A look inside Russia, where men are being conscripted as part of Putin’s “partial mobilization” to fight in the war in Ukraine, shows fear, grief and anger.

    • Funny how much fuss the western and European media makes of Russia's partial mobilization. They show protests and arrests and crying but won't state the facts. Although 7,000 - 10,000 have been arrested for protesting over 175,000 - 200,000 men have already accepted reality and been mobilized and are at training facilities. That's 2/3rds of the 300k Putin wanted. In one week....

    • That is true, and it is a sad chapter in American history, Pablo Jacobo. One of my younger brothers was drafted during the Vietnam war, toward the end of it, but he served in his tour of duty in Germany and South Korea. What is happening in Russia is worse than Vietnam. The so-called draft is supposed to be limited to people who have had prior military experience, but it is quite evident based on reports coming out of Russia including video statements by the family members of men being rounded up and shipped off on buses to who knows where that many of the men had NO military experience at all and we know, based upon reports of other Russian troops who were captured or surrendered to the Ukrainians that many of the "volunteers" who signed up for brief one year tours of duty for up to $5,000 a month (which they never receive, but that's another story) in many cases received less than a week's training! How a decent military leader send anybody into a war zone with less than a week's training - and of course we saw what happened with the Russian's logistics problems. Do you think anything is going to change now? Putin is hoping his false annexation of Ukrainian land and his threat to use nuclear weapons if Ukrainians "invade" the annexed territory will scare Ukraine and the rest of the world off. He's trying to buy time and hoping for a long brutal winter so that Europeans will be cold because of the lack of and high price of natural gas and other fuels and going broke because of the cost of foods, etc. Some "experts" are claiming that these new Russian "conscripts" won't be sent to the Ukrainian front to fight until spring so they will receive a lot of training. Don't bet on that!!! Cannon fodder. Putin doesn't give a DAMN about the Russian people, he'd as soon kill them all off before acknowledging that he has lost the war.

What do the Russians have to show for allowing Putin to control things & ruin their democracy? Nothing.
