Cruz vs Gamboa FULL FIGHT: April 16, 2022 | PBC on Showtime PPV

(April 16, 2022) Lightweight contender Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz drops former unified featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa three times en route to a violent, fifth-round stoppage.
Lightweight contender Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz proved his impressive performance against three-division champion Gervonta Davis last December wasn’t a fluke. In a dominant, knockdown-filled performance, Cruz dropped the proud former unified featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa four times en route to a dominant fifth-round stoppage of Gamboa in the co-main event.
A monster left-right hand combination from Cruz sent Gamboa careening into the ropes, causing the referee to wave the bout off at 1:32 of the round of the scheduled 10-round lightweight bout. Cruz threw 36 power punches per round landing an average of 11 per round.
“I’m here to defeat and dethrone anyone that gets in my way while putting on a show for the fans,” Cruz said. “I wanted to send a clear message to the division that I’m here to be a world champion no matter what. Mexico, just wait until we arrive. We have something special planned for you when we come back to celebrate.”
Cruz (23-2-1, 16 knockouts) hurt Gamboa with a big left hook early in the first round. Gamboa stumbled back against the ropes, his balance off, legs wobbly and held on to survive the remainder of the round.
Cruz dropped Gamboa (30-5, 18 knockouts) with a right-left combo with seconds left in the second round that buckled Gamboa’s legs and caused him to touch the canvas.
Cruz jumped him to start the third, knocking him down again seconds into the frame with a left hook. But again, Gamboa danced his way out of trouble again to make it to the fourth. In the fourth, Cruz dropped Gamboa again with a left hand toward the end of the round.

  • We must acknowledge the great refereeing job here by Ref, MARK CALO-OY. He reminded the fighters plenty and cut at the right times. The moment Gamboa's back touched the ropes from the final power punch, Mark stepped in and waved it off to save Yuri from further hurt.

  • I remember when Gamboa made his pro debut and how they talked about how good he was and how fast his hands were. That was in 2007. Now 17 years later, he’s a stepping stone for up and coming fighters. Sad to watch. Roy Jones Jr. too.

  • Gamboa is 40?!?! Time flies. Back in his prime he was so slick. Fast hands and a really unique style. Kinda sad he doesn't even look like the same fighter anymore.

    • The thing is though he never changed his style . He was able to get away with keeping his hands down and not returning them to guard when his chin was fresh and his reflexes were quick . That’s why he always gets knocked out .

    • Yes he does, Gamboa looks like he always has, even for 40. Dynamic and explosive offense, 0 defense and never keeps his hands up. For an inside fighter dude has a death wish the way he pulls back with his hands down everytime. But his movement and conditioning looked good idk what ur talking about, his technique is what keeps getting him KO'd.

    • Gamboa was one of my favorite boxers. Four things appear to have happened he Father Time is kicking his ass, his spirit is broken, made bad decisions, and got comfortable in the the US . This man we see today, is remanence of what once was a great Olympic boxer.

    • @@BigDogRoy Why doesn't he keep his hands up? He's a veteran I don't understand how he doesn't know how to defend a punch, Isaac couldn't miss if he tried. Gamboa looked in great shape and was throwing heat back, but he just kept pulling back with his hands down and getting cracked. If he trained with a good defense coach, or even CRUNK gym and learned how to use offense as defense, but he's too old now. But even if he just used a day 1 high guard, stuff you learn on day one keep your hands up and chin down, he does the opposite but he's like 4 feet tall, too short to try pulling back and staying out of range cuz he can't hit you from there either..

  • Cruz definitivamente es alguien con quien no te quieres topar, toda la pelea estuvo hacía enfrente, nunca lo dejó de presionar hasta que pudo cazarlo, es un auténtico perro de pelea que desde los primeros 10 segundos demostró de lo que es capaz. Da mucho gusto saber que México aún tiene esos boxeadores que presionan y todo el tiempo avanzan hacía adelante, esos boxeadores que tienen gran potencia y son noqueadores, este tipo de guerreros que nos gustan tanto.

Esa pelea con Gervonta le dió mas nombre que 10 peleas con boxeadores de medio pelo, el inflar carreras no te lleva a nada, ahí está Munguía que lo han cuidado tanto y al final cuando le echen uno de adeveras le van a reventar el globo como al Zurdo. Hay que pelear con los mejores y ya para que tanto pedo, tenía 23 años cuando peleo con Davis, como Canelo cuando peleó con Mayweather, como Sal Sánchez cuando peleo contra Wilfredo, como Chávez cuando le ganó al Azabache y casi como Morales y Barrera cuando se enfrentaron por primera vez. Así se hacen los campeones mexicanos, no peleando con bultos para inflar el record 😂

  • Watching Gamboa fight is really exhausting and heartbreaking. This is a fighter that does not know when to quit. Over the past couple years, he has become everybody's boxing "test dummy." Those who want to test their ring rust..fight Gamboa...those who want to see if they are ready for their debut...fight Gamboa...those who want to test out their knockout skills...call Gamboa. It's time to let this man retire and look back on his good ol days before all he'll be remembered for is taking a knockout well.

    • @@LJ023 He definitely has a world-class chin (his fight with Tank is also a testament to that), but yeah, he isn’t the smartest (ironically enough, probably a result of his great chin, which has caused him to take far more direct shots to the head than the average boxer over the years). There’s a high probability that he develops CTE, unfortunately.
