Why buy a Festool domino over every other machine

This video are odd clips of me making chairs and were used as a reference for me to remember how to do them. Concentrating on set up and movie making at the same time was not easy to do all while in a shop with other people and constant interruptions and noise. I have full breakdown of complete machining I will edit in the future. These lessons for me took a long time to figure out. If you watch to the end there is always a point I am making.

  • Nice! You really master the domino. Do you always use it on a bit loose setting?

    • No, when you are using more than 1 domino at a time, alignment can be difficult to get your parts assembled. Referencing exact position on odd shapes such as on those curved pieces are hard to match up. More square and linear are not as much of an issue. On the other hand when making a cabinets you might have 10 or more dominoes in a row and what I do is put the small holes on 1 piece and larger ones on the other because trying to assemble requires a lot of force and you have to push the piece in parallel vs ,I use a little angle to get 1 to start and then push the pieces together When I make chairs, I can use a double domino using the pins as a second placement but that machine is no longer available.

    • @@pro-woodworking-tips Not sure what you mean with "double domino ... machine is no longer available" but no problem. So you use domino's for cabinets too instead of lamello's... Thanks!

    • @@twandieltjes1359 The Original domino came with pins instead of the hinged block they use today. The pins were a patent infringement, so they stop selling that model 10 yeas or so ago. You could put the pin inside a cut domino using it as a reference and get another precision placement. Hence when making the seat surround on a chair I put double dominoes in a piece around 2.5 Inches in width.
