(June 19, 2021) Isaac "Pitbull" Cruz improved to 22-1-1 (15 KOs) following his nonstop dominating unanimous decision victory over Francisco Vargas in their 10-round lightweight bout live on SHOWTIME.
A highly anticipated battle between power-punching Mexico City natives, 23-year-old top lightweight contender Isaac Cruz (22-1-1, 15 KOs) scored a wide unanimous decision over former champion Francisco Vargas (27-3-2, 19 KOs). The official scores were 100-89, 99-90 and 97-92.
Cruz, who shot up the lightweight rankings in 2020 and punctuated his year with an electrifying first-round knockout over Diego Magdaleno in September, came out early looking for a similar result. Cruz continued to throw power punches, including his signature overhand right, but Vargas was able to avoid any devastating blows. It was the 36-year-old Vargas who was the more active fighter, throwing 586 punches compared to Cruz’s 548. However, Cruz out-landed Vargas 188-148 and landed 43 percent of his power shots en route to the victory.
Cruz consistently led with his head, resulting in a number of head clashes, including in the eventful 10th and final round which led to a significant cut over Vargas’ right eye that the Mexican warrior fought through. In the final minute of the fight, Cruz sent Vargas to the canvas for just the second time in his career with a barrage of punches, topping off an impressive performance.

That's a part of Isaac Cruz' objective, head butts leading with the head. That is really pisses me off how unworthy the ref took no points taken from Cruz b'cuz every round he's head-butting trying to open the guy up. Knowing that he's had surgeries to try to limit the amount of blood from the head clashes. I don't like Cruz style. It immediately brings to mind Bernard Hopkins. They can't hit as hard so they start headbutting and shoulder throwing into the person's head, and that's something that needs to have points taken away. It also reminds me of what's his name the wild black boxer Sean Porter he does the same thing because they can't knock nobody out.

Your comments are VERY ACCURATE but the only thing I would say is that its FAR EASIER SAID THAN DONE. Remember Cruz is shorter and his arm reach is significantly shorter than most his opponents so HE HAS TO KEEP MOVING FORWARD or press the fight. Cruz is used to doing that because most of his opponents are usually taller than him. Vargas, on the other hand, more than likely rarely fights someone so short. What this comes down to is a thing that's very important in boxing called FOOTWORK! There is a constant battle for position. This why when Cruz fought Tank many people said TANK WAS RUNNING. Tank wasn't running he was backing up because Cruz continually keeps moving forward because he has to due to his short arm length. Also, the ref does need to be checked but THE PEOPLE IN THE CORNER OF VARGAS DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING! Not about low blows, headbutts or holding. That's definitely part of the corners job.
