Plans to stop young people born since 2009 ever smoking are being debated and will be voted on later.
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's bill aims to create the country's first smoke-free generation in a major public health intervention.
The Tobacco and Vapes Bill would ensure anyone turning 15 from this year would be banned from buying cigarettes, and also aims to make vapes less appealing to children.
But a number of Tory MPs have told the BBC they won't back the bill.

Should work well just like the ban on knives, guns and drugs etc
Lol. True. Totally unenforceable
@@RogerMellie-yk3gw Well they'll still be allowed to smoke, just not buy cigarettes. If someone wants to buy cigarettes for them then that would be legal.
@@Yimello I doubt that would be legal. They'd clearly mske that illegal too
If it weren't banned then it would be far worse. I am for this ban. I care for all the children. So many will be saved but yes many of the really disobedient will still do it and that's up to them but so many children will find it too much of a hassle or will think wait, why is it banned it must be really bad. I'm glad guns are banned and we are not like America. Eventually fags will be totally fazed out and will be like weed.
the government is dumb if that ban goes through like 50% of people smoke lol so 50% of people about to get pissed I'm the nicest guy in the world but I'd fight them for it. Cigarettes due to my anxiety is the only reason i xan live life happily and problem free, They never think about people like me , I'm a people too you know 😅

plastic probably
Wokeium - very dangerous and highly addictive.
Child's blood
Billionnaire Man-meat.
Mainly crack. And some of king Charles' pubes.
All im gonna say is, be prepared for an increase in taxes somewhere. The amount of money the goverment is going to loose overtime will be made up else where.
Smoking costs the NHS billions every year so if people stop smoking yes the government will lose out on tax but they'll save money from all the treatments.
You will save money on healthcare
@@davidtiberghien2879 Smokers pay a huge amount through tobacco taxation. They pay billions into the economy. They more than pay their way in society for smoking. If anything, we should ban alcohol. I think the cost of taxation on alcohol covers the medical related issues (which are just as bad as smoking). What about the rest of the negatives? Alcohol should be banned before smoking should. shameful for this country becoming slavery prisons awful and awful country and dangerous for freedom of Europe
Now UK desperately needs a ban on littering, with real enforcement!
That's ageism. They still want to profit from excise taxes instead of banning smokes outright.
And next will be a rule that states you can only have 3 pints in the pub. You can only go out twice a month. You are allowed one pair of shoes per year. Keep your hair short blah blah blah It’s getting like North Korea. If people want to smoke, they will, and no government should have the powers to stop you. People will just sit back and accept it.

Why not ban 'unhealthy' food? Heart disease and obesity kills more people than smoking.
I feel like alcohol does more damage to peoples health, families and friendships.
If they ban cigarettes then they need to ban unhealthy food since cardiac diseases are the no.1 killer in the UK
You are right, many things are bad for us, it just boils down to lifestyle choices. But the grim reaper gets to us all one way or another in the end.
@@Shaun137That's why personal choices shouldn't be prohibited
I think the best way to ban smoking is by making it uncool, just like smoking became "cool" because cool movie characters did it, we should try to promote the uncoolness of smoking in the same way.
You are right. Movies have a great way to change people's mind..
instead of teaching elementary school kids about questioning wheither they are a boy or a girl, the should be teaching and showing them videos of the effects of smoking and taking drugs!!
Okay. If it's movie set in the 70s or previously though... what are they supposed to do. Not show it....Almost everyone smoked back then. To be fair it was seeing my friends smoke that I started. Then gave up at 17 in the 80s.
@@fji30595 Banning smoking in public places worked very well.

The main reason for banning smoking is the cost to the NHS. Best option would be to make people pay for treatment for smoking related health issues.😊
I imagine the issue there would be proving ur issue was smoke related. Some people never smoke a cigarette in their life and yet develop lung cancer

That’ll probably end up happening here in the uk too
Let people do what they want when they are old enough it's a free country
America took that approach and deal with school shootings every other day
1950s - tobacco smoking good; marijuana smoking bad. Today - tobacco smoking bad; marijuana smoking good. Common sense - ANY kind of smoking = bad.
Nope marijuna bad in UK. And rightly so. Theyre both bad
People should have the right to smoke weed if they want. Weed makes you think, while alcohol makes you stop thinking. Here's a question, would you rather walk past a bunch of guys who are really drunk or really stoned? There is a reason why nearly all police officers don't have a problem with weed, especially when you compare it to the likes of alcohol and cocaine. The biggest thing of all, weed can't kill you and can't cause any serious physical damage. While again alcohol destroys your body.
Shhhhhh
@Emtrax. Clearly you take weed because it makes you paranoid and makes you believe it makes your far more intelligent when really it makes you write dumb arse comments like your own.
@@Emtrax. The problem with this argument, is that 99% of drinkers dont drink to get drunk, but practically all smokers want to get high as a kite. And weed does damage, ive seen it
Let people do what they want don't tell people they can't smoke if someone wants to smoke let them smoke
Same argument could be said about suicide
You would have to police this properly. Otherwise I feel like this would open up a black market, where kids will find ways to obtain it when it's not regulated, and end up with laced items with who knows what. You know what would actually end this? Raise prices. Make it hard to pay for. And run ads where you compare the prices/money wasted VS what they could be using that money for instead. And if that doesn't work, give incentives for not smoking. Give tax incentives for youth who proclaim they don't smoke and run programs for youth/festivals where the common theme is no smoking, and use the money you're bound to save on a decrease in hospital visits to pay for it.
It's already begun. People are stocking up, getting clients ready and setting prices as we speak
You can't police it. Has any country in history managed to police drugs or if existence? Was temperance successful in the US? Did it fail so miserably that they just had to start a worldwide war on drugs that has only served to make criminals wealthy? Did we think it was such a good way to waste money that we just had to trump them by banning tobacco?
Under no circumstances would it be legal nor democratic to have, one day, a 30-years-old British citizen or a UK resident able to buy a product and at the very same time a 29-years-old citizen unable legally to buy tobacco. It's an absolute madness!
Don't let the government fool you that they care about anyone's health .. alcohol kills far more through abuse , drink driving etc etc ......
Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't, but it's irrelevant to whether smoking should be legal or not.
No it doesn't

Which is hypocritical since they then hold you liable for things, when the government already has deemed you too stupid to make choices for yourself.
@CarlyHawthorne-lp2wl Good point! I used "their body" though. But I agree that if a reasonable amount of smoke gets into another persons lungs the punishment should be a big fine or even jail time if the person in question is a repeat offender.

@passerby4507 All drugs should be decriminalised since criminalising their use leads people chasing legal highs, which are way more harmful. There is no possible way they can ban flavours unless they plan to ban a lot of other items unrelated to vaping. Firstly, you can mix your own flavours and there a multiple websites showing recipes. All you need to do is buy a few litres of VG or PG liquid (or preferably both or premixed). This is unflavoured E-Liquid that contains no nicotine (so cannot possibly be banned under this new legislation). Then either buy some concentrate (do that now to save hassle if they start waving around a ban hammer) or mix yourself flavours from many online recipe groups. Simply then add nicotine shots to bring the hit you desire and boom... Government fails again to ban something which can be made at home... they are useless!

An ban on tobacco products would be a better solution. It is concistent with the ban on addictive drugs.
It's an odd approach to banning smoking. But the argument that centre around personal freedoms are deeply flawed. We're not free to do tons of things: attack people, steal their stuff, etc. I don't see why it's such a difficult concept for some to accept that maybe people shouldn't be free to profit from a highly addictive product that has been proven beyond all doubt to do so much harm to people's health. The difference between the health of my mum and my aunt who are sisters two years apart is crazy. My aunt is the older, and she is so fit and active still, yet my mum can barely walk any distance, and it's all because her lungs are so damaged from 50 years of smoking. And even though she's managed to quit, she'll never recover. It was a decision she made when she was still a child, and probably her biggest regret. It was her own choice, but I personally think it should never have been one that was made so easy to take.
Cheers for sharing that though! Still people are already aware of certain smoking dangers and shouldn't have to be patronised not to smoke by these bloody Tories!
