  • Ten Hag took over a Man Utd team following their worst points tally in Premier League history, with hardly any players suited to his style of play, whilst Arne Slot would come into a Liverpool team after winning, or close to winning the league with players suited to his style. The only comparisons to the two situations are that both managers are Dutch

Zidane does not like England and does not speak English. De Zerbi and Frank have won nothing. Nagelsmann is not interested. Neither is Emery Arne Slot has won the league title and cup and reached European finals, has good man-management, develops players, promotes youth, plays attacking football and WANTS to come to Liverpool.

    • I think it comes down to this - if we're looking for another Klopp, we're neve going to find that, but this isn't one of those times when a manager leaves a club is disarray and what is needed is radical change. If our new manager has some of the qualities we love in Klopp but is still his own man and doesn't try and imitate Klopp he'll have a decent chance. What we have to be prepared to do is to give him time, and certainly to be patient as long as some form of progress is visible. What we might want to learn from the Mancs is that you don't necessarily measure that progress by winning a cup and a high finish in the league, both of which have clearly flattered to deceive in Ten Hag's case. What we should be asking at the end of next season is (a) can we see what the manager is trying to do in terms of style of play, recruitment and development? and (b) can we see evidence that we're moving in that direction?

That said there really isn't a standout managerial candidate in world football who is available. Xabi Alonso would have been the one, however Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are definitely more attractive options given the state of the Premier League at the moment. A manager who will develop players and promote academy players. It sounds like a great fit and he will get the backing Klopp got from the stands
