The 2024 Porsche 911 S/T ($290,000 USD starting, $325,900 CAD starting) is a lightweight high performance GT car that aims to be the purest form of road-going 911. It’s powered by a 518 horsepower naturally aspirated flat-six engine, and revs all the way to 9000 rpm. It’s also seen significant S/T specific changes, such as a single mass flywheel and lightweight clutch. But with an availability that’s almost too limited, and a feverishly high price tag, does the 911 S/T live up to its expectations? Thomas and James are excited to get behind the wheel and find out! We hope you enjoy the episode! And then subscribe, silly.
Huge thank you to @MilesPerHr for allowing us time with his press loan! What a legend.
And to Sam and Page One for helping to make this happen.

  • James and Thomas are great and the key reason why so many of us come back for more, but I wanted to say props to the editors and production as well. I know production quality has been steadily increasing over the years of watching you guys, but something about this video made me realize how far you've all come compared to the videos from way back when. Props!

  • You guys are the successors to the iconic trio of Top Gear - when it was still great - and The Grand Tour. Copywriting is epic ("that sounds like I'm in between radio stations" - nice image), filming and editing are next level, it's all professional AND fun! And compared to the said trio, this channel remains focussed mainly on car testing and reviews. Love it. Nice job and thanks for that.

    • I don't understand why everything needs to be compared to Top Gear. "This is the new Top Gear", etc comments. Why can't this just be good content on it's own without being compared to Top Gear? Clearly this specific video is nothing like your typical Top Gear video, and that does not matter. It's a good video with it's own script and idea.

    • @@slonkijippie Because Top Gear set the standads and is THE reference. Most of us like cars because of the way Top Gear showed them to us. Now Throttle House gives us absolute good content and we finally have car shows that meet THE reference, new standards set by those 3 blokes. When you have Jason Camisa on your channel, it’s because your channel is a good one. And I’m sure that Thomas and James arw proud to read that they are “compared” to THE reference.

  • 14:50 I would actually argue that you don't have to buy a 911 S/T to get this kind of experience, because a new ND Miata at 2,300 LBS offers a very similar drive to this car. Extremely light weight, a revvy NA engine, soft suspension, little sound deadening and a fantastic manual gearbox. But apart from that, this really is it. What a glorious machine.

    @tyler9703@tyler9703Ай бұрын
    • Bro, thats like comparing me to Brad Pitt cause were both made of meat... You wont get this kind of out of a Miata, period. You dont get the precision, the feel, the raw power and responsiveness, the sound, etc... of this 911 in a cheapo, fragile steel and aluminum bodied roadster powered by an anemic straight 4 pot.

      @AI-qd4vb@AI-qd4vbАй бұрын
    • @@AI-qd4vb but you do get something that costs less than the adm of a gt3, let alone the car itself, and unlike a gt3, you can rev out 4th and NOT need to face jail time ;) or you can get a similar formula in a c6 z06, with actual power (500hp) and still have $300k left over

      @ShaiyanHossain@ShaiyanHossainАй бұрын
    • @@AI-qd4vb I can guarantee you haven't actually driven an ND if you call the engine "anemic" or the chassis "fragile". There's very little cowl shake to speak of, only over rough train tracks, and the engine is a wonderfully responsive unit with throttle response like a motorbike, and revs that drop the instant you go for an upshift. It is true the Miata is not a laser-precise machine, but if you watch the S/T review again, neither is that in comparison to the GT3. If you actually boil down what makes the 911 S/T special, the Miata offers pretty much the same kind of experience minus the horsepower, but even then the power it has is enough for someone that doesn't care about the number on the dash, rather how the car actually feels to rev out. For a tenth of the price, that's pretty damn impressive.

      @tyler9703@tyler9703Ай бұрын
    • @@tyler9703 What you said. The catch the revs minigame, you play the same one in an ND. Single mass flywheel response? That's ND1. I can shake the car with even the quickest kicks of the throttle the exact same way James showed. And James knows this but nobody wants to hear him talk about Miatas in this review. This isn't to say the 911 S/T isn't my favorite sports car....because it is 100%%

      @vipermoon_@vipermoon_Ай бұрын
    • @@AI-qd4vbOf course you can't get the same performance numbers out of a Miata. But you can get some of that FEEL of driving. It's got the right formula, only applied on 1/12th of the budget. 5.000 dollars isn't as much as 60,000 dollars...but it's made from the same paper and equally as green.

  • My son and I went driving this past weekend and one of the dealers we went to was a Porsche dealer for a 2014 Cayman S. Firstly, the Cayman was a good driving car, the flat 6 sounded amazing and the PDK was the fastest I've driven. Having said that Porsche pricing is insane. This 10 year old Cayman S with upholstery damage, fender damage and PPF needing to be replaced was $45k. They had candy colored almost new 911 turbo S's in the showroom for $299k and $280 respectively, for used sub-1000 mile cars. Umm Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Aston Martin... I'll take a Z06 for almost 1/3rd the cost or a Lotus Emira for 1/3rd, F-Type R, SL 63AMG... Too many drink the Porsche Kool-Aid.

My M3 e30, while only affordable these days in comparison to cars like this, will give you an experience like this and I have had the good fortune to put 300k miles on it daily driving. Buy an old e30 and drive it if you’re a regular person and want to actually drive this style of car.
