Check out current price & sales of the Legion 7i: geni.us/UTIYS I think this is the biggest laptop review I've ever made, there was just so many important things to cover!
Make more videos on desktop pcs components and building desktop pcs please, just a suggestion,we would love to see those type of videos, by the way love you man
Thanks for the comprehensive review Jarrod
You are the best in this Job. Thanks to you a bought Legion 7i gen 6 last year. It's a beast
What about the power indicator? I didn't see it glowing. Does it glow or you have switched it off?
i recently got this laptop last week and with latest NVIDIA drivers do work with displays on the left usb c ports
Brilliant addition Jarrod, just brilliant, that you are letting us know whether dual sided SSD can fit in the laptop.... Thanks so much for that!
No problem 👍
Lenovo is improving their laptops by listening to the reviews of Jarord. That's why they are becoming everyone's favourite 😍
true, thankfully I bought the Legion 5. I was about to buy Predar Helios 300 and saw his review
Yeah, after fucking over thousands of customers
@@sapnupuas6200 I bought a Helios 300, 17.3 qhd, 12700h, 3070ti 150w and it had horrible quality control, trackpad loose and rattling, awful backlight bleeding and IPS glow, the first unit even had burned pixels. The second unit had the same loose trackpad and even worse IPS glow and backlight bleeding so I've returned it. I'll wait for 2023 laptops with mini led screens or oled, even Acer has mini led on the 2023 Helios so I might get back to them if not just go for Lenovo or Asus
@@Super01041994 good choice!

I second that!

Last year it was much better than Asus, but this year asus rog took its place

@@apathy1128 why low resolutions make it better
I have been watching Jarrod's review videos for the past three months and decided to buy mine over Labor Day weekend. It's been several years since I've bought a new laptop (my 7 year old dell xps 13 9350 needed a break) and so far, I absolutely love it. I knew it would review well!
Great to hear!
It is really nice that Jarrod actually listenes to what people are interested in. Respect for your work and your attention to detail.
Lenovo Legion toolkit toolkit is a utility that can replace Lenovo Vantage software with a lighter weight non login utility. That software allows you to setup the automatic Refresh rate change when you unplug the laptop
if it can control RGB I will consider
@@jajaboss I think it now can.
A dope laptop for sure, but the 2021 RTX 3080 models can be bought for much cheaper and the difference in features/performance just doesn’t seem to justify this unless you absolutely need the CPU. The review was awesome though, loved the attention to detail and calling out the bugs/quirks.
what we need this powerful cpu for? even threadripper is overkill for any thing
@@Birdman._. In spider man on the MSI GT77 with 12900HX and 3070ti, I got almost 70% more FPS (especially the 99%) than I do on my Legion 2021 with 11800H/3070. This is ALL because of the cpu.. Believe it or not, AAA titles in the future will perform radically better with 12th gen onwards. 13th gen will up this again. People using 10900K overclocked to over 5GHZ were shocked how a newer gen CPU at lower clock speed was thrashing it in a couple modern games, using the exact same GPU. In my case, a 140w 3070 to 150w 3070ti does not have such a massive FPS difference, if anything I could have maybe expected 10% difference at the most if it was relying on GPU only. It was all about the CPU with spider man. You can see the massive usage on the 11800H, 70% cpu for most of the game, 4.3ghz, 75 to 80 degrees on the Legion 7i 2021. That's how CPU hungry that game is.
I got the 2021 3080 model and returned it for the new 2022 model for the new fingerprint reader, better heat management, better keyboard travel, nicer case and lighting. The cost was about 500 more but I got more storage and the newer CPU. Worth it for me, love the new model a lot more.
@@trentgt I really hope the performance anomaly here is corrected.. Under base clock when gaming is insane. I've never heard of that before this review. The GT77 with same CPU is around 4.1 ghz when the GPU is loaded, and 3.8 when GPU 100% loaded, vs 1.95 on CPU speed here.. that's just too low. It would be good if you could test yours with a monitoring tool like afterburner when you have the time.
To add to this point, I bought a used Legion 7 (5900HX/3080) about 4 months ago for $1800. The fps in games is nearly identical, and being AMD the battery life is like doubled (disabling iCue of course) and runs very well at lower wattages. I would gladly do that again over buying one of these new for a few minor enhancements. 2023 will likely be a very different story though with the introduction of 40 series GPU’s and AMD 7000 / Intel 13th Gen.
Finally, I have waited 4 months for this review. Thank you, Jarod for the in depth review.
I've bought the AMD powered MSI Delta and ASUS Strix G15 with the RAM swaps due to your videos and I love them both. Can't wait to see what your review reveal with the next gen hardware coming to mobile next year!
I bought last year rtx 3070 ryzen 7 5800h, 32gb ram for 1700 € 10 months ago and it absolutely kills everything, what an amazing machine.
Same here. Only difference is that ive paid 1580€ for it.
Me too but my problem with newer legion laptops are the lack of RGB.
How you are able to record a 37 minute video with such detail is amazing
Love the gaming + streaming test benchmark! Would love to see this in your future videos!!
Thank you! I feel like we’ve been a pain in the ass for months asking about this in every video for the last couple of months.
lol. There were definitely a lot of comments about it, that's for sure!
About to go on underways and deployments soon, I ordered one and opted only for 1TB so I can max out my other slot ! Thanks for the great reviews!
I did like you included the streaming/obs benchmarks, hope you continue to do it!
This is the only laptop review that lasted for nearly 40min that didn't skip a second. Love the video! And yes, I'd like to see more data and testings with how laptops these days can handle gaming whilst streaming.
Great review as usual. Can't wait for the Legion 5 video!
Great review Jarrod, I would love to see if you compare numbers btw last years legion 7 and the new one to see if is worth to upgrade
Great review, Jarrod. Appreciate all the hard work!
I wanted to buy a new gaming laptop and after some research and seeing your videos decided to buy a legion5 and I'm very happy with my choice. The keyboard feels realy good and hinge is realy good and smooth design is good, port layout the best I ever seen and full power 3060 works like a champ. Thanks for your recommendation and reviews❤❤❤❤
I would love to see more gaming and streaming test results in your already-brilliant reviews. ^_^
I saw this laptop for the first time on Facebook and I was really impressed and of course I also liked the Internal storage processor and the style of this laptop, it's really cool to look at and because of this Laptop I'm even more inspired. work abroad 🥰
THANK YOU FOR THE INFO !! great content and one of the most exact and objective channels m watching currently respect 31:38 yeah this test is one of my concerns a lot since a lot of people right now think of a laptop as a replacement of the desktop ; the ability to streams and game or do whatever is a "question mark" since no one really mention it soo it s a good thing that you are !! keep the great content
I actually downloaded the Legion Zone app now, you can change the modes like in the Vantage app, but other things things ofc I didnt understand :D Cheers Jarrod, keep up the good work!
Hey Jarrod, Do you have all you previous test data to compare older generations with new gen? I think it would be interesting to see all of the laptops you have tested over the years in one place. Keep up the good work, Cheers, Sam
Masterclass review, this review had me go buy this exact setup and glad I did,its a very premium laptop,,Thankyou for this brilliant review😊
It should be mentioned that there is still a distinct possibility that the Lenovo Legion 7i will get the much touted mini-LED screen... All Lenovo Legion 7i pages for region Europe (EU + UK) explicitly list three screen options, including the mini-LED screen. The Lenovo Legion 7i pages for region Eurasia (Russia, India, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, etc) only show the two regular (165&240Hz) screen options, minus the mini-LED screen. The Lenovo Legion 7i pages for all the core Anglosphere countries (USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand) only show a single screen option, the regular 165Hz screen. Other regions/countries: The Lenovo Legion 7i page for South Africa only shows the two regular screen options (165&240Hz), minus the mini-LED screen. The Lenovo Legion 770i page for Japan (the corresponding Japanese model number for the 7i) only shows one screen option, the regular 165Hz screen. Maybe a formality but the spec sheet includes the disclaimer: “Specifications may vary depending on region/model”, leaving the possibility that the mini-LED screen option may not (for whatever reason) be rolled out in all regions. Listed spec sheet display options for Legion 7i in region Europe (EU + UK): •16″ Mini-LED, WQXGA (2560 x 1600) IPS, 1250 nits, 16:10 aspect ratio, 165Hz refresh rate (3ms response time), 100% DCI-P3, 100% Adobe sRGB, up to VESA DisplayHDR™ 1000 Certified, Dolby Vision® support, TÜV Rheinland® certified •16″ WQXGA (2560 x 1600) IPS, 500 nits, 16:10 aspect ratio, 165-240Hz VRR (3ms response time), 100% sRGB, up to VESA DisplayHDR™ 400 certified, Dolby Vision® support, NVIDIA® G-SYNC® support, TÜV Rheinland® certified •16″ WQXGA (2560 x 1600) IPS, 500 nits, 16:10 aspect ratio, 165Hz (3ms response time), 100% sRGB, up to VESA DisplayHDR™ 400 Certified, Dolby Vision® support, NVIDIA® G-SYNC™ support, TÜV Rheinland® certified Additional 4th display option for Legion Slim 7i (only with i5/i7 CPU:s): •16″ WUXGA (1920 x 1200) IPS, 350 nits, 16:10 aspect ratio, 165hz refresh rate, 100% sRGB, LBL 2.6t bent
my guess is that it’s gonna be the same panel as the one in ROG Flow X16
@@btkt6464 Can't imagine there being too many 16" mini-LED WQXGA 16:10 165Hz 3ms panels available right now so you're almost certainly right. Is it any good? I guess I'll have to check out some reviews of the ROG Flow X16 to find out 😉

I'm happy with my Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 2021 which I purchased based on this channel's review! :)
Actually the exact sponsor product I needed! I want a BIG watt type c charger for my future laptop
Hey Jarrod, thanks for all the very in-depth reviews! But can you tell me why are so less people complaining about the bad efficiency/battery life of heavier gaming laptops in battery mode? I mean Lenovo proved that they can indeed do better even on the power hungry intel models with the Slim 7i Gen 7. I recently purchased this Legion 7i Gen 7 with 12800HX and a 3070 Ti 99wh battery and i absolutely loved it. My idea was that it can replace both my gaming pc and my office laptop and well.. combine to a premium machine which can do both. But i was wrong, while it is a very good desktop replacement and has more than enough gaming horsepower the office use it pretty underwhelming. 1-4h of battery life because the cpu won't consume less than 3w no matter how idle the system is and also spike to 15-20 watt opening chrome. Nothing running in the background at all, no processes, just pure windows. Already updated Bios, Drivers, tested the stock OS the laptop came with, did a manual clean windows install with only the necessary drivers, even activated ASPM in advanced bios, tested custom throttlestop and windows power panagement profiles, switched between balanced and quiet mode and so on. Nothing helped. What comes on top of that: The laptop just gets unnecessary warm and the fins are spinning all the time. I was so disappointed that companies to this date don't care about efficiency at all. My office laptop with 5800H can achieve over 10H of battery life out of the box with only a 80wh battery. Ryzens are more efficient than intels but the L7 All AMD doesn't last that much longer compared to the Slim one. I would wish that people with some influence like you would point those things out and somehow push the companies to actually care. Like Linus from LTT did with the windows sleep problem where it consumes a lot of battery. I wish i just could use a macbook pro, but i need CAD and gaming, so windows is the only option.
You are SO good at this. Thanks Jarred.
I love Lenovo and am still super happy with my Legion 7i from early 2021. It’s crazy to see how much more performance they’re able to pack into laptops nowadays. Jarrod another great review!

Can't wait for the comparison with the amd advantage legion 7. These 2 are sitting in my cart now waiting for me to decide. Likely better compares to the 3070ti version of the 7i though.
The streaming test was awesome. You should change the settings to 1080p - 6000k bitrate though.
Thanks for the great reviews! Excellent work.
Excellent review! Hope you can compare this with the legion 7 amd advantage edition. Keep it up!
The AMD model is out of stock. I don't think they have an ETA for when it will be back in stock unfortunately.
I just recently got the Legion 7 Gen 6 from last year and it is a great laptop but I do wish I knew about the PCI 1 SSD issue when I ordered it. I ordered 2x 4TB m.2 and I could not fit it because of that cable. Was an upsetting moment. Ended up keeping the included SSD, moving windows over to the internal 4TB SSD I installed, and putting the other 4TB drive in an external enclosure that is basically always connected for work files. Not super happy but honestly still happy I got the Legion 7 as it is a beast of a machine. Do hope they eventually move that cable though so larger drives can be installed.
Amazing Video Jarrod ! Could you please whether an Asus Tuf Dash or Hp Omen 16 Gaming Laptop will be good or the Lenovo Legion 5i ?
The streaming test is an awesome one. Very much appreciated.
Thanks a lot for the video jarrod, I have a weird request. I usually get my laptops from the US shipped with MYUS and wanted to ask if you can weight laptops in their retail packaging so it helps making decisions. Thanks a lot
great review again! are you also gonna review the legion 7 2022 AMD version?
the good thing about intel laptops is that you can use quicksync for streaming and let your gpu free to be used 100% for the game only
Best review..i always love how jarrod reviews gaming laptops
Lenovo legion 7i my dream laptop I always watch videos on it And always want to get my hands on any of the series . Great review keep up the good work
Great review as usual! Very detailed and in-depth, which I've come to expect. Love all the info you give in your reviews. Would like to see reviews on the more mid-range models like the 3070/3070ti versions too, though. I think more people are likely to buy those rather than the maxed out version. Things like build quality etc. would still apply but I think a minority of people are going to actually buy the 3080ti version so the results of the game performance tests etc. won't really apply to the majority of the consumer base.
Mid-range would be Legion 5 15 and Legion 5 Pro with 3070 Ti, not Legion 7.
For sure in my country is over 4700 euro for comparison a maxxed out legion 5i pro is about 2700....think it's not worth for a small performance difference (according to these benchmarks) and better chassis
LOL, that's still hundreds of dollars more than I can afford
Those shiny brushed edges look very beautiful on the new Legions
Thank you so much for the incredibly detailed review first and specifically adding the Linux Support section. Really the most helpful review I have found. PS: In Flames! Hell yeah!

It’s really a shame that the new 7i pro this year is much worse in features and built quality.

So I've already got the laptop I wanted (3050ti 2021 flow x13, great pick, unless 300nit screen is a dealbreaker for you, then get 2022 model instead) But my point is, I still watch your videos because of how well made, informative, thorough and entertaining they are. And if I'm gonna need to buy another laptop or recommend one, you're probably my first stop for a review. So keep it up man, I'm sure you're helping many people make the best out of their money.
Thanks! I'm glad their useful!
I have this model, version with 12800hx and 3070 ti,and when G-Sync is activated in many games stuttering occurs, especially in Horizon Zero Dawn. The temperatures are decent, although it is paradoxical because in the afterburner they do not exceed 80 degrees CPU and 76-78 GPU but the case and the keyboard "burn" very hard! The same thing happens with the battery, it gets very hot, once I received a warning about the fact that it is "very hot"... interesting! The keyboard is not what it seems at first glance (especially when you compare it with last year's model), it suffers from the same problem as last year's 5 Pro, more precisely, when you press a key, you can see that the surrounding ones are also moving! This problem even you, Jarrod, highlighted it last year in a video comparing the two, 5Pro and 7 respectively! The display (and this by comparison with Legion 7 2021) is not really that "vivid" colored and when displaying black it doesn't seem as consistent... well it's a BOE what you would expect! Last year it was they used CSOT and I didn't think, they were better. And there is more to be said, but the comment is getting too long...but in short, I think that no, it is not a laptop that deserves to be taken into account, and in terms of the price, and under these conditions, I am still crying after last year's (Legion 7 11980hk 3080 16Gb) over which I spilled beer...lots of beer!Aaaaand one more thing, stuttering appeared on last year's model when G-Sync was activated (which indicates that it is a problem with Lenovo) but, if we install the 511.79 driver, the problem disappears completely! Something that is not valid on the 2022 version, the most " old" driver that you can install is v 512.13.
bro this legion 7i with vapor chamber or not?
Hey! Great video! Just wanted to mention in the audio at 2:34 that you say under 2.8 lbs instead of 8.2 lbs. But the on screen text and captions say 8.2 lbs. I just did a small double take at it but otherwise super informative and this is one of my top choices! Have a great day :)

Unfortunately, there have been huge wait times on Legions for about 12 months. Hope you get yours soon!
Such a nice computer . I looked at a m16 at Best Buy in person . Then went over the the legion 5 from 2021 at the same store the legion felt so much better and much more solid
anyway that's very nice laptop and maybe the best in class. waiting to see your review on ryzen version of this and maybe lenovo adding oled screen in next years
Hello, Jarrod! I hope you would reply. What software do you use and which data are you looking at to monitor the temperatures for all your laptops? When I look at afterburner, the temps are way higher. But when I look at HWinfo, specifically the cpu package temp avg, it's much lower.
Please continue the "Streaming While Gaming" test. Thanks for the review
I'm super happy with mine, one of the reasons i choose Lenovo is that they do not use any PWM in either the backlight or RGB so no flickering to those who are sensitive for it. Great review 👍🏻
The KB RGB has a lot of bleed for me, i.e. the keys aren't sealed properly. When I am in bed watching a movie I have to turn it off as there are leaking bright spots that blind me (figure of speech). I really hope they have fixed it in the new 7i. Even on the lowest brightness, the bulb light would shine through in my eyes. MSI GT77 has the same issue. Razer, Asus and Alienware do not.
Nice review I wanna buy gaming laptop with 3070ti what laptops do you recommends ?
Bro, on the last video I mentioned the 5 pro 3070 ti 16 inch…… ryzen 7 6800h this Machine is insane in performance and nobody has this model on KZhead. Would love your input on it. Great content nonetheless
I've just ordered the AMD version and started looking for a type C charger to make it more mobile. I emailed Lenovo to ask whether there is any approved type C charger , their response was: "Unfortunately, there are not." So not sure what charger to get or what its affect will be on the battery over time🙈
The double-side nvme ssd is a known issue across Legion laptop 2020 onwards. You can only install single-sided ssd to replace the primary slot, check out ssd review like tomhardware or manufacturer specs to see if the one you’re buying is double or single sided
Hey Jarrod, Do you know if there is liquid metal used on this model?
I like it that you have reviewed this laptop with streaming stats, I hope you can also do it with the ge67
Unfortunately, I can't do it with models I've already reviews as I don't have them anymore, but I might make it something I do regularly for future reviews.
How does opening it up compare to the AMD L7 (2021)? I think reviewers did a disservice glossing over how impossible prying that thing open is.
I have been waiting for this one and I am so happy right now. Thanks man! Also what do you think i7-12800hx and RTX3070Ti version of this gen7? Do you recommend it?

Been waiting a while for this one to see if it’s worth the upgrade from my gen 6. Thank you for the in depth review!
What do you think?
@@blackakuma tough call. Upgrades like the fingerprint scanner, 12th gen he processor, ddr 5 ram and bigger battery are great but I got mine on sale for around $2k with 3080 so close to $4k for maybe 15 fps more when I’m already way above 60fps 1600p maxed graphics on everything I’ve played? I’ll hold off and see how the gen 8 with the 4xxx series rtx and see how much of a bump in performance it sees. My biggest draw is seeing if they fixed the advance Optimus issue my gen 6 has where when it switches automatically to the 3080 there is a consistent, repeatable and very distracting frame skipping every couple seconds. Makes it unusable so I just keep it in discrete mode at all times.
@@metalistic1 I see. I have the legion 7 gen 6 3080 as well. I think my expectation of any laptop playing AAA games at 120fps maxed out 1440p should be reserved. Well thank you for helping me with that decision. 🤝

🤘
It would be nice if you could also review the full amd version of the Legion 7 with the radeon rx 6850m XT.
Great review. I've been waiting for this one. Just got my 7i gen 7 recently and I love all the changes from the gen 6.
@@TravisTheSavage I think BHPhoto is the only place you can get the 7i w/ 3080Ti right now. It's on sale for $3099. The price went up $50 from last week.
Can you please review the legion 5 pro amd version? Haha i know you reviewed the imtel version but i wanna see you review the amd one. Thanks!
i had the legion 5 and i recently switched to legion 7i and in terms of gaming it didnt change much. i have the amd version for both of em and still battery life was a big problem. my main reason was to use it for uni work and in terms of performance its brilliant, but its quite heavy and the battery doesnt last long when using chemsketch or other study related software. in the end i had to buy a low end chromebook for my studies as it was quite impossible to commute to my uni everyday with extra 3 kgs on my back.
What is the battery life of legion 7i
@@krithikrajavelu6096 when I play games like cyberpunk, FIFA 23 it lasts for 3/4h. For softwares like word, excel and stuff usually 5/6h. If you have a long uni day you have to bring your charger, which is heavy.
@@mambonero9689 thank you 👍
@@mambonero9689 you have the AMD version of the legion 7 right?
First of all brilliant review. Loved it. Seen your video about the difference between the i7 and i9 CPUs and how they are very similar in terms of performance. Can you summarise what the difference between the Intel® Core™ i9-12900HX and Intel® Core™ i7-12800HX, in terms of temperatures produced and battery life on this Legion 7i laptop ? Appreciate there’s a lot of variables but would the i7 offer better temperatures and battery life if it’s not running at the same performance level as the i9 ? Many thanks
Great review! Thanks
