because the only way to get new shit is to break the old stuff many of our M2 machine guns date back to world war 2 and one of my friends was once issued a M16a1 from the Vietnam war... most of the funding goes to the Navy and Airforce...

@@johnw2026 If it provides any consolation the parachute rigger that botched that was reduced to private, dishonorably discharged and more than likely was charged for some of the damages. As a paratrooper the last person you want packing your chute is a person that thinks sabotaging equipment is funny.

I once had an Officer enter a range me and another guy were guarding, it was hot. He told me I didn't have enough authority to keep him from entering, I told him I had the authority of the Staff Sergeant who told me nobody is to enter, and if we were at war I would shoot him. Latter that day he came by and apologized to me, I bet he got in trouble for that. He is lucky I didn't give him a butt stroke to the head, and I did think about it too. I was told under no circumstances was anyone to enter, anyone. He put me in a bad spot.
Some say that poor private is still policing the parking lot to this day. On a quiet night, when the moon is bright, you might still hear him calling from the abyss: "You alright, 1st Sergeant?"

Jeremiah Fogel Ikr, I was G.M.D. (Ground Mobility Division) aka recovery.
Our British recovery mechanics have an outlook like this. If you get it stuck, your pulling out the winch rope and hooking up the shackles to get it unstuck. So if the shackle points are under water.... It's really good cause even if it's the COs wagon the senior recovery mech is in charge and gives the orders until pulled out then the CO can go back to being in charge. 👍
