  • Trust me when I say I hate to be that guy. But in this case, I just have to do it. Keep in mind, I’m usually one vouch for long range hunting, if the shooter and equipment is up to par. Par is a high standard when it comes to long range precision. I know TS customs makes a rifle more than capable, but in this instance, the shooter literally stated he would like a shot within 300 yards. The shooting was well over 2x that, at 660 or whatever. He started off with a a miss or bad hit… who knows. He then followed up with a pretty good shot, but pretty poor shot selection. Bad time to take that shot, as well as the first one! Brush was right in the way. Every time you guys said “this bucks hurtin”, during the pursuit, I was cringing. I don’t feel the shooter was up to the task of delivering a quality shot, in the vitals, at 600+ yards, consistently. Another thing I’ll add. I’ve seen so many videos of wounded game getting back up, after a concussed animal or CNS shot. When does it become the standard, to stay on an animal for 2 minutes, reading body language, after it goes down? I know for a fact, this isn’t the first time something like that has happened to the Muley Freak Team. It can be avoided, most of the time. I appreciate the efforts and recovery of the buck though. I am a Muley Freak fan, and I really appreciate the sacrifices these vets made for the best country in the world. I will also add, I’m far from perfect and have wounded game taking stupid shots. The biggest difference in my case, is I knew I’d made a mistake, and there were lessons learned with each one. I don’t think you guys feel the same way.

    • leave it up. I will leave my own comment. maybe if enough people speak up they will stop making the same mistakes of shooting game at too long of distances and not making follow up shots.

    • We (MF) offer opinions in the field, but ultimately leave discretion up to the hunter (in this case a vet) and the guides who are being paid by the foundation to guide. With that said, we aren’t the guides. The guides are there as you can see. Comments wouldn’t be being posted if the shot was perfect, BUT, since it’s hunting and more often than not an imperfect thing. This sort of imperfect thing you witnessed happen can happen at a 100 yards, 50 yards, and even less, but since it’s not at 100 yards you’re picking the reason why “you believe” it happened and that contributing factor being the distance. If it was a 100 mishap you either a) don’t leave a comment b) choose another reason to hate (although you don’t sound like a hateful individual) we are there for support on this hunt and don’t personally outfit or guide it.

Sausage there's no difference in my opinion, steaks I can never pin point what exactly is different but I always know which one I'm eating. Regardless the both go down happily. Shoot Straight!

  • First and foremost great to see you taking out veterans! I'm not on social media hi-jacked my wives acct. Wondering if your shooter was using that so called wonder bullet that starts with an E and ends with an X? His hits looked good. In one season we had three failures of this bullet between 250 and 350 yds. on one elk and two mule deer, requiring multiple good, usually one and done hits out of 300 WM. Going back to good cup and core bullets or my favorite Nosler. Mule deer or Whitetail? They are what they eat but if one ever gets a chance to take one feeding on Garbanzo beans I highly suggest it. Unbelievable difference in taste and even color of the meat. Helps the farmers out too. Jeff

  • Thanks to our freedom keepers! We would not be able to hunt without all the sacrifice! And when it comes to taste of deer. Well I live in a special location when it comes to blacktail deer country. I hunt river bottom blacktail in the northern Sacramento Valley. They live on the edge of farm land. They just eat better than our blacktail that come out of the hills. I've always hunted out of state for mule deer in Idaho Colorado and Arizona. And hands down blacktail in my opinion is better that an ol mule deer that has been eating sage. But I think the whitetail I get to hunt in Wisconsin are just about as good as it gets. Make your tongue slack the roof of your mouth crazy! Lol

  • 13:55 just to clarify, it does not work like that. Demolition Ranch shot a .50 BMG through a house of cards at 50 yards and it didn't fall over. Bullets missing near things doesn't do anything. It's not an uncommon myth for people to believe though so you're not alone in thinking that. That Nicholas Irving guy (who calls himself the Reaper) is a former Army sniper who believes a .50 BMG will blow your arm off if it misses within a couple feet of you.

    • Don't be so quick to cast judgement. This same thing could have happened at 100 yards. The veteran and guide felt comfortable to take the shot, they lived with the shot, and ultimately worked hard to get the animal down. The bottom line is that our veterans are being provided time in God's mountains away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Enjoy the hunt for what it is.
