I think that steering column is missing a lock ring to keep all the parts in place. The shaft shouldn't be falling into the column like that. I don't think the steering wheel was meant to keep all those parts together. Great vids, keep those buses rolling safely down the road.👍

I removed several parts after the steering wheel came apart. If the correct parts aren't present I will get them and install per the book.

Pretty sure there should be a bearing in the top of the column below the wheel. I think it is still missing parts. I think I would replace that whole column .

I bet the sleeve goes under the steering wheel to push the ring down into the bearing to keep the shaft from wobbling in the coumn housing.

spin the upper bearing locking nut down. then the shaft will stay up then put the steering wheel back on. to get the upper bearing locked you will need to have some one under the bus pushing up on the shaft.

Believe you have an issue with that column. The shaft has to come up farther and the gray nut with the slots then screws onto a threaded area farther down, it adjusts the preload on the columns tapered roller bearings and holds the column in place, a lot like a castle nut on a spindle. Then that sleeve goes on and then the wheel with the sleeve setting the wheel into place on the splines. Don't forget to connect the horn wire.

The wind reminds me of when I built my metal shop in 2007. I welded the frame, and was installing roof purlins when the wind started to come up. As the wind got stronger, me and my buddy came down from our ladders to watch our work being tested. The 20 foot long 8" C-purlins started to oscillate, twisting back and forth, and making a noise that drew my wife out to investigate. We held up well.

No room the thickness of the vice grips doesn’t let the threads engage. You saw us try using pliers and they were too fat and those are skinny ass pliers

As other have already indicated but I agree. The column must be missing other parts as it should not pull in and out like that. Well on cars they don't so I would assume the same would apply to a but. Defiantly not safe the way it is in my opinion.

I told him today when we put it on that the splines are looking stripped and it needs to be replaced and that it shouldn’t be driven without further investigation.

I'm guessing that's not the original colum for that bus. That thing is beautiful on the outside. Are we going to get a tour? And I'm curious. What would be the annual maintenance cost for a bus that large if you did an average amount of travel(no idea what average is). And is the annual maintenance for an older bus like yours, more or less, because of age? I'm getting more and more interested in something like this since I just retired.

When I purchased the bus was being extensively repaired and upgraded. There was no misrepresentation of it being road-ready. In the 4 years I have owned it was towed into the Lucky Dog Bus Hangar and then to BGM Mountain. Once I sell the rest of the fleet we will be digging in and will see what we have to work with, or not.

I actually did get a good deal and time will tell just how much of a problem child it is - Scott and I rescued to coaches over the years that had been sitting for decades and brought them back to safe operational use..... and all at considerable cost. I bought that coach at height of the COVID mess. Stay tuned.

Wow there was or still is a recal on steering wheel for heavy busses and trucks if this recall isnt taken care of there can be a loss of steering causing a crash it happend to me im lucky to be alive get it fixed it happened to me in a semi this is for resent trucks and buses 2012-2023 your coach may have this recall

No we are not an rv park. But sometimes our clients live full time in their buses so they stay while we work on them. Some of our friends can camp out from time to time as we have camping spots but not open to the public
