How to not quit your job
Ex-Google TechLead explains how to have a better time at your job, so that you can avoid quitting it. The fact is that work can be very enjoyable and relaxing, but this requires careful navigation on your part to chart your course. Having quit numerous jobs myself and seeing others quit as well, it is clear to me that we don't quit companies - we quit people. We quit when there are bad managers that we resent, colleagues who we are jealous of when they receive ill-deserved promotions, or when we've just created our own hells through poor lifestyle choices.

My4DGlasses better than that arrogant couch red pill
have you seen BeatTheBush's youtube page? he's like that, as well.
If I were Your colleague I am sure we would have been good friends and supported each other in an alien environment.
That reminds me of Rich Dad Poor Dad.

The less I know about other people's affairs, the happier I am. I'm not interested in caring about people. I once worked with a guy for three years and never learned his name. Best friend I ever had. We still never talk sometimes. - Ron Swanson

I think he likes to film in that place because the "programmers staying in their moms basement" meme
This is probably my favorite KZhead channel by far. Just throwing that out there.
I have a tip. Go outside! Even at the tech company I work at, no one is tying me down into my chair. At 2PM everyday, or when I see on my calendar I have an hour or two of no meetings, I go walk outside even if it is raining. It really helps the internal motivation so when I come back indoors into this god awful fluorescent lighting, my mind is ready to go. Like you said, it also helps disengage with coworkers.... which I whole-heartedly agree is a good idea.
Daily trips outside would make a good tech video blog. FYI
Great video. I loved the part in the beginning about coworkers; it’s so true.
"SF is a garbage pile." -TechLead
Andy Ly he’s right. If you go downtown you see homeless people sleeping in the streets everywhere and the police 👮 don’t do anything.
wtf are they supposed to do with the homeless? make them get a studio for $3000 a month? also, sf doesn't have very many cops. (compared to the size of the city. and in my own experience.)

actually incredible advice, thank you. I've been thinking a lot of the same things
So true! I think this is one of the most honest TechLead videos so far, especially regarding office politics and commute
I LOVE these style of videos. I love to heard other people's insight on this subject.
Really good and sound advice. Much respect.
1. Don't develop relationships with your coworkers, focus on the technology not the people. 2. Remember that you aren't working for the money but for the experiences and stuff you buy with it. Money is just a number in bank account if you don't spend it. 3. Watch you commute. Don't buy a house because it limits you and might make your commute bad. 4. Look at your current job as a chapter which will eventually pass.
5. Buy cattle and go farming - you work for yourself, no commute, no people, no boss - nothing only cow shit to deal with. No ? Then 5. th should be: Dont f* Complain!
5. Manage Expectations. Life isn’t fair.
idk why you are doing this but i read your comments and stop watching. you should put a spoiler alert in
I agree and disagree with #2. Money is just a number, but you shouldnt just spend it. Put it in the market like me.
Yes sir, you are right
This was great!
That is why I work remotely. Focus on the project at hand.
Thot Slayer that would depend on the job and your skill set. The more skill that you have and you can prove it through your work, the chances are very good at getting the remote job that pays well.
What's the best platform to find remote jobs?
All hail the techlead!

"They de-energize me" --- 2:32 LOL
If you disconnect too much from your co-workers, they begin to form tribes and attack your village and resources... Don't get too hard on this one.
Binary Bonanza yea u right. don’t underestimate the power of social networks. U need at minimum a leg in to get the encryption key of the encrypted messages going on around ur environment. U can still be in a social network tho not heavily committed.
Agree. People these days still haven't got their pre-historic hardware updated.
you misunderstood .. he mean that you need to have limits.. don't go so much on their personal life, just go into surface.. because when you're good listener, people tend to like you and share their dark secret . do you get it?
learned a lot from my first job. It got so toxic
But if you interact with these stupid people it really drains your energy, plus gossip, posturing, dominating... The people who look for life and relationships at work, are the ones with whom people prefer not to befriend/form sincere relationship outside of work. The more person tries to drag you into gossiping, into forming clicks, the more disgusting they typically are
this is actually really good advice. nice vid.
Good advice. Thanks.
This is so true. Good tips!

In Spain (Barcelona) is diferent. The rent of the house is very high, and today it's better to buy a house in low neighbourhood and then pay the mortgage. Mortgages are about 400 euros.
Your content has been very helpful. I probably would have spent years chasing the wrong goals if not for these videos.
So true. The description is so on point
I really appreciate your candidness on this episode. Work place and the commute can indeed be quite stressful and ugly sometimes. I switch jobs more than anyone in my circle. Not necessary a best career move, but i feel good every time I start a new job and I feel even better when I leave a shitty boss.
Great thoughts & ideas tech lead!
GREAT VIDEO. Literally all of these points are directly applicable to my current job situation. This was a good morale boost. Thanks!
Thanks again sir Patrick.
