Vintage Treasures! A 1900's Workshop Tour in The Heart of Norway
In this video tour of my workshop dedicated to hand and treadle-powered tools from the 1900.s, I express gratitude to a friend for her support and collaboration. I introduce the concepts of hand crank power tools and treadle-powered tools, explaining their manual operation and versatility without electricity. My workshop, situated underground for consistent temperatures, showcases various sections including woodworking, leather working, and metalworking areas. I provide detailed demonstrations and explanations for tools like the metal lathe, forge, and drill press, each with its unique history and functionality. My collection includes antique tools like hammers, planes, hand drills, and saws, some dating back to the 1700's. I highlight restoration efforts, emphasizing the preservation of vintage tools for future generations. I offer practical advice on acquiring antique tools, whether through local sources, online platforms, or auctions. I reflect on the importance of passing down craftsmanship and tools to future generations, emphasizing the connection between past, present, and future legacies in craftsmanship.

You really have a real treasure, dude!! I loved it.
I've got a 28" handsaw that I believe may have been made around 1900 that is in desperate need of a new handle. Originally I planned to make one myself but alas I'm no longer in a position to do so. I would like to send it to you to add to your collection as a thank you for your interesting and educational videos. Just let me know if you are interested.
Vero strumenti dell' anima...
I think it's the best tools setup i ever seen, tools that cross générations 🤩
I appreciate getting an in-depth look at your shop and hearing from you! I still maintain that your way of doing things and your choice in traditional ways and your presentation of it is amongst the best on KZhead in my opinion.
Wow! I appreciate that very much! Thank you for the support my friend!
I have been mesmerized by your channel. I am very happy you gave us a tour of the shop, you did not disappoint!
Incredible. In Brazil, the country where I currently live, it is very rare to find tools from the old school. It was great to find your KZhead channel, you became a perfect reference for me. I'm a computer engineer and I work all the time with high technology like nanotechnology, quantum computing and artificial intelligence, but my hobby is old school where I relax away from technology in my studio with old tools. Thank you for sharing your work. I wish you success!
Awesome, thanks for sharing sir! Best wishes from Norway 👋😃
Fantastic, I could sit in your shop for hours just looking at all the tools. As I have stated before I have some of my😢 great grandfather’s tools he was born in the 1850’s. Also have some newer tools that I didn’t realize were antique or considered vintage. Thanks for a great channel.
👍
I like old tools so much, i need an explanation for techniques of work of such old tools and machines . Thanks
Thank you for the tour. I’ve been curious about some of the things in your shop. I love it that so many things operate with a foot pedal and wheels🤗❤️🐝
Thank you so much for the shop tour Boris! It was great to see it all and hear you talking about it. Truly appreciated!
The way you keep your shop shows in the work you do. The scenery on the end of the video was enjoyable as well.
That was a great tour. I’m glad you finally showed your restoration world. Thanks 🎸🔪
Thank you - i love handcraft and history - so your tour was a gem for me!
My pleasure, thank you kindly!
Thank you for the tour. Enjoyed looking at your shop layout, tools, and your explanations, definitely a worthy goal to aspire to, it must be throughly enjoyable to work in the shop. Appreciate your dedication to your restoration craft. I wish the best to you sir.
really nice space to work in and your tool collection has become very large over the last years, love seeing the ones you have made and that there is no power tools to be seen anywhere and all the old ones you have brought back to life, keep up with the great work you do and I look forward to seeing what comes next, been really interesting watching your progress over the years and hopefully plenty more to come still
Excellent!! I've been waiting for this video. Thanks for showing us your fantastic shop and tools. You've really come a long ways over the past few years. Your shop just keeps getting better!!
You are my hero! Complete respect for you, sir!
Wow, much appreciated Mr. Jass 👋😃
Thanks for showing these ancient tools
Of course, thank you for watching 😀
Thank you for what you do for us and the way you do it.
Great tour! I started my woodworking journey acquiring many power tools. It wasn't until I made a Moravian workbench using mostly hand tools that I got the bug. I flattened the laminated top using a $25 Stanley plane and started selling off my largest tools first. A spring pole lathe build is in my future. Typically with hand tools, no noise, no airborne dust and no hearing protection needed, that is why I love it.
Your tools are fortunate for having found you. Brilliant.
what a fantastic workplace. Thanks for showing it.
Thank you for sharing, enjoy your videos .the work you do is amazing
Mucha suerte, colega.
Amazing, amazing, amazing workshop!!!
Absolutely:WONDERFUL.
Thanks!

Thank you for the nice information. Lovely channel. Enjoyable videos.
So nice workshop and very old .i like it thank you for the video.❤
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you kindly 😃
Thank you Boris for the tour around your workshop. You have certainly managed to fit in a lot in a small area and you obviously look after your shop equally as well as you look after your tools. It re-enforces the saying that vintage tools were made to last unlike many of the tools we see manufactured today. Thank you for the video.
You are very welcome my friend. I try my best and I'm very grateful that noticed that. Absolutely, I couldn't agree more 👌
You have achieved something worthwhile and I admire the skills you have!

a beautiful place to be
amazing . I am not jealous, but for the first time in my life, I was jealous of someone 🤣🤣. I don't know how much time and how much money was spent to assemble these tools , but the result is amazing.
Vielen Dank 👋😀
Really a treat to see your tools. Keep it up.
Thanks a lot, will do!
Dobrý deň prajem. Veľmi pekne máte zariadenú dielňu. Veľmi sa mi páčia Vaše mechanické stroje , keď si predstavím že naši starí rodičia takýmito náradím robili všetko tiež kedysi... Veľmi pekne videá robíte 👍 . Prajem veľa šťastia.
Hermoso taller!! Geniales herramientas!! Cheers and good life!!
Excelente video y su dedicación a rescatar historia. Gracias.
🙏😃👍
That may be the coolest shop I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot of them. I love non electric tools and your shop is amazing considering how small it is and how many crafts you were able to efficiently cram in there. I just love it…
Wow, thanks a lot Zach! It means a lot! I appreciate watching and your kind words!
Wow, awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
Wonderfull ! Thanks for share .
Many thanks, of course!

Amaising shop! Museum quality!
Many thanks!
Well I watched it twice, and I definitely watch it again. I also have quite a collection of vintage tools. But I don't be as organized as you do. My centerpiece is also a Barnes No.4 treadle but I also have a lineshaft in progress. Your shop is an inspiration to me and I love this kind of videos. ❤ Keep going on and have fun.
That is awesome! I'm glad to hear that you enjoy and appreciate vintage tools as I do 🤝 Thanks for watching and sharing about your tools. I'm curious if you use your tools often or just as a collection?
That's a nice shop you've made for yourself. I thoroughly enjoy watching you work with all of your treadle powered tools as well as your hand tools. There's something very satisfying about using antique tools and i have accumulated a lot of them for myself.
Awesome, thanks a lot! I agree, I find it very peaceful and calming. That is the way to go, well done 🤝
Wow! Wonderful shop! Congratulations! RWB ❤🎉
Thank you so much sir 🙏
I have the same mounted hand crank drill press and many of the same hand drills. They were just laying around the property I had just purchased. Your work shop is fantastic and fascinating.
Very cool to hear! Much appreciated!
Thank you! Very intresting!
You are welcome 😃👍
Great and interesting history. Greetings from Venezuela 🇻🇪 😀 👋
Cool stuff. Saw things never b4 seen. Inspiring. Gives the home tinkerer some ideas. Tyvm
Awesome! Thank you!
What a beautiful explanation, I felt like I was in the workshop. By the way, my favorite is the foot-powered metal lathe. I also want to see the German-made miter saw in working order as soon as possible. My dear friend, I wish you continued successful work. Stay safe and Cheers 🥃
Hello my dear friend, sorry for late reply! Thank you kindly, it means a lot to me. Stay safe you too, cheers 🥃
👋😃👍🤝🤝🤝
Master ! Its a great instrumental word !!!!
Cool, much appreciated 👋😀
Nice early 20th century shop. I do like the Barnes lathe. I think I visited their factory in the 1980s.
Wow very beautiful 🎉
Thank you! Cheers!
A Lovely workshop with Lovely tools! I use and have many of the same tools except most of your treadle powered tools. Thank You Kindly and I look forward to more of your videos. I do have some tools from my family including leather tools used by my Great Great Grandfather who was a shoemaker from the 1840s to the 1870s. I also have a treadle jig saw much like yours and many planes. Wishing you sharp tools and a happy workshop! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
Wow, that is amazing to hear! Thanks for sharing DaveyJO! You are very welcome sir! Do you plan to get some treadle powered tools as well, to add in your collection? Greetings from Norway 👋😃
Excellent job on the shop tour video Boris! Really complete tour, detailed info, visually stunning….the ending shots were a pleasant surprise and wonderful way to end the video. Thank you so much for this tour! 😊 and for the shout-out my friend. 😊🎉 I had some idea of how many tools and knives you restored but had no idea it was that many. You are making your grandfather proud. 😊
You are very welcome 🤗 That is great to hear, I'm glad that you enjoyed the video. To be honest I was surprised as well. I restored much more than I thought 😅 Much appreciated, very kind of you ☺️ Cheers!
I am a first time viewer and new subscriber! I enjoyed the tour of your well thought out shop. I am fortunate to have inherited many fine hand tools from my grandfather who immigrated to Northern Minnesota from Norway over a hundred years ago. Many of my chisels and files have homemade handles that show the marks of my grandfather's hands. I look forward to looking at more of your videos, there's quite a number of interesting old restorations.
Welcome aboard! That is wonderful to hear, especially that you inherited tools from your grandfather. Best part for me is that you appreciate the tools and the story of marks on the handles. Thank you kindly!
Alessandro
Que maravilla ,que envidia sana

👋😀
this is very impressive ty for the tour... on a side note, i was lucky to be stationed in Tronhiem for a month
Cool, sounds like you had a good time 😃 Thanks for watching!
Supert! Takk for at du deler 😊 Hilsener fra Karmøy! Alf J
Great👍
😃👍
Would love to have a work shop like that
👍
Howdy FFD - I have a request. It would be great to spend triple the time that you did on these tools. Possibly, a tool a week if you like - in detail. There were so many interesting wooden planes that I had to slow it down to 0.25x speed. And even that was fast. The tools deserve to be showcased. You have done well in collecting and it would be great to see each type in action too. From a fellow enthusiast. Cheers.
Hey there 😀 I'm very thankful for your feedback and will definitely think about your suggestion. I totally agree! Have a good one, cheers!
