Bonjour bonjour!
I'm back with part 2 of my little cabin retreat turned into brocante shopping trip in the West of Burgundy at Mello and Manon's place.
I stayed at the Kingfisher Cabin (insta @petit_ranceau) or airbnb:
www.airbnb.nl/rooms/920701413...
Manon and I shopped at two places in this video:
Emmaüs in Magny-Cours (I say Nevers in the video but made a mistake, they’re very close to each other)
Ressourcerie in Clamecy
Do let us know how you like what we found!

  • Mauviel ( whom I have met both in France and London) is a family business very near where I live in Normandy. The town is called Villedieu-Les_Poëles. This little town was once famous for its artisanal copperware. The people of the town are called 'Les Sourdins' because in the previous centuries the copper wares were beaten inside yards, called 'cours' and the hammering noise was so loud that it made people deaf 'sourds' hence Sourdins. The town's name includes Poèles, in copper of course, which means frying pans. God's town of the frying pans is its translated name! It is a lovely little town, untouched like others during the last war, and is also famous for its artisanal bells making. The foundry can be visited and the bells are huge and magnificent. They are exported world wide and the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris had 7 or 8 new ones in 2012. I was there when the convoy left for Paris, and it was a sight to behold! It is on you Tube. Last century they made lace, by hand, and very fine lace it was too. The town was exempt of taxes in the 12th century by Henri De Beauclec, therefore it attracted numerous artisans. It has a huge link to the St John Hospitaliers and every 4 years the town is decorated and many hospitaliers gather in the town and march through the streets. Great spectacle!

  • The 3 mauviel pots were truly a find and a bargain. Those pots now a days each sell in the hundreds($US). I have been using tin lined copper for many decades. Yes low flame, but that is all that is necessary...They cook evenly and are basically non-stick for frying. Last yr. I had quite a few pots retinned. The price depends upon the size/area so at least $100 for a small frying pan. Most people in the US have them for display only, quel dommage. I do not shine mine because it does not affect the way they cook and I don't have time. The tin does get dark usually due to some acid...like lemon. They are wonderful for sautéeing and frying, but use cast iron for searing because that requires a high heat. Grab any more Mauviel that you see just make sure the copper does not show through the tin...then it would need to be retinned.

As you bought your groceries you would get points and so many points meant a plate, etc. My grandmother owned some. I'm not exactly sure it's exactly this design but it looks very much like it.

I am visiting in May and may have to try to find these places although getting things home to Canada is problematic! Cheers Kellie

    @kelliemarquet8518@kelliemarquet85182 ай бұрын
    • Well honestly there are so many differences between places but it also is just a matter of luck. I haven’t found a single one of these cheese molds in five years anywhere else… Sometimes you’re just having a lucky day. Going to ressourceries and Emmaüs is hit and miss as it’s not curated. I’d suggest you go to those first and if you don’t find what you’re looking for try a few real brocantes. Their offer is curated and tiu’re much more likely to find these kinds of items there. You’ll pay more, but you’re paying for the work they have done sourcing and selecting the items. Especially for things that are more rare you can go to 20 Emmaüs and won’t find it. At brocante and antique shops you probably will. Enjoy your trip!

    @joycelasseter7526@joycelasseter75262 ай бұрын
    • Yes the blue pitcher and the plates is what they call “vaisselle alsacienne”. It’s from the Alsace region in the east (which has been part of Germany in history and then French again) and is quite well known and some people collect it. They still make these colorful pottery items in that region today. So it’s definitely French! If you want to learn more, take a picture of it using the Google Lens app. It will show you similar items online and often it will find a website for you where they share more information about the item.

    • C’est chez mes amies Manon et Mello qui habitent de l’autre côté du Morvan, vers Nevers. Ils ont une cabane aussi qu’ils louent et j’y ai passé quelques nuits pendant que mon mari Olav fait les derniers travaux pour l’arrière cuisine. Je ne pouvais pas continuer mes travaux dans cette pièce parce qu’Olav devait terminer la plomberie. Je reprends les travaux cette semaine donc il y aura une vidéo qui montre l’avancée prochainement! Bon week-end!

  • When speaking Dutch to your friend, it would be helpful to add subtitles we know what you're saying to each other, otherwise we haven't got a clue.

    • I understand but it’s so much work and we’re basically saying the same thing: “ooooooh I love this” all the time in different expressions 🤣 I prioritize manually putting in English subtitles so people who don’t speak English can select KZhead’s automated translations.
