    • What ever happened to on-road grip racing? I remember spending my childhood in front of the local hobby town USA, racing around PVC pipes with my 1/10th scale team Losi JRXS. I can't find anywhere even remotely close that does indoor or outdoor on road racing anymore.

      @NNFaNRacing@NNFaNRacing Жыл бұрын
    • @@NNFaNRacingoutdoor onroad is somewhat dead in America. Definitely more popular in Europe. Indoor carpet on road (12th scale pan car/ touring car) is still somewhat popular, but the most popular rc racing right now I would probably say is 10th scale offroad carpet racing. The grip is so high that in the end it feels pretty much like onroad, just with some fun jumps here and there. I would totally reccomend trying out a 10th scale 2wd carpet buggy.

  • in early 2021 I bought an M-08 Tamiya concept RC kit (and then you have to order the motors, servos, the polycarbonate body of the car you want, paint, etc. seperately). It was such a fun build and enjoyable thing to do. I also love building gundams mostly and ive done a FEW regular model kits. You even get to tune the suspension with different shock oil, damping settings, spring stiffness and ride hight, different control arm adjustments for different camber levels, etc. I highly reccomend building an RC car kit if you can. Mine isnt built as a drift car though, just a racing RC with an ND Miata body. I think after buying EVERYTHING for my car I spent maybe $500 total?

    • I have a Traxxas Slayer and a Revo 3.3 which are Nitro RC cars. Had them for 9 years ever since I was little. When they broke originally my dad paid for it but ever since I got a job when I was 15 I paid for the parts. I’ve paid upwards of 2300$ in total over 3 years of having the two of them. But also what didn’t help is when my friend tried to drive the Revo and drove it straight into a carriage wheel and annihilated the whole thing. Chassis was bent, and everything on the front end was done for so I had to rebuild the entire thing. Not to mention the Nitro engines that they use cost 300$ for a new one and i used to break them a lot because I didn’t know how to tune the carburetor properly when I was little so it would run to lean or to rich and the con-rod would split right in half 😂

It's decently cheap and the scale feels like you're actually driving a car, but 3rd person and with less risk of injury. Seeing the little suspension work and the sheer power is amazing.

    • They are pretty fun, i still have 1 drift, 3 bashers, and i had a crawler but i gave it away, before you buy you need to consider on which style suits best for you, each style gets very expensive, i enjoyed bashers more coz i can take them pretty much everywhere and ride it to hell but i did spent a lot on broken parts replaced with metal, with better servo, batteries, controller, and a very expensive motor, its freaking way too fast tbh, rn the one basher with the fast motor has a broken drivetrain (it broke due to have fast it was spinning, 100km on just rear tyres, lots of torque however) i could switch drive train with another basher but im lazy and dont want to part out a basher but maybe ill find a metal drive train for 23 summer. rc hobby is not cheap, although to save some money you can buy rc parts like metal frames at aliexpress and they do hold up since they are metal, its where i bought pretty much all of my rc parts, the only things i bought at the rc store was batteries, controller, and other things i couldnt find in aliexpress. i do rec going for the mid range rc since they have the most options of upgrading, you can take a mid range and make it a high range through upgrades

  • as an RC enthusiast, I appreciate the breakdown into different categories, but there's more than basher, crawler, and drifter. There's top-speed, indoor/outdoor racing both buggy and truck, there's speed basher like the Felony/Infraction platform, etc. There's a rich cornucopia of platforms and models for just about everyone. And in that vein, for anyone interested in picking up the hobby I'm going to give a piece of sage, probably unpopular advice and pick the most expensive brushless Arrma you can afford. I re-started with a 2WD Granite and after mods spent over $600 not including the LIPO battery or charger (partially for the LULs, but mostly because the parts add up quickly). If you're looking for a short cut and just want to be told what to get, buy an Arrma Big Rock 3S. Very versatile and durable. PS. thank you Donut, for not shilling Traxxas.

  • One type of RC car that wasn't covered is the touring rc like the Traxxas 4tec 2.0. If you want to drift your rc car but don't really care about being precise or don't want to have to always be on a smooth surface, get the 4tec. These are AWD cars and when used with drift tires are a lot of fun to drift on concrete or asphalt at much higher speeds than those dedicated rear wheel cars. And when you're done drifting you can always put on the foam or rubber tires and now you have an on-road car again.

  • Good stuff - I'd throw the the Arrma Granite 3s BLX in the ring as well. $600 or so, but it's a lot more vehicle than the brushed Granite. Also the Granite platform has adjustable preload and proper oil filled shocks - the brushless drivetrain is solid, and it's an absolute blast. Like you suggested for the Lasernut, it's absolutely capable of being upgraded as far as your wallet and interest will take you. My originally brushed base model 4x4 Granite now has an eliminated clutch, steel rear diff and pinion, and a 130 amp 3s drivetrain, and LED lights - with paddle tires on, it will shoot rooster tails through deep powder all day long. You also missed out big on Traxxas' TRX4 offering in the crawler arena, it's got a two speed transmission, locking diffs, and portal axles, again at the $600 price point.

    • My son and I got started in to hobby rc cars early 2020, almost as if we were home a lot and couldn’t go anywhere for the year... Because it’s my son and I, we gotta buy things in 2’s. 2 brushed 2wd Slashes. 2 Slash Ultimates. 2 brushless 4wd Rustlers. Etc. We actually do each have some cars the other does - was just getting too expensive paying 2x the price each time. E-Revo, TRX4, Bandit VXL, and then I bought up a few more 2 and 4wd Slashes used that I’ve modified for either street or heavy bashing. We do have some non-Traxxas vehicles like the kit buggy we built. That costed me more than planned, but the plan was to join the local track for races. My son has amazing car control - he’s kicking my butt. But then we went to an actual race day at our local track - well, race weekend. People showed up in their rvs with the families in tow. Super serious competitors. They come in on Friday and stay through Sunday - like a race weekend at a real track, but these are rc cars! If they’re dropping 6 figures on an rv to get them to these races, I don’t want to know how much they’re spending on their cars. Heck, they throw away their tires after a day of running them! Crazy...

Also, I actually jumped just a little at 9:00 when, suddenly, from behind a boulder, appeared what I initially thought was the head of an excited dog - perhaps a young Rottweiler, I thought, from the few fleeting frames - with excited-dog designs* on either Nolan or the wee Bronco... Then, after two or three times through that section of video, viewing at normal speed, I played it back at half speed. This was because I'm a dork, and I wanted my timestamp to be accurate. The funniest part, in my mind, is that I wasn't in any doubt about the existence of a dog! I wasn't at all considering that anything more would be revealed during a slower play-through of the shot. At long last, on the third or fourth time through, I finally realized the surprise cameo was, well... not a dog at all! *Something along the lines of: bark, chase, chomp, run!
