  • Just an observation, its not always the best thought process to rely on video to see shot placement. As a hunter, you should know and have the confidence in your ability. If its too dark or you are short on light, don't take the shot. Now, before people start hating on me - When i was younger, i shot a 6 point bull that was a special permit draw tag. I took a 30 yard shot and one that i thought was a good shot. I hit low, in the brisket. Only had roughly twenty minutes of shooting light when i shot. I gave him an hour and went to tracking blood. Long story short, we went back and got lanterns to see better, ended up pushing him three canyons over only to find the bears had gotten to him before we got to him. Mother nature feeds itself, sometimes to the dismay of us hunters. Again, this was only 23 years ago. I have learned a lot since then- when in doubt, back out. You made the right call and that is a great buck.

    • It was what we thought at the time a "gimmie" shot - especially something as weird as what happened to us. Bottom line, hunting is imperfect and things can and will go wrong even in perfect scenarios. I would take or have Aaron take that shot again 10/10. It was close in proximity and I trust Aaron's marksmanship skills, but things happen as you know! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and we appreciate your support on the channel. God bless! ~Erik

  • Aaron congratulations on finding your coyote buck. It's a hard thing to accept. and find peace with what was left. I have left a few different deer or elk overnight in the woods due to it being last light and just enough time to gut it out and come back with help in the morning all those times I would leave my coat draped over the animal's body and it always worked nothing ever chewed on any of them. But then I don't know if anything ever got close enough to find any of them. Thanks for sharing your hunt and take care🙏 Marty

I'm a meat hunter and when I saw the reaction on your face to what had happen to the meat that really hit home for me as I could see the meat was your main concern and that's how it should be. • Aaron. You made the decision you felt was best, be proud of that. Also, good job on taking what meat was left. Not too many anti-hunters will watch your channel, but folks must understand the intentions of a moral hunter. Thanks for representing the community well. Lastly, as much as losing meat is a heartbreaker, the ecosystem greatly benefits by consumption. There are literally high mountain streams where salmon guts are dropped into the water by helicopter. The rotting salmon give back to bears, small fish and vegetation in the water. You're a good hunter.

    • Thanks for your comment, Andrew! The trophy for us is the entire animal and when we aren't able to harvest the meat that we took it's a little depressing, but given the information we had the night we all felt it was the right decision and would make the same decision again with the same information. After-all, like you said, nothing goes to waste in nature!

Unfortunately sometimes other predators beat you to it. When other animals beat you to your animals it’s out of your control, but had you pushed him and lost him that would be on you and worse feeling. Better luck next season

We were more likley than not to push that buck off the ground we had permission on to either another piece of private or a be a public where are tag wasn't good for. Hunting isn't perfect and it's far from it. It's all about learning and trying to be better. Happy to have you on the channel, Scott.
