  • Hello fellow brocante lover! The somewhat fact about the knives is a real thing. When we moved south, the realtor and the previous owners son took out their own knives when we shared meals and it was explained to us that it was common for people most particularly Men to have their own pocket/tool/meal knives. I too have had difficulty finding knives to match spoons and forks. 😂 As an Etsy seller, I also consider the time it takes to curate all the pieces, cleaning, presenting ideas and definitely the packing!❤Love the cake set!

  • So enjoyed this video! Just returned from 3 weeks in the Loire Valley and visiting as many Emmaus shops as I could find. As a textiles major, I'm always looking for lovely cotton and linen sheets, pillowcases, tablecloths and the wonderful. huge French linen napkins. If there is a monogram, all the better. Ended up with 4 sheets and a few Euro pillowcases, plus a few of the long bolster pillowcases.....charming! Also keep an eye out for beautiful fabrics, mostly vintage, and also vintage trims and such...... Found some glass knife rests for little gifts for Christmas and a lovely little turned walnut container that was just too sweet to leave behind. I always take many photos of furniture at Emmaus as the prices can be quite reasonable......but like you, often leave without purchasing anything. As for knives, I found a few treasures at an open market in Tours in 2021 and bought the men in my life....husband, son, grandson the traditional pocket knife with the little silver bee.....can never remember the brand name but love all of their knives. I saw a stunning red pearly handle knife....and was told that it was for a lady......so it became mine that day and I never travel without it. It's these little things that make my trips to France so sweet! Cheers!

  • Yes in the country men used to take their Opinel knives to meals . I think the item with small holes was for a gigot presented at table to be carved, so the juices run through. Never seen one so I am guessing. The plates that you showed were often given against tokens from coffee purchases. I have some that were.

    • @@FrenchCountryLife now I read, that Sterling silver shouldn't go into the dishwasher, because it contains much copper, which they wrote, easily changes colour in the dishwasher. The safest silverware to put into the dishwasher they wrote, was the one with 150 (massive silver) and 90 (pleated silver) parts of silver, which is shown on the mark. This is because it contains nickel. Hope this helps. Thank you for keeping this comment section personal. It is a lot of work.
