    • Hopefully I will be ready for this soon. Still waiting on the final offer. The sad part is that the VP is on my side even if my supervisor and manager are not. He will be the only one blindsided. The others should be overjoyed. The customers also will be a little hurt. Especially when my manager kills the work I spent my career there developing. I don't really have fantasies of telling off anyone, but as bitter as it sounds, I do wish I could pull the after hours email. I won't, and never could. But that's as close as I get to having cruel fantasies. It makes you look bad to future employers.

    • I am going to struggle with this one. My manager is going on vacation for 2.5 weeks. The VP that is on my side will be filling in for my manager. The new company recommends waiting to resign until the pre-employment requirements are completed. That should be while the manager is on vacation. I will do it in person. But I do feel like the timing is going to be perceived as poorer than just coincidence. The process started weeks ago. He announced his vacation on the same day I signed the new offer. The perception is going to be that I waited until he was gone. I will have to deal with that, but I am not going to wait longer just for him.

  • I think it's absolute b.s. that we have to provide 2 weeks notice to quit but employers don't have to give us notice to fire/lay off/terminate us on the spot

    @geewhiz747@geewhiz7473 жыл бұрын
    • In most places you don’t have to provide any notice at all when you quit a job. Just be sure you haven’t signed an agreement to stay for any length of time. Usually because the company paid for college tuition or training and the employee agrees to work for a certain period of time after they’re out of school. Just because you don’t have to, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give notice though. You look way more professional, it looks better to a prospective employer and you could possibly get rehired if you do give notice.

    • Maybe you can emphasize things you liked about the job without actually praising the company? The toxic period for lasted for about a month each year when I was forced to work with another company that I didn't want to work for; I was the only one in the company forced to do it year after year and they abused me year after year and no matter how well I did at my job, no matter what extra work I took on, no matter my seniority and no matter how many times I suggested it was time for them to find someone else to do it, they refused to stop doing it to me. So the only way I could get that other company out of my life was to quit my year-round job.

I also work in a job where I look like hell by the end of the day as it's very physical. Job interviews after working means I would NOT get the job. • Every job I ever had I quit without having another one lined up. I'm about to do the same here soon! Although I am young and have no financial burdens. It's easy when you're not in debt. There's nothing that makes me smile more than walking out of a place for the last time, with a bit of $$$ saved up, and a reliable vehicle! Especially if it was a crappy job with crappy boses. I enjoy myself. Drive around. Do some sight seeing. Be with family and friends. The feeling of having some money and no time restraints whatsoever is arguably the greatest feeling on earth. How did it go for you? I assume you've already moved on, and got another job? What did you do? What do you do now? Hope you are well!! 😁

There was too much pressure to have long term goals for career before 2020, and most ppl I know are just making a paycheck at this point, even with college degrees. School kind of failed most people unless they are a doctor, lawyer, in IT. But yeah I think quitting without having something lined up means I’m motivated to find the right thing. • I am a month into my new job and I want to quit. I wanted to quit after the first day. A week ago, the general manager walked out and left us in a really bad spot. This is the first time I've ever experienced a manager, let alone the top manager, walk out on the job. The whole place is extremely short-staffed. The morale is non-existent. There's finger-pointing, criticism, and animosity between the employees. Everyone is exhausted and burnt out. I was not properly trained, and so sometimes I make mistakes out of ignorance, and I'm usually ridiculed for it by my coworkers. This is at a nursing home, so there is a part of me that feels this moral obligation to stay for the elderly people. I am at a loss at what to do.

  • I just became a First time Quitter during my career. I voluntary terminated myself when I went to my bosses office and explained I am terminating myself. I worked and adapted to a highly toxic co-worker environment from Day 1 but rode it out until I hit a brick wall mentally. I never experienced this in my entire life, I just could not do the work anymore that was asked of my coworkers/boss. so before anyone else realized this and ended my tenure that day. I reviewed my employment contract, stating at-will meaning either you or company can terminate contract at any time for any reason, with or without cause. I dont like being a quitter, but I did not want to leave any negative impressions in the office. A two-week notice in my situation was not an option since I was already in shut down mode already and needed to take action quickly. I called a longtime friend of mine before I quit to get his take on this and asked he me this question. Will you eat the next day after you quit? I said yes. And his answer was to drop this position like a Hot Potato!

Focusing exit conversations with my team and other teammates on the positive aspects of my new opportunity, helps to keep the conversation on track and entirely positively focused. I believe in a short, positive, and professional email to your boss and their boss and perhaps HR so multiple people are aware and can plan ahead.

  • With all due respect, but I don’t really care too much for 2 week notices. Especially when it’s a job that you hate with an absolute passion. If it stresses you out constantly, also plays with your mental health you need to leave ASAP. Also these so called “Managers” don’t even appreciate 2 week notices anymore. Once they find out that you are planning on leaving they start to act funny, also talk crazy about you behind your back. For example “Oh I’m glad he’s leaving, he was getting lazy anyway, we’re better off.” And this I know for sure because I witnessed this with my own eyes with an old coworker years ago.

I work at a supply chain company, as a warehouse associate I like my operations manager and I think we cool based on past conversations, but still a bit concerned about him keeping things confidential and not saying anything to other members of management supervisors and team Leaders. I don't think he will, but it still a bit of risk. And in terms of my HR Generalist I don't or haven't talked to her too much, but I think she will definitely keep things more confidential, although I'm not sure how to write a resignation letter towards her, or if its weird. As my operations manager more present on the warehouse floor majority of the time. Lastly, can I choose who I want to inform regarding my departure from the company?
