I enjoyed hearing all the positivity from Aaron. That literally speaks volumes of his character as a man as well as being a hunter.
Agreed! He’s a great one. Thanks for watching!
Erik trying sooo hard to pull everyone up and appreciate the BEST parts of this hunt!!! ❤
I was just trying to see all the positives in all of it despite the heartbreaks of it all. What an adventure! Thank you for watching!

Thank you for sharing this hunt and experience - incredible buck. Congrats! The footage, narrating, music, message, and overall film is outstanding - job well done on all fronts. Please keep producing awesome content like this!
Thank you for the kind words, Dan! We sure appreciate your support!
Awesome hunt guys! I saw the short of this video and I've been waiting to watch the whole video. Great video!
Thanks for watching, Wes! 🙏
Been waiting for this one! Congratulations Aaron!! What a great buck!
Thank you, Shawn for your support as always! Stay safe!
Thank you very much, Shawn! I really appreciate it!
Thanks for the support as always, Shawn.
Hell of a video 🙌 Glad you still found him!
Thanks, Kaylee!!!
Dude awesome buck. Bitter sweet but it’s a learning experience and a memory thatll never leave your head
Learned for sure! Based on what we knew at the time I wouldn’t have changed the decision making! We didn’t know what we didn’t know. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching, Alex!
Just an observation, its not always the best thought process to rely on video to see shot placement. As a hunter, you should know and have the confidence in your ability. If its too dark or you are short on light, don't take the shot. Now, before people start hating on me - When i was younger, i shot a 6 point bull that was a special permit draw tag. I took a 30 yard shot and one that i thought was a good shot. I hit low, in the brisket. Only had roughly twenty minutes of shooting light when i shot. I gave him an hour and went to tracking blood. Long story short, we went back and got lanterns to see better, ended up pushing him three canyons over only to find the bears had gotten to him before we got to him. Mother nature feeds itself, sometimes to the dismay of us hunters. Again, this was only 23 years ago. I have learned a lot since then- when in doubt, back out. You made the right call and that is a great buck.
It was what we thought at the time a "gimmie" shot - especially something as weird as what happened to us. Bottom line, hunting is imperfect and things can and will go wrong even in perfect scenarios. I would take or have Aaron take that shot again 10/10. It was close in proximity and I trust Aaron's marksmanship skills, but things happen as you know! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and we appreciate your support on the channel. God bless! ~Erik
@@MuleyFreak Totally agree with what transpired. I would take my shot again as well- 100%. 👍👍
Thanks again for watching!
Thing is you can always say 10 more yards, 50 more yards and so on, but it doesnt mean it will be there. At some point you have to make a call and i would have made the exact same call as you did so cant really blame yourself at that point
That’s kind of how we felt about it…thnx for weighing in, JB. Appreciate you.
Well put. Thanks for watching and I hope you have a great 2024 hunting season!
Of course you can blame yourself….who else squeezed the trigger?

Aaron congratulations on finding your coyote buck. It's a hard thing to accept. and find peace with what was left. I have left a few different deer or elk overnight in the woods due to it being last light and just enough time to gut it out and come back with help in the morning all those times I would leave my coat draped over the animal's body and it always worked nothing ever chewed on any of them. But then I don't know if anything ever got close enough to find any of them. Thanks for sharing your hunt and take care🙏 Marty
Thank you brother!!! 🙏🏽 God bless. Have a great hunting season
Ya never know, Martin! I’m glad that worked out for you. Thanks for watching!
Great buck! Congrats. I was unfortunate and had the same thing happen to me two years ago.
Bummer, brother! It seems to happen all too often. Thanks for watching!!’
So freakin sweet, way to get after it guys!! Sucks you didn’t find him in time but that’s just the way it goes. You played it smart, rather than bumping the buck!
Thanks, Chris! I definitely thought we did the right thing in the moment... just sucks we didn't go a few more yards
That’s kinda of what we thought! Thanks for watching, homie!
Glad you were able to recover the buck, and what a fine buck he is! Hunting is full of woulda, coulda, shouldas... that's why it's hunting. My uncle had a buck eaten on during the night. They weren't sure if it was coyotes (likely) or a cat, but they were able to salvage some of it like you the following morning. Congrats on a beautiful trophy!
More and more stories of predators getting to trophies before the hunters! It happens for sure! Thanks for sharing and thanks for the support!

I had this happen in unit 62 only 12 miles or so from where I live. I'm a meat hunter and when I saw the reaction on your face to what had happen to the meat that really hit home for me as I could see the meat was your main concern and that's how it should be. Congrats on a terrific buck fellas!
Thank you! 🙏
My buddy shot a deer with his bow this January. The deer ran maybe 80 yards and died behind some brush. (AZ landscape in the flats). Coyotes had already eaten one of the back quarters with 20-30 min before they got to it
That's insane!! I believe it after this experience - plus, I've hunted AZ and there are tons of coyotes out there.
Wild 🤪 you can guys obviously relate then
Congrats on a stud buck! Bummer about the meat…. But it happens. Look forward to your next adventure!

Nice buck guys and the shear mass of that buck! What kind of projectiles are you guys using in your 7mm PRC? If you don’t mind sharing I’m running a 208 LRX in my 300 PRC
That 7 PRC is slinging #hornady 175 ELD-Xs at 3K. This circumstance has everything to do with shot placement and is not knowing where that was after the fact.
Thanks brother! ELDX's mainly, but we do shoot ELDM's as well.
@@MuleyFreak it happens to the best of us I switched to Barnes LRX due to my personal preference of almost always having a pass through. Here in the southeast, most of us don’t shoot past 400 yards and most of the shots are around 50-100 so to shoot my 300 PRC I wanted something that would stay together and punch an exit hole.
@@aaronvanwoerkom6401 I like the Eld-x I have some 212s but I ended up shooting a whitetail with them and it just causes to much meat loss for me to like but I’m taking mostly closer shots unless I’m hunting our pastures
#Hornady 212s might be a little much for a whitetail; however, if you stay off the shoulder and shoot lungs you'd be fine! IMHO.
Hey, does anybody know what song was playing at the beginning of the vid, also this was an awesome video and trophy!
Evan Honer - How Could I Ever
Great film guys, I know all too well how destructive packs of coyotes and wolves can be on game. We used to have big herds of elk and good mule deer numbers in N Idaho just like you filmed on this hunt. Those days are looong gone unfortunately, all thanks to Colorado's newest parasite, the wolf.
You're right, sir. They can be destructive little demons! I've seen your Northern Idaho herd suffer and it's unfortunate! Hopefully they make a comeback one day!
Heck of a buck. Heck of a day. Heck of a shocker followed by HECK OF A SET OF ANTLERS. Followed by what the hell???? Haha. Congrats A.
Haha. You’re “heckofas” are spot on, brother! See you at the Western Hunt EXPO!
We had NO IDEA he was that big lol
Erik knew he was pretty nice, but maybe not 210" class nice 😜
Thnx for watching, brother! See ya soon!
Great deer and an easier pack out , thx coyotes haha
We love venison. Seeing these coyotes take our deer was devastating for us. , but we understand this nature and they were just being coyotes.
It was unfortunately a much lighter pack out than I had hopes. Thanks for watching man!
We were all hoping for heavier packs! :)
That loose meat game bag is legit. Great idea
Thanks, Doug. They're awesome for loading loose meat, back-straps, and tendies solo!
Ever plan on selling them solo?
They're top notch!
Last season just before end of shooting light for the day, my 10yr old daughter shot her first deer which was a 5x6 with double brow tines. We didnt get to him until very early in the morning due to the fact he ran on neighbor's land. He was maybe 75 yards away in the trees and the damn coyotes got to him before we did. Literally nothing left except the head.
I am so sorry!!! It absolutely sucks. I hope she was still able to enjoy the moment regardless of the coyotes. Tell her we all said congrats on her buck!
Sorry to hear that, Eric! Coyotes can eat through a critter quick!
@@MuleyFreak amazing how fast it can happen. It was a huge bummer for her first but she was able to put a doe down shortly after during the youth season and she was just as stoked so it all worked out in the end.
@@aaronvanwoerkom6401 she ended up filling her tag with a doe shortly after and she was just as happy as if it were her buck.
@@MuleyFreak this past season I only had 2 days to archery elk hunt due to the fire here in Elk, WA and she was with me when we called a bull into 8 feet on day 2. He came right in and was damn near drooling on the top of her head. He had no idea we were there. He circled down wind of us and stepped out again at 49 yards and that was all it took. I think that moment was even more special for her considering our circumstances with the fire and the fact we only had 2 days on public land.
I do appreciate you showing the true ups ans downs of hunting. Congrats on an amazing buck.
No problem, brother. Thnx for watching!
Cuts are not ups and downs of any outdoor event.
Thanks, Andy. Appreciate you watching and thank you for the kind words
Absolutely stud!!!! Horrible circumstances to find him eaten but always a risk leaving them!!! Is assume with the lack of really good blood bullet didn't exit??
We'll never know, honestly. We did end up finding decent blood at the end of the trail but it was very sparse before that.
Don’t really know about the bullet as his back end was eaten to pieces! He started bleeding a lot more towards where we found him, but weren’t finding a whole lot of blood before that point.
Beautiful buck regardless!!! Congrats again!!! Seems those iffy blood hits never seem to happen on a morning hunt!!!
Ha. Amen to that! Why do they always happen at night!?
Erik is definitely a real one for trying to uplift and reinsure you! Definitely an absolute stud and great representation of the species and animal. Glad you were able to recover him. Such a hard balance. Keep pushing to look, push too far and never find them…
Appreciate the kind words, buddy! I was just trying to take the good out of the situation and point it out as it's easy to focus on the negative. We sure appreciate your support on the channel, brother!
Appreciate your comment, Stud! Thanks for your support here on the channel.
Great job guys, what a nice buck " Until next time Colorado - get a control on those yotes 🐺🐺🐺 ! "
Amen to that! Haha
Aaron. You made the decision you felt was best, be proud of that. Also, good job on taking what meat was left. Not too many anti-hunters will watch your channel, but folks must understand the intentions of a moral hunter. Thanks for representing the community well. Lastly, as much as losing meat is a heartbreaker, the ecosystem greatly benefits by consumption. There are literally high mountain streams where salmon guts are dropped into the water by helicopter. The rotting salmon give back to bears, small fish and vegetation in the water. You're a good hunter.
Thanks for your comment, Andrew! The trophy for us is the entire animal and when we aren't able to harvest the meat that we took it's a little depressing, but given the information we had the night we all felt it was the right decision and would make the same decision again with the same information. After-all, like you said, nothing goes to waste in nature!
Awesome buck guys! You guys did the right thing in my opinion backing out. Gotta trust your gut. Unfortunate the coyotes found him. Its nature though. Congrats. Enjoy the positives of the hunt.
Our guts were right, but the coyotes were close and hungry that night. Thnx for watching!
Gut said back out and I’m glad we did because chances are we bump him across that big open bowl of sage brush in the dark and he goes somewhere we can’t retrieve him at all.
Agreed. And usually at that point they will stop bleeding and it makes the recovery more difficult to finish. Been there. Glad u guys found him and were able to salvage the meat you could. Take care fellas.
Craig, there was one point we couldn't find the next drop of blood for 10-15 minutes and it took all three of us to detect next blood. We will release a podcast on it.
Being from Colorado with the really bad winter kill we had last year I really appreciate you guys leaving the breeder bulls alone we need as many as possible these days.
NP - we just felt like these bulls needed a few years before harvesting!
@@MuleyFreak 100% agree my family has an outfit is the northwester area and we canceled most of our hunters for the same reason. Sacrifice a few season now to keep them in the future.
Good call, Justin. I actually have a buddy in the North West corner who did the very same thing!!!
I really really appreciate the reaction. I would have felt the exact same way. What a giant buck. Ya unfortunate about the shot.
We were devastated to have lost the meat, but grateful to have recovered some of the meat and salvage the cape. Thanks for watching!
@@MuleyFreak I almost had a situation like this in archery last season. If I wasn’t able to get back on the buck I knew for sure coyotes would get him. Luckily I was able to finish the job after a lot of effort.

I wish you were wrong, but you're not, sadly. Thanks for watching the film, brother!
Wow someone who puts the real score on the movie title alot of people say look at my 190 inch deer and you see it and you know it's just 160
Hater hate. Trollers troll. 🧌
Thanks for watching! An official Boone and Crocket scorer scored him - not me!
Super buck dude, congrats! Tough break loosing some of the meat, but as hunters, we make decisions based off experience and gut feelings. It could have gone another way where you continued to bump him, and we all know how far a gut shot animal can run, and you loose him completely, so it happens to the best of hunters.
Amen 🙏, brother! Thanks for your perspective!
Very well put. That's exactly how we felt. Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind words
One thing i do is i know you said it was 7:33 i set a time for myself instead of how many more yards i go okay walk till 8:00 if he isnt there then call it head out just helps me because i get caught up in 10 yards becomes 1000
This is true, and we were running out of real estate to work with. We didn't want to bump him into land we couldn't retrieve him on.

We’re you able to save the cape? Not the most important thing but in these cases some times it is. I lost my moose meat this year. Once in a life time tag in wy. But my taxidermist called and said my cape fortunately made it. Hang in there man though unfortunate these things happen.
By the skin of our teeth we were able to save the cape! Glad to hear you were able to save your moose cape!

Been there, makes you feel like crap, congratulations on a great buck.
Indeed. Thank you.
What’s the name of the song in the opening
Evan Honer, "How Could I Ever". Thanks for watching, Colby!
Can't get too down. You could have went 10 more the night before and he run 500 more. Too many unknowns. You found it, tagged it, good work.
Great perspective which was ours too! If we pushed him another 500 yards he could of ventured into unretrievable territory!
So no tag on the rack?
Tag goes with the largest portion of the meat.
It took how long to decide a 207" buck was a shooter when he was at 80 yards? ;) Things happen. Tough break, but great group of supportive guys.
Lighting was interesting in the trees. Rather safe than sorry taking a critter you want vs something you don’t. Would rather make certain and let live.
Great buck..you could call that buck...The coyote buck...
“Coyote buck” has a ring to it 😂
I would bet wolf also!!
Wolves.
Your right no such thing as just 1 !!
Ha ha. Truth there!
Orange binos, that's against everything that is hunting lol
Just trying to stay safe out there hahah
That sucks, but 90% of the time hunters end up pushing animals which results in animals dead miles away, suffering or no retrieval at all knowing the animal is dead somewhere not recovered, all this in your mind knowing and witnessing and hearing these stories you make the decision to mark last blood and go back next day. Unfortunately sometimes other predators beat you to it. When other animals beat you to your animals it’s out of your control, but had you pushed him and lost him that would be on you and worse feeling. Better luck next season
Giving what we knew at the time with the information we had at the time I think all of us feel the same way and that's that we would back out again! We were more likley than not to push that buck off the ground we had permission on to either another piece of private or a be a public where are tag wasn't good for. Hunting isn't perfect and it's far from it. It's all about learning and trying to be better. Happy to have you on the channel, Scott.
Bummer. Pretty soon it won’t be coyotes picking a carcas clean 🐺
No that’s about the saddest deal too - because you’re not wrong! 😑

Sorry about the yotes, gut wrencher, stud nonetheless
It’s a bummer for sure, but grateful at the end of the day for what we did receive.
This area needs some major predator control for sure; however, nothing goes to waste in nature!
@@erikvanwoerkom1896 no doubt the predators can be overpopulated but hard for people to get out and take care of it, we have the same problem
Some areas def need extra help in terms of knocking down problematic predators - especially this area!
