    • three years later but quickly throw a towel over the cat wrapping it under his belly as you pick him up in one fast fluid motion. If done correctly the cat won't have enough time to react. Then put him in the cage he'll crawl right of the towel into it. This method works great but only once if you mess it up it'll be 10x harder.

    • I'd say try to gets your cat positively associated with the carrier.Like bring it out when you dont actually need her in it, and have it sitting out. Or better yet, bring it out, and give treats/wet food, or play with her right after. That way she starts to get happy feelings / a feeling of excitement any time you bring out the carrier :)

      @CatsandPats@CatsandPats6 жыл бұрын
    • You could also if possible just take the carrier out and leave it out. Maybe everyday drop a treat in the back of the carrier. She’ll begin to associate the carrier as the place she gets treats then when you need to put your cat in it just drop some treats in the back and close it up

  • The last few months our cats have been in the carriers for interstate air travel and boarding (which means strange people, the worst thing ever). I've been trying to detraumatise the experience with having the carriers around but I think it's going to be a while. At least the most recent move was only a 15-minute drive! They wailed like the end of the world was coming the whole way, expecting a plane trip again. It was nice to be able to let them out and watch them settle.

  • my cat hates carriers, like will fight you tooth and nail. As for the butt first method wont work cause he will use his back legs as well as the front legs to fight back. Last time I took him I got scars from it, and I am not looking forward to next weeks vet appointment with him. However, his older brother should be ok he sleeps in the carrier from time to time. I got a 2 way carrier hoping that helps getting him in it easier since they have gotten a lot bigger since their last vet appointments (you can tell i'm already worried, hence the reason I watched this video).

  • I have had my semi-feral 9mo. old cat for 3mos. he has made great strides in trust, he now plays and sleeps by our legs on the bed and even friended our big dog He is very comfortable in the house! But I still cannot pick him up. He goes ballistic flailing and running for cover and hisses and spats out with his feet. Hates the carrier as well. He must have had a very bad experience as a kitten at the shelter. I think they took them to different. places for adoption days. It took 5 people to get him the day we took him home. I need to get him to the vet and hate to undo all the progress we have made to this point by forcing him or using a towel. how do I slowly get his trust at being picked up. Any help would be appreciated!!

  • Well, your idea worked but do you have any more suggestions, particularly for cat owners who are not as strong and coordinated as their cats? Mine reacted so fast I couldn’t hold her, it resulted in a fall against the TV table which moved about six inches and could have broken the television. I threw a towel over her but she pushed herself out of it in about two seconds. One time I called animal control and that worked but I would like to be able to do it myself.

  • I am really scared. my cat has a big lump near his throat and I believe it is a bee sting or, hopefully not, cancer. I am scared because he is acting weird and scratches it. it's a clear sign that I need to take him to the vet. but I've never taken him to the vet before. I am afraid that it will be hard to put him in the carrier, and if I will manage to get him in he will freak out and hurt himself. I know that I have to take him to the vet but I don't know how. please, if you are reading this comment, tell me what I can do for my cat. I love him so much and I don't want to lose him.

  • so my cats are fairly new, we adopted them at 4 years old, we've had them a few weeks, and they are lovely don't get me wrong...i love cats. but this is the one issue we've had with them...apparently they just HATE cat carriers...when we adopted them it apparently took ages to get them in...but we didn't see that part because the adoption agency took care of that for us. they were complaining all the way back in the car though. now we have to take them to their first vet appointment and the vet isn't far thankfully...but the second the cats SEE the carrier they are like "NOPE" and ran off behind the sofa. which is something they haven't done since the first got here...they are usually very friendly and sociable...even by cat standards. but the second the carrier came out they were just "aw hell no" and fled. we tried a few things but eventually we had to cancel the appointment.
