antique carroll & jamieson lathe from the US, we found and bought from a mechanical workshop in vietnam. this carroll & jamieson lathe is American made in 1925 up to now this lathe is almost 100 years old. the machine has completely rusted and many things are not complete but we still bought this lathe to restore.I hope you find something useful from this video!

This is clearly not a rebuild. Just a clean up and repaint. The motor was not rewound, clearances, straightness was not checked. I understand it's all about financial allowances but this should be considered a clean up not a rebuild.

ну что, красиво "отремонтировал". для них сойдёт, в ихнем климате даже солярка покрывается плесенью. как это насекомые не сожрали изоляцию на электропроводах. ну а "точность" для них понятие растяжимое. главное крутится и гудит.
Да, на ремонт не похоже. Но и у нас не лучше.
Осталось покрасить кулачки в разные цвета.

Ничего вы не понимаете, станок явно под открытым небом работал. Этот старичок с другой стороны, нормальная точность изготовления при такой станине. И особой сложности в нем я не увидел. У меня есть станок 70-х, так извиняйте, на нем вариатор есть.

This is the same lathe I ran with my first job as a machinist apprentice 40 years ago. Properly restored, that thing will probably be more precise and outlast any manual engine lathe in modern production.

they cleaned this lathe and repainted it , thats NOT a restored lathe . I didn't see not one new seal bearing or any scraping take place .

@@user-td9lk2sw4g Прикол ещё в том,что станок перекрасили только снаруже, а унитри станины и тумбы - красить не стали. Да поповоду поджипников - действительно забавно, например коробка передачь без единого подшипника - собрана вся на бронзовых втулках, а нет один конусно-роликовый подшипник ,всё так и засветился. Почему-то никому в голову не пришло что можно расточить посадочные места под нормальные подшипники. Но если посмотреть под другим углом- то даже такой станок лучше чем наличие никакого станка. И патрон совсем не нужно было красить, его достаточно было почистить и смазать.
Им надо было не так сделать. Я вообще не понимаю, зачем они грязь убирали? Под краской-то и не видно будет, а если отойти, так вообще класс. Этот станок будет классно смотреться на детской площадке, только на суппорт нужно ещё коня на пружинке поставить, и обязательно не забыть его покрасить. Ну, думаю, эти ребята про такое не забудут. Хотя, знаете, они же забыли покрасить направляющие, и шестерни передач, так что напоминание о покраске коня всё же оставлю.
Я как не разбирающийся спрошу, регулировать всё равно же надо, настраивать?
@@paracit100 Щабрить нужно очень много. Настраивать, да. Этот станок рабочий с виду но на нём ничего нормально не сделать. А эти ребята просто развлекли: не понимая, что это такое, как работает, они просто отчистили и покрасили. Шкивы, в месте с ручьями, патрон, суппорт, не разбирая, и т.д.
replacement parts are a problem, but a lathe is one of the only machine tools that can build itself. so you usually end up using the broken machine to make parts to fix the broken machine. Many have done this. Great job on the restore.
Before putting all this effort into a cosmetic restoration, I would have got a competent lathe engineer to check how much wear there is in the main bed, using something like a Taylor Hobson Optical flatness gauge. If the bed, as is likely has severe wear patches, then, if it is going to be a user lathe, it would need to be reground prior to reassembly. If however it is only for a museum exhibit then the cosmetic restoration is just fine. Good job!

Еще помыл почистил, с моющим средством помыл кстати. Не очень понятно правда, зачем он нониусы все закрасил и часть резьбы, но хозяин барин теперь стоит радует.

Ну я бы не назвал это рестоврацией, просто разобрал помыл и покрасил. Да же патрон покрасил)) человек просто снимает видео ради видео. Он так зарабатывает деньги.

Как передачи переключаются, просто загляденье. Гитара с шестеренками с переключением передач тоже круто. Правда кажется что там возможно все подачи может оказаться только на дюймовые резьбы. Не удивлюсь если таком станке еще будет малый ход чтоб резьбы плашками резать. Хорошая техника времен войны во Вьетнаме.
Самое главное не сделано- геометрия направляющих не восстановлена. зато все улили краской. Зачем красить патрон и штурвалы, ручки? Такое впечатление, что готовят для продажи в расчете на глупого покупателя
@@user-tp4zk1df4v ну хайпа не будет, не порть малину. Шабрить поверхности нужен инструмент, точные и правильные замеры, поверочные линейки. Если к тебе пришел бесплатно станок с помойки, будешь ли ты заморачиваться с целым набором инструментов, который в нормальную деньгу обойдется, а потом на все про все ещё месяц геометрию выводить, вручную. Везти куда-то на шлифовку поверхностей, - да упаси боже. Вокруг такие пейзажи показывают, думаешь в окрестной деревушке стоит фрезер со станиной 6 метровой, и краном для сгрузки-погрузки? По этому сценарию весь народ с канала разбежится.
@@user-tp4zk1df4v с краской, конечно, перебор. А что касается направляющих - скорее всего большая точность им не требуется. Лично я бы при таких вводных максимум внимания уделил бы подшипникам шпинделя, т.к. биение патрона приведет к тому, что изготавливаемые детали будут крайне убогими на вид. Все остальное может лишь создать некоторые сложности в работе
думал что реставрацию полностью сделают, заменят обмотку движка, поставят клеммы на провода обжимные, и так далее ) а так это чисто покрасить и сделать вид как новый (
А потом на продажу, типа не бит, не крашен, точила бабушка раз в десятилетие😁

Нууу я всегда думал что у станка реставрация это в первую очередь замена всех подшипников, на высокий класс точности и шабрение направляющих под индикатор, плюс установка системы СОЖ и доработка масляной системы, и замена всех износившихся деталей, а уж потом замена проводки!😁

20:41 двигатель явно сгоревший, на некоторых проводах даже лак облупился. И когда он крышку шлифовал 15:51 на ней были видны следы копоти.

Those machines are very impressive, in my country everybody is fighting over those when available for sale, because there are few of them and if properly maintained it can last 100+ years easilly. They do not make them as they before, this machines are beasts. Great job on this restoration. Thanks
Restoration? Well its cleaned and painted, were any tolerances checked, are the slideways flat, are all the bearings OK?

Great job! Good effort, but don't forget to add spindle grease to the tapered roller bearings, the bearings will break without it. Also you are the first person i have seen paint a lathe chuck!
I don't why he didn't paint the items as they were apart, especially the tool post / carriage.
@@Azorgi01 When the bolted together connections are bare metal to bare metal, it's more stable and precise than having that double layer of pant between the two parts. Although, in some places on the machine, that wouldn't be a concern.
@@vadimbellous8313 yes, but the proper method is to mask off the areas that do not get painted to stay bare metal, and it’s a perfect finish. It’s more time consuming but in the end a fully proper job.

Все шестерни выглядят как новые! ЭТО УДИВИТЕЛЬНО.
Ничего удивительного нет. Нет токарей-сэлян, только от свинарника, за длинным рублем. нет Плана, с перевыполнением, нет трехсменной нагрузки, Ну и у обслуги, не парк из 70-ти станков на одного слесаря, а наверно всё же слесарь на десять единиц техники. Да и масленщица наверно была, да и график ППР соблюдался. Ну и сама культура производства. Сейчас конечно, в период одноразовости, совсем подругому.
Открою большой секрет, у 50 летнего станка отработавшего по две смены в день, тоже шестерни выглядят как новые.
Когда коту делать нечего, он яйца лижет. Когда псевдореставраторам делать нечего, они станки реставрируют. Ценность станка не в его красоте и блеске, а возможность делать работу, с той точностью, какая у него должна быть от завода производителя. И ни один псевдореставратор не шабрит направляющие, не меняет овальные втулки, и вообще не использует какой либо измерительный инструмент при реставрации. Плохая работа.
Тоже об этом подумал, красивокрашен!

This is not a complete restoration of the machine. You simply dismantled the machine, washed, cleaned, lubricated and painted. Even things that don't need to be painted. Why paint over the handles, tool holder and lathe chuck? It looks like the work was done only to resell the machine.
Great job on the lathe machine. But beds and chucks are not supposed to be painted. The handwheels are painted but looks like you missed a spot 1:12:57. If possible all levers and handwheels should be painted red. But otherwise it's a great job saving a lovely old lathe.
Good job, now i hope you bring it indoors, and use it to fix other restorations you run into. a very powerfull tool right there.
Would've liked to have seen some more actual mechanical repair here!! G&L is Giddings and Lois, and these lathes love to be green again though. Lots of work done here and the paint looks fine. Not sure where that red came from though.. lol!

This is one of the most massive and impressive restoration that I've have seen on KZhead. Very well done. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Not to mention that for the most part this machine was well preserved since none of the parts were damaged before, during, and after the restoration.
You know I think it is the critics that prevent a lot of us from putting our meager efforts at doing anything on to KZhead. Take this project. There are without a doubt a few things that we think should have been done differently. Not painting the chuck. Rewiring more "conventionally", checking the ways with a $60000 laser tool...etc. In addition, there are at least 3 that I can think of, youtubers, that would have wheeled this into their shops with tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment, and "made a new one" of those failing parts. Truth is, I love watching those guys work. But this guy might be the ONLY one of his kind to pull this thing apart in his back yard using a pallett as a bench and with about $50 worth of Harbor Freight tools, to clean it up and make it functional again. I thoroughly enjoyed watching it in the certain knowledge that 50 million critics would have quit when the first screw wouldn't come out straight! Rock on man. Great job.

@@rpken3590 странный вопрос. нужна линейка, уровень и часовой индикатор. с этими инструментами, можно вывести станину в две три сотки.
Пилить болгаркой станину это вандализм, только продольно шлифовальный станок может дать 2,3 сотки при нормальной базе а база это зубчатая рейка.
He didn't line up the oil hole's on the brass bushing's don't know how long this will last with out oil on the derive shaft's.
Probably not long. But I personally liked how all the hazardous stuff is just scraped, grinded and hosed off onto the floor and down a drain to wherever that may go lol. If I had done this video environmentalists would’ve lost their shit and called the EPA.

Wow!!! Incredible work!!! I would have had to take a couple thousand pictures and a hundred different little bags for individual parts to keep them from being lost or mixed up. That transmission was incredibly more involved!!! Again awesome work!!!

That's why I record myself disassembling everything I restore or rebuild. Even though I don't post them.
Paint 'repair'. Painted headstock V-ways, painted the chuck jaws and all, painted the taper attachment slide surfaces and from the looks of it, dinged a few bronze bushings so that they are not in good shape anymore. Nice paint though.

I would have preferred to see two videos, in order to see a better cleaning of this machine, I think it deserved to be better restored, because it is worth having a piece of equipment like this, so if they go for it, give it a try good maintenance, it pays to do your best.
Вот почему я- не токарь, не фрезеровщик- смотрю на этот станок и в душе все поет, как когда смотрел «шоколадницу» Леотара или Первый раз вообще ходил по выставкам яэрмитажа? Наверное потому что это -не ЧПУ, а к этому еще прилагался Мастер!!!! С руками и душой. Наверное мы еще будем плакать по 19-20 векам.

that is the good question ! I suppose they have Shema and Documentation, and especially that each pinion has a engraved reference, because they are almost all alike!

Fantastic stuff The way I see it you have one of the following: a photographic memory; a lifetime of hands on experience or a very detailed manual or a set of blueprints. Perhaps several of the options. 😆 Now just keep it clean and don't let it get as bad as it was before.

For lathe painting is a last thing to do. Scraping of guide lines is first. Second-all bearings. While they did'nt do it, it's worth not more then before. Probably less, cause they puted together something in wrong way

Absolutely wonderful work.This looked like it was in a fire . Even though it is over 100 years old it turned out very well. I just bought a much smaller lathe from the basement workshop of a Man who passed away but his daughter was taught how to use everything but is moving.

It was well used and cosmetically it was a complete wreck, however it was a well maintained machine. All the ways and bushings were properly oiled, most screws came loose with ease, all of the rust was superficial. I started skipping around 15 minutes, because I couldn't see much "restoration", except a well deserved cleaning and painting. And even that wasn't done to the machine. Just look at the casting around the 17 minute mark, that's just a quick rinse job before painting. No sanding, no sandblasting, no putty to restore the biggest dents, not even a primer. Didn't even bother to use ferrules on the battered wiring. I could go on, but I think you get the picture

During and after WWII, my Daddy ran a Davenport turret lathe powered by an overhead jackshaft and 8"-ish leather belt 12-16 hours a day, and I wonder what happened to all those old jackshaft powered machine tools Nelson Electric Company used for 75(??) years. The plant he worked in was built about 1900 and moved about 1970. I was too little to know if the jackshaft was electric or steam powered-I'd guess a BIG electric motor. He also ran a Bridgeport bench lathe and drill press powered by leather belts. I was about three watching him turning something on a bench lathe and fascinated by his spiral of metal 40-60 feet long across the shop floor un-broken. His supervisor said "I.G. knows what he's doing!" I still remember the SMELL of high-sulphur dark cutting oil on GOOD steel! I'm nearly 70. He admired the guy that ran the vertical milling machine. "You can do more damage in less time with that machine than you can imagine son." The guy at my engine machine shop that runs the Sunnen cylinder honing machine is the artist.

How to take a old worn out lathe apart, improperly clean it, reinsert parts like a hacker and then paint it. Now they have a crappy worn-out lathe that looks pretty..
Can't wait to see your next video. By the way, not a crappy lathe but a very fine one. And judging from the close-ups of nearly all the gears, the lathe has hours on it, but is very unlikely to be "worn out".
