I just bought an INSANELY modified Camaro SS from Copart Salvage Auction and much to my chagrin, it received a fully build 6.8l LS engine prior to being wrecked!
We did have to pay up to buy this Chevy, so hopefully all the aftermarket parks will let us turn a profit once we strip the car down and sell it for parts!
Have a Salvage Camaro SS/ZL1 or Chevrolet rebuild story of your own? Maybe you've bought a Trashed Mopar to turn into your dream car? Be sure to tell the story in the comments!

  • It always blows my mind to see people put so much money into the engine and other parts of their car, and cheap out on the tires. Tires should always be the first purchase... They won't just help you with performance, they'll also help make sure your car stays on the road.

    @BerserkFury89@BerserkFury897 ай бұрын
    • its sound advice, why cheap out on the one thing that is in constant contact with the road? same with brakes.

      @chazzcoolidge2654@chazzcoolidge26544 ай бұрын
    • @@chazzcoolidge2654 I think most people just think "I've got serviceable tires, so it's good enough", failing to realize how big of a difference good tires make from good enough tires. They also see them as a "consumable" item, so they don't want to spend more on something that they will have to pay for again in the future. None of that logic makes sense when you consider how much tires do, but that's what goes through people's heads.

      @BerserkFury89@BerserkFury894 ай бұрын
    • This was obviously someone that was going to takeover events and burning through tires. Why else would have have nice tires up front and cheap ones in the rear

Purpose of them is to give more power and torque while remaining free revving and naturally aspirated. These engine, if done right are awesome, very strong and reliable, they will last and take all kinds of abuse and never let you down.

  • years ago a friend would get odd parts, like the seat backs and the front of the rear bench seat from Audi 5000's as the vinyl could be used to fix the sides of the seats in the 944;s etc. Old 3 ton GM trucks with a 366 had a forged crank for the 396 and the 350's had a LT1 crank in it. and the headlight was the same as the Camaro so if you wanted a correct date T3 you went to find an old 3 ton. Even the 06-09 grand Cherokee with the 4.7 and 5.7 driveshaft is desirable, Its non repairable only available new at $1400. If you dont want oil to splash in the drain pans.get a floor polisher pad from a cleaning supplier, Black one is best , fluid runs through it

It's been a running gag since the 3rd Gen that it's a crap shoot if someone cut the rear tray to swap the pump until you pull the carpet. I am honestly really disappointed gm is still overlooking such a common feature you'll see on almost every other make of vehicle these days.

    • Costs more money... They don't care about convenience or ease for repair, even for dealer techs. That whole "They design it so they make more to have to bring it in" is hog wash. Dealers aren't manufactured owned anyway. They just roll the dice and hope there is no recall or TSB that would cost more than if they had. When you are talking millions, a couple cents adds up, "Then charge a dollar more to the customer", They do, but they also want to save that dollar and make it 2 in their pocket!

      @commonsenseisdeadin2024@commonsenseisdeadin20248 ай бұрын
    • @@johnpoteat9774 correct, even in those years you still had to deal with the sending unit though and they've been a common failure item since the 70s on GM cars. Luckily most people didn't cut the tray for just the gauge not working and preferred to just leave it non functional. My dad's 72 Pontiac Catalina he left me had the sending unit die with less than 25k miles on it after it left the dealer.. It's now at 72k and still non functional and has left me on the side of the road at least a half dozen times with it's 11mpg highway and 7 city. The special option 400 it has was only put in 1% of the production of Catalina and it's basically a ram air iv restricted and tuned for a better torque curve with a different intake, carb, and exhaust manifolds. It's a stout engine but it gets old not having a gas gauge with how it chugs fuel. 🤣 Still not annoying enough to go through dropping the damn boat anchor of a gas tank though.

      @jkalash762@jkalash7628 ай бұрын
    • @@commonsenseisdeadin2024 there really isn't any cost difference involved here. When you are buying steel by the ton at the quantities GM is and paying for tooling to produce millions of cars the cost to add that feature to the press dies and the extra 10x10" or so of metal is so tiny you're talking fractions of fractions of a cent. There are plenty of reasons companies do things like this and in many cases it's due to compromising rigidity of the panel or the possibility of it starting to allow water and fumes to ingress as the seam sealer ages or from repairs where it wasn't resealed at the end.

      @jkalash762@jkalash7628 ай бұрын
  • Maybe a silly question but what about the gas? We have a smaller business as like urr and we drain, take out fuse for fuel pump, hook up a hose on fuel rail and pump and filter it into cans and use for r work autos, and a few customers will buy. I mean gas here is almost $4 gal. So used gas is better than that. Usually if cars are driven and wrecked tge gas is not stale, bad etc. We always use a bottle of dry gas etc. Here we can't take in any scrap cars with gas in tank, battery, etc. No fluids. Dry.

When we told the insurance company they made the former owner pay back most of the money he got from them

  • Man that engine sounds nasty. That thing could be an absolute beast if given a second life and it looks good. Why not leave the injectors in the manifold as well? The Camaro is a great platform. It’s proven itself on the track time and time again and a car that be modified for less than most others. An actual NASCAR Camaro shocked the world and won the 24 hours of Le Mans against cars that were much more expensive.

    @P-J-W-777@P-J-W-7779 ай бұрын
    • What Camaro won Le Man's? If you are referring to the recent run of a modified Camaro it didn't win. It did race yes.

      @jostrander71@jostrander716 ай бұрын
    • @@jostrander71 well it’s been shown on many sites and many other reports have stated it won its series at 24 hours. I never said it wasn’t modified as a matter of fact I said it was a NASCAR Camaro which suggests modified. Either way the Camaro platform is simply cheaper to modify than just about any other V8 sports car on the street. If GM had gotten of their asses they would have built a car that would have sold much better than it did but they didn’t want it competing against their precious Corvette. However due to it being considered an experimental car it wasn’t allowed to win even though it had lapped a few other cars that were specifically designed to rave that event and were much more expensive.

      @P-J-W-777@P-J-W-7776 ай бұрын
    • @P-J-W-777 It was a fun experience for Hendick Motorsport. The car was in a class almost by itself. The car was modified because you need headlights and taillights driving around the 24 hour race. If they really wanted a show off they should have raced a bone stock ZL1. That would have been more interesting.

      @jostrander71@jostrander716 ай бұрын
    • @P-J-W-777 BTW that car was not cheap and anything can be built to go fast. Even Tesla 4 door Plaids with modified suspension can corner. Not as good as a Mercedes AMG Roadster but good enough to suprise people. The Garage 57 Camaro finished 39th overall.

      @jostrander71@jostrander716 ай бұрын
    • @@jostrander71 I’m fully aware that the NASCAR Camaro was not cheap. But it was near as expensive as the Hyper/GT CARS and wasn’t expected to be able to even be competitive against them as they are specially designed and built for that race. While you are correct in that it finished 39th overall it would have finished much higher potentially even 1st had it not been for a transmission failure. I read a bit more into it and found that what people were reporting was actually its win during practice trial runs. (Seems you can’t believe everything you read online these days. Even from multiple sources! lol.) Of course anything can be made to go fast. Again I never said that wasn’t the case. Dollar for dollar the Camaro has been shown and proven to be the least expensive and easiest platform to modify/improve with its LS engines and already track focused chassis design. A stock Camaro beat the track of a ton of cars on the Nuremberg track. Cars they said it shouldn’t have Ben able to beat that were much more expensive. Such as Ferraris, Porsche and Lamborghinis. Cars that were 130,000 dollar plus. Just imagine what the Camaro would have been like if they had the GT350 and GT500 version like Ford was very very smart and did with the Mustang. Hennessy had a performance version (Exorcist) on pump gas you could buy from them that had a 0-60 @ 2.1 seconds with a 1/4mile time of 9.57 and a top speed of 217mph and an even fast version the (Resurrection) on race gas. People build them up street legal all the time pushing over 1000hp easily. EV’s are only good for a few things. Quick 0-60 times, leaving you the stranded on the side of the road because it’s dead, catching fire and running into anything that’s it’s cameras don’t see. My whole point was crapping on GM and their management and design team. Had they taken the Camaro further offered more performance options like Ford and Dodge did with their cars as well as improving the design their sales would have been much much better. They just weren’t as exciting as the other options. The C7 ZR1 is a masterpiece of design and the C7 Z06 is awesome. They could have given the Camaro the same attention and it would have been successful and made them more money as there would have been more produced and sold when compared to their corvettes. They are even holding back when it comes to horsepower on the corvettes so all they have to do each year is offer a little more with nothing more than a software update. I used to be a huge and loyal GM fan however they’ve lost my respect due to their lack of competitiveness and design choices.

My last 2015 a gentleman walked up to me asked if he could look at my truck closer after taking a picture of the VIN tag he said give me a for cash you sell me your truck right now. Have an 07 I was wanting to LS Swap so I knew what I had in the truck and added $2500 to the price I gave him the number he said you sell it for that today I said sure he then asked if I wanted cash or a cashiers check from his bank. He gave me a $500 deposit and he took possession 5 days later. My 07 is getting a 5.3 L33 with a Tremec TKX at this time…

I rebuild wrecks and I see that a lot, most tow guys just partially put them back in place. Even a manual on a rollback and that shifter was a little damaged.
