Woodturning - From Firewood to Future Family Heirloom (Fantastic!)

2023 ж. 23 Қар.
29 493 Рет қаралды

Woodturning - In this video I use two maple firewood pieces that are peppered with bird eye's and combine them with the Pro Series to induce lots of thermal cracking. From there, I then use the Kintsugi method of repairing pottery pieces, but apply it to the epoxy to make this a future family heirloom! This could just be one of my best pieces, thanks for watching and please share with our friends!

  • Just wanted to say that in the middle of a bunch of stress and anxiety, being able to sit down with a cup of coffee and watch you create this beautiful piece was like finding a port in a storm this morning! Thanks for being there and I hope you get your 4 feet back!

    • This came out soooo well! I'm surprised that the silver infill does not show more starkly silver in the finished piece, but you can still see the crack. For sure the orientation of the wood to form the wavey epoxy line was the way to go!

  • Definitely the best-looking hammer attack victim I've ever seen. Dang Jim that is simply incredible. Just as resin was a great leap forward for your work, the hypershift is another game changer. This video was a perfect example of what I love about your channel. Besides the creativity, you give us a good laugh now and then. Hard to believe this was an hour-long video. Time flew like shavings.

For instance, I did a huge wood and epoxy piece, and incorporated it into my floor. I love the intent behind the Arts&Crafts movement of the late 1800’s and try for both artistic beauty and function in my pieces.💕 Your pieces are stunning, which is why I watch!

  • Your hollow form is very beautiful. I would just suggest for next time, and for my aesthetics, leave a little more wood on the top to keep the ribbon of purple resin more centered. Your choice of wood and resin color, and your techniques are far superior to anyone else I have seen.

  • You sure made the right call when you decided to turn the end-grain 90 degrees to one another. This piece is stunning. Thanks for the tips on using the hollowing system. Mine still hasn't gotten any further than being taken out of the box, but now that winter is setting in, I hope to have more time and get it rigged up and start making some hollow forms. I'm sure I'm going to have to modify my laser attachment so I'll have to dig up your video on how you did it. Thanks again for all your videos and all the tips.

  • I am surprised that it didn't thermal crack all over! I did an oversized pour with the Art Cast, and it only had 2 cracks in it. But it ruined my bucket from the heat of it cooking off. This turned out beautiful Jim!! It kinda has the urn feel. I love the hyper shift too!! Thank you again for your time and sharing with us! Good luck on the 4 feet! Maybe you could take the head of the treasury department out for a nice meal and a couple adult beverages and convince her to loosen up the purse strings a little!! FYI, it doesn't work with my wife either!! Cheers!!
