  • What people don't understand is how just simply being arrested can destroy your life. If you don't have the money to post bail, you sit in jail. You can be fired from your job. Lots of communities have "booking logs" where your arrest is posted online and the next thing you know, your picture is being distributed around on Facebook and everyone decides you must be guilty because you were arrested. So I completely understand why someone would resist being placed in handcuffs, especially when that someone is completely innocent.

By stopping they’re essentially admitting their guilty and their actions were unjustified. Instead they escalate the situation to a point where now they can argue “oh the suspect was resisting”, but their resistance was a function of their escalation. So instead of backing down, these police double down and make the situation violent. Lots of ego problems

Here's a few reasons: The personal info of every person the police encouner would be leaked to the public. (Driver license, full name, address, etc) Police might be conducting sensitive activities ( surveillance, interviews, etc) And the private info of the officers would be leaked. Came up to me the same way and when I asked what I was being arrested for they refused to say so of course I resisted like this. Once they cuffed me and put me in the car they did all sorts of tests because they thought I had to be on drugs for it to take 2 officers like 15min to get me down(Was sober and pumped full of that good adrenaline) Then they had the balls to ask why I resisted and told them what would you do if you were being arrested knowing you haven't done anything and not being told why. They had no response just writing. Then get this they tell me what I'm going to jail for they tried to pin me with was resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer. The "assault" was because while I was resisting we eventually ended up on the ground and apparently the officers got a couple bad scrapes from the cement. Also had the balls to ask if I was ok. Had to be bailed out by fam no money for anything but a public defender. Wrote a whole letter to the judge saying what happened and that if they charge me I will blow this up. Showed up to court public defender wasn't there and the Judge dismissed the case. Sad thing is this wasn't the last time this has happened. Should have sued both times but I was young 18/19 no money, scared, and the assumption which at the time was pretty accurate people didn't care enough to hear about it

Often they don't apologize when their profiling is incorrect. I was for sure profiled SEVERAL times where the cops made me consent to a search to see if they could find something. One time I got a pen & paper ready to write down a name & badge number. The officer dropped my ID thru the window, into my lap & left without apologizing or saying I was free to go. Cops seem to have a problem profiling black people in general, it don't matter the race of the cop. I can say from experience, as a black woman, I have received more disrespect from black cops as opposed to ones who were not.

See: terry stop, stop and frisk, stop and ID laws. Get rid of those; this problem goes away over night. Instead its always based on "those 1-2 LEOs should be fired!". All and all; who gives a fuck about 1 case; what about the 300,000 others? Hold the law makers, accountable for the BS they created. They have the power to stop this immediately; at least at the state level.

      @Aerogrow@Aerogrow3 жыл бұрын
    • @@Aerogrow unfortunately that’s not 100% true. Many of these laws come from something even deeper. The Supreme Court created qualified immunity which prevents police from being prosecuted unless super supreme conditions are met. As far as politicians go we the people are partly responsible because we have power over those politicians. There are a lot of good police officers out there who want to do great things. But those officers are too oftenly harmed and abused by the “bad apples” which we try to categorize as the few but are the few they destroy them all.
