    • Morty Smith, Well, It would be something like this: Nothing much would be different when you looked at a Full Moon, as would be like looking at the Day-Side of Earth from space. Looking at a New Moon, however, would be quite the spectacle, as you would see the light blasted off in space from the lunaian structures in shapes recalling, but a lot more organised than, Earth's cities. And all phases in between would be different proportions of both views.

They just tested the Orion, the capsule that will take thw astronauts to the moon and back, in a successful unmanned trip. In a year and a half, they are sending a manned mission to orbit the moon and work on facilitating the trip, and the mission after that will land on it. The missions after that third will focus on establishing a permanent base and setting the foundations for the extraction of lunar resources.

    • The best spots for initial colonies, the lunar poles, would have sunlight 24/7, except, perhaps, for relatively brief intervals of shade, lasting hours. The lack of any significant atmosphere would mean high powered solar energy reaching the collectors 24/7, as well, and covering the initial colonial buildings with a meter or two of lunar regolith would provide adequate protection, leaving the solar collectors exposed. This would be dramatically less expensive than treating lunar regolith with chemicals to create entire structures, requiring only simple bulldozer-type machines to move the regolith around.

    • @@stevencoardvenice People need to stop eating animals in general. Cattle sheds in general are breeding grounds for viruses (see swine flu for a recent example), the amount of antibiotics mixed into their food is rapidly causing bacteria to become resistant to whatever antibiotics we can throw at them, it's a huge waste of agricultural ground that could otherwise be used to feed humans (it takes many kilos of cattle food to create 1 kilo of meat), animal agriculture is a huge source of greenhouse gases causing climate change and last but not least the majority of cattle are kept under circumstances that can only be described as torture. We've already figured from which plant sources we can get the nutrients and vitamins we usually get from animal consumption so there's really no logical reason why we still eat them. If there's one lesson the current COVID pandemic has taught us it's that the Earth cannot sustainably provide meat for 8 billion people.

    • @@darthtiberius3716 Its because of a million different reasons, we spend more money funding our allies and NATO than we do in international aid to 3rd world countries. The simple fact is that the people in countries capable of funding space programs (the first world) face far too many practical day-to-day problems to care about space colonization, like poverty and medical debt. The only reason we had so many advances in the 50's and 60's is because it was internationally motivated by the cold war, it was more about measuring dicks than actual human curiosity in space. Once the competition was over, we stopped caring. However, the biggest barrier to space exploration is simply the division on our own world. Countries are far too worried about enriching themselves more than their neighbors to focus on space travel, we wont see true progression in space until globalization has finally run its course and we stop looking at ourselves as a collection of nations on the globe and start looking at ourselves as earthlings part of something much greater.

Could a moon colony survive if Earth governments decided to cut imports from them? Who would benefit from technology discovered on the moon? How would a war between Earth and moon colonies seeking independence pan out, how hard would it be to achieve independency or to decimate moon colonies?
