Just before midnight, Conroe Police were sent to a wrong-way driver fatal crash on I-45 just south of FM 1097. They spent most of the night working the crash. The road was close to being reopened when at 5:13 am a Ford SUV traveling southbound at close to 80 miles per hour struck the rear of an 18-wheeler stopped with his flashers on in the backup of the first crash just north of FM 1097. The SUV then struck another 18-wheeler. Two victims were pinned in the wreckage and a third female victim was ejected under the 18-wheeler. North Montgomery County Fire Department cut the male driver out. He was transported to CHI Conroe in critical condition. His female passenger was deceased as was the female ejected. Willis Police were assisted by DPS in working the crash. NMCFD spent over an hour freeing the female victims from the twisted metal. Inside the vehicle, they also found a deceased black lab. Montgomery County Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack responded to the scene for the inquest and ordered Eickenhorst Funeral Directors to transport the victims to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy. The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office Vehicular Crimes Unit responded to the scene to assist in filing possible charges on the driver. None of the three had identification.

  • To all those with condolence, thank you. My Aunt was in that front passenger seat and the Bible was hers. To the others who are commentators on her death- state patrol said it was foggy and he wouldn't have seen the flashers. Should he have been speeding, no; I'm sure there are many who do, have, and will continue to. I never understood the trauma of one of these videos until now. And always wondered why people would rant about taking them down...now I know. RIP Aunt Chris and knowing the status of the driver may the Lord ease your pain mentally, physically, and emotionally.

    • as someone else pointed out, When you are not looking at an analog speedometer straight on it's going to give you a false reading. The condition is called parallax. My guess is they were going closer to 70 miles an hour. But still that speed into a stationary 50000 pound object is going to give you the same results.

I was in High School in 1967 and had Driver's Ed to teach me how to drive and all that's involved, plus viewing the scenes of horrific accidents and how to prevent them! I'm 70 years old and have never been in an accident, or have had a ticket of which I'm proud of! When driving, I always think of what was learned in that class!

I see raw news feeds all the time and trust me, they film everything. Not about getting the face for the media side but often (at least the few times I have done this recording) investigators, insurance copies ask for access because many jurisdictions only take minimal photos. • @@AmyBethB I’m so sorry for the loss of your father. I used to work with my husband who was a truck dispatcher. When the drivers came in to drop-off their paperwork, they’d tell stories of close calls and how people would pull in front of them at stop lights. They have a dangerous, pretty much thankless job. I-40 in Arkansas is a nightmare for truckers; it really should be an eight-lane interstate, then more good men, like your dad, wouldn’t lose their lives. I’m thankful your husband got out alive. A Toyota Camry had gone east on the west bound side of I 10 It hit 1 rig, bounced off of it and was hit by another. Then some how got thrown under the trailer of another. Now what is strange is the hatch window of the car did not break. ...However that was the only thing that was in one piece not bent The small trucks pulled the car out in 3 big pieces and a bunch of scrap all over the place. We had to lift the trailer to get the car out even then. The first rig had to be towed, the 2nd rig we pulled the bumper out so he could go, and the 3rd had to be towed (air line were torn up) We had to get some bleach and a hose after the car pieces 2 days later for all the flies.

Can't tell you how many times I've seen 11 cars driving relatively the same slow speed with 5 feet distance from themselves they look like a small school of fish. It only takes one driver to mess up or one offensive driver who hates the lack of awareness to cause a vicious collision. You should keep distance from other cars while driving your chances of collisions will decrease.

  • Such a terrible tragedy, prayers for all involved. I travel to Germany and around Europe for work often and one thing I'd like to see the US hwy sys implement is their emergency alert system for these situations. It will come over your vehicles stereo or nav system and interrupt any station, bluetooth, usb device, cd etc that is playing and give you locations of stopped traffic and accident sites warning you to slow down. Similar to the emergency alert system we have here that will interrupt your tv broadcast for tornado warnings etc.

    • Several years ago I came up on a scene at an major crossroads where a jackass drunk driver ran a red light and t-boned a van with people on their way to a family Christmas get-together. There were Christmas presents scattered everywhere. Luckily the family was okay, just really shaken up. I was afraid for the kids as it's hard to keep them still when they are excited. Both the drunk and his passenger were thoroughly blitzed and were headed to a liquor store to buy more! This kind of person should be put in jail forever and never allowed outside to breathe fresh air again! Our laws and wimpy court system are far too lenient on drunk drivers.
