Awesome car. All I've got to say is the only thing better in a G class then a 400CDI is the 320CDI. The inline 6 is a better motor then the V8, but the V8 is a very special motor. In the inline 6 has a lot of power and for the characteristic of the G class or any mercedes the 6 is lots of power and torque with better fuel economy. You can hot rod the 6 up to 280hp and 500lbs or torque which is a lot of power. I see all these G glasses with petrol V8 motors, the supercharged ones, I even see them with twin turbo 12 but these are not very good motors for this kind of vehicle. They use a lot of gas and g classes aren't about acceleration. The diesel have the kind of torque to move such a large car quickly using reasonable fuel levels. Now if you do want some pimp G class yeah the twin turbo V12 might be the only motor with enough power and torque to really haul ass but the diesel are the way to go because it's a heavy off road vehicle and they run on vegetable oil. I just think it's ridiculous to buy a G class as a status symbol. I would buy a G class as a heavy duty, off road survival vehicle. I would put in a powerful diesel with a two tank biofuel conversion, and I would put body armor on it so no one could break the windows, and a EMP shield, and I would want inside the car to have a lock box with some guns and ammo, and I would want a two hammocks and sleeping bags, a satelite phone, a solar charger, and some MMS and other medicine in the car.

@danielressel6138 good job trying to be a smartass kiddo but youre wrong. The v6 diesels are 2007 model years a.k.a 3rd facelift w463 , which are completely unrelated to this. This model year had the om606 inline 6 and 2002-2006 had no 6, only 270 inline 5. Google is free.

I’ve got a 2017 g550 and I wish I had the 420cdi in it.
Believe me, you don't wish for the 420 cdi, it was notorious for all kinds of engine problems, transmission problems and also has quite bad emission ratings, so you might not be able to drive it everywhere. The 550 in the 2017 G class probably is the best modern G class you can get. You have the modern electronics, you have a very sturdy and powerful engine that probably won't make any serious trouble. Also in those late G classes they improved the rust protection a little bit. My father now has a 2018 G350d Final Edition (I don't know how this engine was called in America, it's a V6 Turbo-Diesel) and he doesn't have any real trouble with it. Whilst the other five G classes he had before that one, all made some big problems which led to conflicts with Mercedes.

I think this diesel engine can ride 450-500 000 km. G55 or G63 drivers makes this cars not very reliable because of the drive style

I found one g500 from 2002 with relatively affordable price and mileage, it has modified gage cluster and it needs registration in my country. Is it worth it? What would you do?

@@monkibonbonki8846 good point there, however as crazy as it’s sounds I’d actually use it for outdoor camping, fun light off-roading and yes even for some Sunday drives around city ok ok I admit it. I genuinely like the G wagon so I’d be a happy driver, with a car that will probably hold or increase its value by the way.

I have a 2002 with 27k and yes it’s perfect. It’s basically a $250k 2021. You get what you pay for though. They shouldn’t be cheap.

it s common at every g class old generation
this is how they sound..the engine is old and not maintained properly. So it has lost some power due to intake restriction probably. And as such the 0-60 time is a second higher than what it should be..

Для 4.0V8 слабый и натужный разгон. По звуку, мотор работает не очень хорошо, явно есть неисправности...
Так у него паспорт разгон 10 секунд)
The worst engine for this model, not reliable, electronics problems, very expensive to maintain, as usual the price looks interesting, but absolutely not a bargain ! If somebody look after the best diesel version, it’s the 300TD (OM606) straight six turbo, indestructible ! (Owned one) sold at 400 000 km running well !
