    • If you have one that opens from the top/you can take the top off that will be even better. But essentially, scoop him up in a towel and put him in. Look at some crate training videos for cats though because if he is comfortable getting into/being in the carrier then he will be easier for the staff at the clinic to handle and care for him.

    • Get yourself a roll of gaffer tape, a motorcycle helmet, and a stout pair of welders gloves, easy. My cats a stray a big ginger tom,he eats like a horse cost me a fortune, two cat flaps, the magnetic one he didn't like the magnet round his neck so I taped a fridge magnet to the flap to keep it on open all the while. The second is electronic so I am taking him to Vets Tuesday for chip, the new carrier I've bought ,he looks at it then at me and I swear he slowly shakes his head. I'll surprise him Tuesday morning with the pillow case trick, he wont see that coming. :)

I just had the experience today, which is why I've gotten here. My feline friend has already forgot about the incident but I'll be licking my wounds for the next week!

    • Agreed. It’s clearly easy to show different ways to place a cooperative cat in a carrier. One time it took 3 adults to give him medicine! Last time I tried the towel idea & he kicked so hard he got his way out.I had to cancel the vet appt. On top of that he held it against me for days…. I need to move in 3 days. I hate the idea of upsetting him so much before such a hard transition. Help.

I'll let u know if the pillowcase worked by editing this comment later. Now, if u could help w tips on doing all of this in 118° degrees, w no garage, way to pre-cool the car, another helper, etc., I'll send u $1 USD. Vets are expensive. • Thank you so much for making this. We have a stray cat in our neighborhood who has a bad limp and an attitude to match, we’ve worked on gaining his trust so we can take him to the vet. I’ve been trying to figure out how we would be able to transport him, and it seems like every other video/article on this topic is all about coaxing a docile, agreeable cat who trusts you into their carrier with bribes and cooing over several days. I don’t have time to launch a marketing campaign to get this cat to see the carrier as a lifestyle upgrade. I need to get him in the damn thing today. Thank you thank you thank you.

  • Very good video! I have a vet visit for our cat this week. She is a super smart tuxedo cat. She remembers how I tricked her with treats last year which I tossed into the back of the carrier. She went in like a lamb. This time is different as she remembers and won't go in! This lady demonstrates the different ways very well. I'll still need to pray 🙏 big prayers that I can manage to get her into the carrier. Her nails are razor sharp. She bit me once though I didn't bleed. She is a very gentle cat with the sweetest meow, but she won't be pushed around. Wish someone could do the task for me!

  • Great tips, thank you. We have recently been adopted by a stray cat. She is super docile, smoochy, loves cuddles, play, and was incredibly hungry for the first three days. We cannot yet get her into a carrier. She just says no, does not struggle or scratch. We don't want to insist or traumatise her. I think the towel or pillow technique will work. We will try 'wrapping' her over a few days without putting her in a carrier. We want to get the vet to see whether she has a chip and an owner (because it's clear she has been socialised at some point) and also to find out if she has been spayed. Unless Leo could give her a word of encouragement... He's a star - hope he got a treat off camera!

  • For me wrapping towel works like charm. Because every month I weigh my cat with carrier on a travelers portable scale. The scale is very precise, it is lot less hassle to weigh at home rather dragging her to vet hospital. Remember cats are not dogs, they are picky sometimes baiting food in carrier doesn't work offcourse didn't work for our cat. It is easy to put cat in carrier in the animal shelter or vet place because cat is pretty much stressed and confined and easy to work with, however at home they are more free and jumpy and hard to box them.

I use some masking tape to hold the top door open and then I pick him up under his arms with him facing away from me. If I can get his hind legs in, the rest follows, and I can close the top before he can get out....I just use the tape to lightly hold it open, but it's not sticky enough to prevent me from closing it.

  • All of this is fine if you already have a cooperative cat. When I try any of this, the second my cat sees they are going into either the carrier or the car, they go berserk like you were trying to drop them in a wood chipper. Even trying to wrap a towel around her... good luck with that. And put a pillowcase over them? Not a chance. The best part? My wife can do this with very little difficulty. She must give off the right vibe or something. 😀

  • Only one of my three cats is impossible putting the carrier. The only way I got her to go in before was to put her in the small bathroom and that isn't easy and itself, then sit quietly a few minutes and then put her in the carrier. In the small space she knows there's nowhere to run. I have a bigger carry on type of carrier for her next outing to get a rabies shot which I've been leaving in the bedroom open with a little catnip in it.

  • I have tried all of those tricks on the video and failed miserably. my cat got an inured leg now. She went into the carrier before. Just when I am about to take her to the vet she refused. So here’s what I learned: 1. Type of the carrier matters. Make sure it’s the right sized one if not bigger. Many of the doors are small in the carrier and don’t open all the way. 2. Open Top is always better 3. Easiest carrier is a soft bag type carrier or a carrier that opens all the way for the cat to go in easily. This tilted technique shown in the video will injure an unwilling cat.
