  • Great video! The stuffed cat scenario was EXACTLY what happens with me. For some reason, my cat just does not trust the carrier.

  • Such a great idea. Lately my cat isn’t allowing me to pick him up these days and idk why. So these training videos are a big help. I have to transfer him back from my moms house to my house soon so these are good.

  • To train my Kitsy to do that, it would take at least 6 months and a lot of hard work...

  • Such a cute kitty! And lots of great advice here. One thing I didn't see mentioned is making sure the blanket smells good/like home to them and having a very clean carrier. If the carrier was previously used for a trip to the vet it might still have lingering fear smell. I try to do a vinegar wash on carriers as soon as they get home because that smell is horrible for us, so I can't imagine how bad it is for them. My kitties love to use carriers as beds, but I really need to work on them getting used to getting locked in and moved as too many times we've moved and they're starting to get really frightened whenever I start loading them up. I really want a command to have them all go inside at once too. I'm so worried about how to get them safe in an emergency since they'll panic from the fire alarm or other unusual sounds and react to my panic.

  • 7:06 I have a playlist of my cat's favorite songs for when she's having a hard time. She really likes "Katey Moss Catwalk" by David Teie, "Ghosting" by Mother Mother, and a lot of classical opera songs.

  • I have 2 rescue cats. Both, when ill, would "willingly" go into their carriers and I have 3 carriers. But when full of heath just for a vaccination, no way can I get one of them in a carrier. And they hate me afterwards if ever I get one in a carrier. I have one old carrier (very fancy about 20 years ago) I haven't tried it yet (it's a sort of hard rafia basket) and worked well for my first 2 rescue cats. Hope, hope, hope !!!!

  • question: what if the carrier in question is a backpack (specifically for cats not JUST a normal backpack haha)? do these steps still apply and are backpacks even safe transport for (short) trips?

  • My cat gets a treat in her carrier every day. If I point to it she will go in. She still throws up in the car though so I put down an old towel.

  • My cat is a old, once feral cat and she won't let me pick her up at all. She'll jump, sleep and love on me but if I try and pick her up, all hell breaks loose. Even if get her used to the crate, she will destroy a vet. What do vet do to cats that won't let you pick them up?

    • Vets are used to this. They have magic. My vet sprays herself with calming pheromones, for example

    • Have a large , hard plastic carrier. Feed her in the carrier for a few weeks before vet visit. Or make it a permanent feeding station. Tie the door open with a shoe lace. Start the food fish near the front ooening or even on the floor in front of the opening. Every couple of days move the dish a few inches back till you can regularly put the dish at the back…. Gabapentin 2 hours before vet visit. Powdered kind hidden in Fussie Cat fishy cat food tuna/ shrimp often a big winner. Make sure cat is real hungry and the gab is in a very small amount of food, so it’s gobbled up. May want to give smaller dose of gab night before vet visit, then a full dose 2 hrs before apt. Verify this with your vet.
