would be much more recognizable if they used numbers. for example can you remember the numbers for the Elway SBs? early 30's i would guess.
@@mikefingers8909 Nah I like the roman numerals.
@@mikefingers8909 they should leave it like it is
Porter's interception was ICONIC! Imagine intercepting Favre in the NFC Championship and then interception Manning in the Super Bowl!
Crazy that Drew Brees' next 11 years were heartbreak after heartbreak
Depends on what you mean by heartbreak. They were playoff contenders and NFC championship contenders for a while. As a Saints fan, that's more than many can say about their teams for 11years. I'll take overall success.
@@dbsti3006I think he means heartbreak as in not getting BACK to the SB, he definitely deserved it. WHO DAT ⚜️
Not really tho. I think he had a great time after this
They were robbed several times
Saints with their crazy a** plays. Surprised the Colts.
Brees announced retirement a day ago, and i can't stop watching greatest moments of him and THAT Saints offense
Now he’s saying he might come back
@@Captainbadger123he didn’t bro same with Brady the new era truly begins when Aaron leaves
That onside kick changed the game IMO.
Since I was born on the day after the Super Bowl in 2000 I've always had Super Bowl birthday parties. I will never forget watching my Saints win this game
Always have to come back and watch this because will never know what it feels like again
Seeing that INT of Tracy Porter and that goal line stand will never be forgotten it literally brought tears to my eyes hollering WHO DAT! WHAT A MEMORY that changed New Orleans for good. Now praying this year's run will be just as memorable GEAUX SAINTS ⚜⚜⚜⚜⚜⚜⚜⚜⚜

Top 5
I was born near N.O. the same year the Saints started playing and have been a life-long fan. This game was the BEST!!
Guess it’s another one of those days for us Saints fans huh...
We all will miss brees 😪
I'm not even a saints fan and i miss drew brees
I love all those flashes from old cameras! It really added to the fandom. You don't see that anymore. That's something I really miss in sports
That was cool, when something big would happen the flashes were everywhere I miss that too.
It was a dream come true as a life-long Saints fan to finally see them win a Super Bowl! I love it, and will never forget it! Who Dat! Geaux Saints!
Love this Super Bowl Saints Team.😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
I’m a colts fan but it was nice to see the saints win the super bowl after Katrina
Brees has the finest arm the league has ever seen. It's undebatable.
Well Drew and Peyton Manning.
And Brady

All that flash photography during the kickoff looks cool af
This was really the last super bowl between 2 likable teams.
umm 10 years later? the chiefs and niners? they were somewhat likable lol
TheyHateMarc because of bounties? Peyton barely got hit this game. 10 years later and u still salty? Well I would be to being a panther fan right now.
saints won because peyton wanted them to win
This game still hurts my heart! Im a die hard manning fan. Brees' kid helped make me feel better. It was too cute seeing him up there. I was happy for the saints that year. I was so glad to see manning win one more (i know the defensive did most of the work!...but it still counts ha) best of luck to brees, the nfl robbed us of a brees/b rady super bowl 2 years ago. That could have been epic
what happened 2 years ago? or 4
@@dmullz100the dpi no call on Robey Coleman on the potential go ahead td drive in the 2018 NFC championship game.
When the Saints won. The WHOLE state of Louisiana turned into the 4th of July & New Years. Fireworks everywhere. Cops couldn’t stop it. Most loyal fan base of all time ⚜️
The Colts were the best team in league that year. The fact the Saints did the onside kick proved that to me. Craziest play call I ever saw. Changed that game completely.
The Indianapolis Colts' franchise has never been the same since 47:40.

If you grew up a Saint, were a Saint,or always have been a saints fan, this one will touch ur heart
The Red Sea parted and the Saints of God went marching in! Thank you Lord Jesus Christ for Tracy Porter! I was at a friend’s house with family and friends all around me. I was 3 feet from the TV on my knees praying in the Holy Spirit! Right before Tracy caught the pick, the Holy Spirit told me “pick 6”. I yelled out “We are gonna get a pick 6!”, and the next thing I know Tracy is on his way to the end zone! That’s for all you atheists and unbelievers out there! Jesus Christ is God, He is real, He is risen, He is Lord, and He rules! All praise, honor, and glory to you Lord Jesus Christ!!!
Absolutely brother! I may never meet you, but I will see you in Heaven with my Creator. All blessings to you!
Pierre Thomas should have been the Super Bowl MVP and Tracy Porter honorable mention for the picks he got in the NFC Championship and Super Bowl...!
Damn I’m watching this again after the movie “Home team” on Netflix lol, that onside kicks risks vs reward was CRAZY. But man did it pay off for them they earned that Win for sure 🔥
Brees was phenomenal
being from New Orleans man... we was so happy as a city everybody partied so hard this night
The last Super Bowl to have a creative and unique logo
59:07 one of the best throws I’ve seen in a Super Bowl.

Who wound up winning tho
That pile up is so much longer then I remember. Both sides knew just how much of a game changer that decision would be.
My favorite game in NFL history. I'll never forget watching that game. Who dat, baby....
When my mind is in a bad place and I want to get out of it, as a Saints fan, I'll watch the whole 2009 Saints NFL series, which most full games are on KZhead, it will take me out of that bad space for a long time. If you are a Saints fan, and you get that way too, I suggest you do the same. Great therapy for me!
Who’s here after the Saints lost in the playoffs again to remember the good times.
Realiscally one of my favorite Super Bowls.
Realiscally?
The pick six and the 4th down stop were passes from Manning to Wayne. Both born in NOLA and played HS ball in NOLA...wow.
Good recognition. I never made the connection.
What a great Super Bowl.
Still come & watch this before the start of each season. I can remember being in the 6th grade & nobody goin to school in New Orleans, the day after the Saints won the super bowl . We watched the game in the lower 9th as a family & I can still remember my pawpaw so happy, he waited all his life to see the Saints win. Still gives me chills. #WhoDat ⚜️
I remember that super bowl Sunday like it was yesterday, from watching Chris Boomer and company talking about the game around noon, the orange XLIV colors everywhere, then riding my bike outside my house, around 5PM then heading inside before the game comes on. I remember cheering the Saints on with my family, wearing the Mardi Gras beads, it was absolutely my favorite super bowl I’ve ever watched. Being a kid then, watching two legends duke it out, was absolutely a treat to watch. As a Cowboys fan, i absolutely love the Saints. Drew Brees deserved this win so bad, Sean Payton made the gutsiest call in NFL HISTORY that night. so historic.
Who’s here after Sean Payton isn’t the saints coach anymore?
2 of the greats of the GREATS going 1 on 1 in the Super Bowl... It doesn't get much bigger than that...

foreheads superbowl stats.....4 games played, a 3td-5int ratio, no tds thrown in crunch time a pick 6 that sealed a loss, only second half td he threw came with his team trailing 36-0
Jake Vincent I came for the onside kick.
Jake Vincent I came for the beginning until the end.
JayTy Harris me too brother WHO DAT BABY
Not a Saints fan but... 😢 Farewell Drew
I get goosebumps every time I see Porter intercepts that ball and run it into the end zone
Joseph Addai played so good in this game. If Colts win, he's the SB MVP.
Peyton took the game into his own hands. Outside of his Pick-Six, the Saints dropped a would-be INT or 2.
Man that roster was so legendary. Couldn’t have awarded a better teamz
Drew Brees belongs at the Top of the list as Greatest QBs in NFL history He along with the saints played all other teams hard They never got intimidated by teams like New England or Indianapolis The saints are one of the best NFL organizations If Brees had of played more games against Brady and manning their Superbowl numbers wins would've decreased Notice how somehow Brees and new Orleans rarely played against Brady and Mannings teams It's my belief that ..that wasn't by accident Brees would have won multiple Superbowls had they scheduled new Orleans more games against Brady and Mannings teams
