  • I don't like laptop's keyboard when I do coding that's why I always bring with me wireless keyboard. I use Logitech K295 silent keyboard + mouse combo. It has old-school style of keys - separate arrows, big Enter, etc. It takes only one USB port, and batteries - I even don't remember when I changed them last time. I place my laptop on a pile of books or some box to raise it to level of my eyes and type on the keyboard standing on the table. So the laptop is about 15 cm above table level. That greatly improves my posture and reduces fatigue during the day.

  • I used to live like this for years. It's fun for a while. But lugging a backpack around gets old too. The other problem with the nomad capitalist lifestyle is that, if you're always just going where you're most welcome, then you never feel any commitment to evolve the place where you are. Since we have no attachment to the blood and soil, then we don't care if our people and our homeland thrives or burns. I think this explains part of the problems currently happening to the USA. Everyone sees it as just an opportunity to exploit for personal gain, and not as a nation worth developing.

    @Ton369@Ton369 Жыл бұрын
    • No. If you are tied, it means communism. If you can chose between two shops, that are independent of each other, in which to buy your groceries, you create competition, thus they will evolve.

    • The Kalergi mix makes people stressed. 200 years ago people had 50 relatives living 5 km away from them. They had somebody to rely on when they got trouble. They did not depend on a boss, that can fire them whenever he wants. Cities are population sinks, just like they were 2000 years ago too.

  • Woah, a lot of words spoken and a lot of truths told, but I have slightly different view on the subject of living like a nomad vs settling down. Yes going anywhere and working from anywhere sounds exotic and fun, but with time maybe it will tire people. Kings build those castles yeah, but they were allowed to leave. Maybe I don't feel like traveling a million miles, maybe I have a home and backyard where I can breath fresh air and put my toughts together. If you like Itally then have a nice stay there, if you like your home then it's your choice. To me it's equal, because it's about how it's making you feel and not living it because of somebody else.

  • Been thinking about this for a while after just moved again with all furniture and crap. Not liking my new apartment due to all the noise etc, neighbors that have zero respect etc. been like that most places. And moving again is such a hassle. So many times I been thinking about just selling almost everything and buying a camper so I can decide where I live. Thinking about taking up education again where I can take a job anywhere in the world.

    @nivity@nivity Жыл бұрын
    • I've decided to move again for this reason. It drives me crazy. I moved into a place that looked nice, but every single neighbor has zero respect. Every new neighbor, the first thing they do after moving in is starting blasting whatever random thing they are watching on Netflix. Looking to go minimalist and rent something either far away or like a in-law suite type place that has no adjoining units.

  • A capsule hostel is exactly the way you should go if you’re gonna rent. Take advantage of the lower cost, and even the social advantages of having a ton of apt mates. In the states just get a room in a house with a bunch of college students. That’s what I’m doing and I’m spending only a tiny % of my income on living expense.. as it should be. The worst possible option is to have a big fancy apt, where the main goal of your life has now become to make rich real estate moguls even more rich.

  • It's easy to travel like this when you are successful IT specialist with remote job and without kids and working spouse. Otherwise, you have to have a base and be there for a most of the time. Therefore, if you are young and theoretically can afford this lifestyle - go for it! Try it now or you will never be able try it later. If you are a student - try to achieve this lifestyle after graduation. I wish I'd travel more when I was young and single.

I have settled down now with a family for some time but when my children will live their own life I don't want to stay here in a big house, lots of responsibility, lots of maintenance, lots of bills to be paid - I am also open for a nomadic life (as a developer), maybe in Italy, maybe Greece, maybe somewhere else (but I try to learn the language of that country so Europe as a destination as a german developer is easier for me).
