Our first Britespan building is almost full for the winter 2021 lambing season. Shortly we'll be on to the next one as we still have about 100 more Suffolk sheep to lamb. This is how each building is organized while ewes are nursing their lambs.
Amazingly clean and well-kept lambs. Amazing.
Thank you very much! I appreciate you noticing.
Love the lamb races!
Me too. No matter how often you see them, they never get old!
happy people, happy animals. i like it!
Thanks. We love them and vice versa I'm sure. Life is better that way I think! 🙂
Amazing
😊😊
You have a nice robust barn, could you share for me the dimension of this barn ?. The lenght, width and height. Thank you
Our barns are 50 feet wide X 140 feet long. I'm not sure how tall they are.
@@EwetopiaFarms Noted, that is 15.24 Meter (W) x 42.67 Meter (L) and for the height I can be adjusted accordingly. Thank you for the information, I wish I could have a nice-robust barn just like yours in the near future. Thank you very much.
❤️❤️❤️
Great barn. Thanks for sharing. How are you marketing your lambs?
Thanks. Most are breeding stock. Market lambs go to the sales barn at auction.
Hi, congratulations for your animals & setup, could you please tell us How many total ewes and total lambs you have in this barn right now and what would be the max capacity of it? Thank you
When the barns are full, each one holds comfortably - not crammed full - 120 ewes with about 220-240 lambs
👍👍👍...
i am amazed how come this place is so clean , please share
We always put down fresh bedding because healthy sheep need to live in clean conditions.
@@EwetopiaFarms u r doing awesome job ❤️
@@kashifqayum thank you so much!

How do u clean the remaining wastes of Sheeps from the floor? Doesn’t the hay get wet and stinky? Could u pls elaborate. Many tnx
Hi and thanks for your question. In Canada most sheep farmers, including us, use straw as bedding on the barn floors. The straw absorbs most of the urine. When it starts to get dirty, we roll more straw out on top of the old. About 2 or 3 times a year, we use our skidsteer to clean out all the old bedding and replace it with new bedding. We use straw because it is absorbent and because the sheep like to snuggle up in it as it is warm and cosy and comfortable for them. It keeps them clean too. Please watch my videos in the How We Do It section on putting out new straw and cleaning the barns. Thanks!
Why are their backs painted? And, what is the significance of the different colors? TY.
Will try answer this with a video in Q & A tomorrow!
Is the floor in your barns gravel or concrete
Gravel and sand mix. The main barn is concrete but we prefer these floors
Nice which breed is your sheep?
We have Suffolk, Dorset and commercial crosses
Can sheep be raised in these barns year around
Yes, however lambing in January-March in freezing conditions, I wouldn't recommend. They are great once lambs are dry or in warmer weather. I would say they must have curtains though.
Do they need heat in the winter time?
No they are warm enough with their wool coats. In fact they do better in colder temperatures. But they do need shelter from cold winds and getting soaking wet.
What is the main food for the ewes?
Hay - either mixed grasses or alfalfa/grasses mix. They also get corn when necessary- to gain condition, flushing, pregnancy and lactation
is this a pasture raised ?
They are not pastured raised but do go out on pasture
🇨🇦👍👍👍OK 🇺🇸
Are they ever quiet?
All the time except at feeding time
Where are you located at?
We live in Joyceville just northeast of Kingston in Ontario Canada
