  • Allegedly, witches of Olde believed hair was a source of magick -- particularly their own. So the use of hair in Bayonetta's design (extensively, might I add) is actually quite fitting in my opinion.

    • "Madama Butterfly takes her name from the title character of an opera by Giacomo Puccini. Butterfly (also known as Cio-Cio-san) was a Japanese girl who fell in love with an American serviceman, who married her for convenience with the intention of leaving her once he found a proper American wife. Butterfly would have a child by him and wait three years for his return, only to see him arrive with his new wife, who had agreed with him to raise Butterfly's child as their own. Heartbroken, Butterfly agreed to give up the child to the couple before taking her own life by means of using her father's knife to commit jigai, a female form of seppuku, to preserve her honor." According to the Bayonetta Wiki. bayonetta.wikia.com/wiki/Madama_Butterfly I don't know how true either is unless Kamiya said it himself.

  • I think the fact of Balder bringing young Cereza to the present, is the fact that Cereza, was imprisoned and an outcast. She couldn't grow like a normal witch, so having a role model (present Bayonetta) she grew confident. That's why Jeanne was always like ''The fear is still in your eyes''. And we see how young Cereza starts to imitate Bayonetta, and the last speak Bayo gives to Cereza in her bedroom telling her how strong she is, could've made the timeline change (or at least, Bayonetta's personality) as we see the scene ''I'm not afraid anymore, mummy. There is nothing i can not do'' awakening the Left Eye, and that's how Balder can finally summon Jubileus. Or at least, that's how i interpreted it. It's true, the story has some issues, but is only on the pacing factor. I think the story overall is pretty good, just it wasn't told the best way. Also, such a great video. I can see all the effort and days of editing and research you spent on the making of this video. I'm not used to give ''Likes'' to videos, but this truly deserves it. Amazing work.

    • I know I’m late but Bayonetta awakened the left eye since she altered time and Jeanne ended up not sealing her memories since like you said, she was not afraid anymore.Well, her Umbran watch saved her since she always kept it close to her heart and Jeanne hit her watch.

Too much power to management and the project may be cut short to fit a specific release window, or it may turn into a byproduct of trends. You need a balance of those two aspects for it to work out the best way possible

  • Bayonetta has got to be one of my favourite female character designs, in any video game and even just pop culture overall, not just because she is attractive either. There are many attractive females that are easy on the eyes in games, but her design is just so elegant and sleek, her long legs make her look almost like a runway model, especially with those outfits she wears, it makes her stand out from the rest. She is one of the most recognizable characters ever created, a very iconic and distinct design, not just as a female, but as a character design in general. In fact she very easily passes, a character silhouette test. Her artist did phenomenal work creating her look that's for sure, a lot of effort went into her creation and it shows. She's a one of kind

  • Imo Bayonetta is sexy female characters done right. She owns her sexuality and the cutscenes are appropriate in terms of like- what they’re conveying. There’s no butt-shots during her interactions with Cereza for example, which is good because it’s an adorable scene with a child. Sexy but not Over-sexualised. It’s not like Mass Effect for example where female characters (especially Miranda bless her) were ‘shown off’ in the most out of place moments just for the sake of it. It felt creepy. I say this as a feminist and a huge lesbian.

  • Also I like the path that it took for her "hair down form" to be incorporated into the game. In normal gameplay it looked bad because it blocked sight from what she was doing, but in the final game she only uses it against giant bosses that force the camera to pull back away from her and all her attacks cause wicked weaves. In these situations your sight is drawn more to the boss than Bayo, so it makes sense.

  • A large part about feminism is that women must be in control of their sexuality, and whenever the man is in control of it is when abuse happens. An unequal part of being a woman is not being able to show sexuality without being abused or objectivized, while men can go around shirtless and show open masculinity without having this happen to them (with counted exceptions). Real feminists claim that women have been oppressed by their own sex, it being seen as a bad thing in society: a source of both physical and mental weakness that will only attract abuse. This is what they want to change. Real feminists fight against the abuse that stems from not being able to be in control, which is why they sometimes march topless and support sex workers. So yeah, *Bayonetta IS a feminist power fantasy*, as she imposes her femininity and knowingly uses it as a source of mental and physical strength. This is on her core. She fights angels because historically the catholic church has pushed towards the repression of femininity. She's intelligent and in control of her movements. A large part of her arc is her accepting little Cerezita (a representation of her interior weakness, so shes not a mary sue, and maternity) and embracing the motherly side of feminity she once rejected. Being a mother is something that has been used to repress feminity too, after all, pushing the idea that its women's role to preserve the human race by bearing children, in turn becoming weaker and less independant because of pregnancy and having to raise a child. Bayonetta twists this and turns it into something that makes her stronger.

    • I have to disagree (with this one part of your comment). Men walking around shirtless has nothing to do with showing their sexuality. The defining sexual trait of a man is his penis. Women on the other hand have two defining traits. The vagina and the breasts. Therefore it is a difference whether a man is walking around shirtless or a woman, because the woman is showing her sexuality and the man doesn't. So women who are are walking around shirtless are not equalizing themself with men, they takings rights "not even" a man has, in showing sexual traits. So women who are walking revealing there breasts, to show that they are equal to men, are not showing that at all. The is message is, that they are greater than men, because they can reveal sexual traits without "consequences". And that is something that bothers me, because I am someone who wants equalization and not domination ( neither a man or a woman should dominate). I hope I could articulate myself in the right way. I not that good with words, so I hope that no one will misunderstand my comment. I do agree with your comment, but I think showing sexual traits is not the right way for women to emancipate/equalizing themself from men.

Every game looks really dark, with edgy, hypermasculine protagonists and graphics (except for nightmare before Christmas maybe). The second the Bayonetta clips cut in, it immediately stands out as more sleek and flashy rather than gritty and cool. I can see how this change in aesthetic was refreshing at the time, especially when combined with bayonetta’s campy tone. Bayo 2 pushes this harder by really pulling the color palette out of the browns and reds of the time

  • I play the hell out of B1 and B2. The only flaw for B1 I had was QTE. That was dumb for the wrong reason because of the instant death. This game legacy will keep the DMC spirit alive until the inevitable DMC5. Seeing HD collection on PC and modern console with DMC1 collab with Monster Hunter World? E3 can't com sooner enough. Interestingly enough, P+ had to play DMC3 and DMC4 several time just to create the fluid combat system but also wanted to differentiate themselves. Since DMC3 and DMC4 had the most hardcore Fighting Game mechanic thanks for the Third Strike background, Bayonetta approached it with the middle ground but still complex to an extend, especially the parry system that came from Onimusha and Sengoku Basara. They don't want to go full Third Strike with Royal Bock from DMC. Admittedly, Royal Guard would deal the most damage and most broken if mastered for the SS Rank for DMC if did correctly. However, mastering Royal Guard was like you are playing a fighting game with frame perfect block unlike Parry.

  • 2:35 “Bayonetta can be credited for keeping character action games alive when Devil May Cry wasn’t around.” Bayo 1 released only 1 year after DMC4 and Bayo 2 released only 1 year after DmC. Character action games were still alive even without Bayonetta

  • Bayonetta is a good example of how over the top set pieces both in action and sexiness can detract from the story. Did you know there are collectable notes that expand on the lore of Bayonetta? They are an interesting read. If you compare it to DMC, Bayonetta doesn't take its story seriously at all. DMC tries to take it seriously. Bayonetta 2 is more serious but the writing isn't strong enough. Bayonetta is a fun character but she's not given the correct plot to make her truly lovable. If you ask anyone why they like Bayonetta as a character it would be because she's very over the top and confident in her body but that rarely affect the plot. We like DMC3 Dante because he up holds his father's legacy while grieving for his brother. We like Vergil because he believes he needs power to protect the ones he loves. We like these characters beyond their attitude. Sadly I can't say the same for Bayonetta. She's trying to save Jeanne in 2 but the plot isn't really about saving Jeanne. The scenes with Cereza are cute but it's just Bayonetta being Bayonetta. A game that features her and Jeanne's friendship being tested.would be great. It would give a chance for Bayonetta to show more character and it would give the writers a chance to flesh out Jeanne who really isn't that distinct from Bayonetta. Which is a big problem for such a prominent character. I get that the idea is that they're supposed to be more Ryu and Ken similar than Dante and Vergil different but it just makes Jeanne not have an identity. It doesn't help that they play almost exactly the same thus removing even more opportunity to set them apart in personality. And yes Ryu and Ken have almost the same moveset but they have very different personalities and even the slight differences in their moveset highlighted the differences in their personalities. In Bayonetta 3 Jeanne should play differently from Bayonetta and be her own character.

    @BlueLightningSky@BlueLightningSky5 жыл бұрын
    • Jeanne does play differently from Bayonetta. She has higher damage output, different timings, and her own weapons and lore.

      @KaitouKaiju@KaitouKaiju3 жыл бұрын
    • What? No, I like Dante because he’s a fun character to watch, and I like Vergil because he’s cool, full stop. The plot only adds to what makes them likeable, same as Bayonetta, difference is the plot is much harder to follow, but that doesn’t matter.

  • I'm really looking forward to your coverage of Bayo 2. While I loved the story of the first game, it was admittedly a bit of a mess in terms of pacing and convoluted-ness (that's a word now, I'm trademarking it), which is why I find the sequel fascinating from a narrative standpoint. In my eyes at least, it's 2 stories folded into one. The first being a very personal journey to save a friend, while the other is... essentially explaining the first game and making things feel more... I hate to say natural, but less convoluted. (A god of Chaos being introduced into the mix goes a long way to explain how the cork board conspiracy theory approach to scheming actually being a plausible thing.) It's one of the few sequels that I would say is just as easy to get into the lore with as the first game, while still being a continuation.

    • Also, to address the "Is this sexist" thing... I recently heard a quote from a stream that summed my thoughts up very succinctly. "She's filled to the brim with sexiness and confidence... but none of it is for you." It's that agency that I think elevates her above just being eye candy. Also, while there is that male gaze element, but I do find it important that at no point does ANY of the cast bring up any mention of her sexuality or gender. Nobody questions whether or not she's straight, in fact her interactions with Luka and Jeanne leave that very ambiguous in a good way, nor is there any "...for a girl" remark in the game. Any of the conversations that happen, you could do a find and replace search replacing Bayonetta with Dante, and Umbra Witch with Demon, and they wouldn't seem out of place, which I think speaks to the respect Kamiya and the team has for the character. While the initial thought that got the ball rolling was "What if a woman?" they made her a fully realized character like they would've with any male character. But, it's 3am and I've been binging on your videos and I've entered the rambling delirium I get when I"ve been awake for too long so I'll finish the binge tomorrow.

  • What lured me into Bayonetta was bayo herself. Admittedly, the only reason why I wanted to play the game was because I thought she was hot lolo, but a bit of a deeper dive into the game and the character, I realized that she's so unique and different than your average video game woman protagonist. I feel like bayo is such a feminist icon, she's so different in the way she uses her sexuality, instead of her being a creation for male consumption, she's sexy for herself, it's her genuine personality, plus she's in charge of everything which is so refreshing to see a more dominant woman character. And I love that the one time she gets saved, it's by another woman. So yes, Bayonetta herself is one of a kind, and despite not being a huge gamer, I feel like bayo is so unique, and that's what really got me into the game. 💓

And that he brought bingo morihashi, the Writer for 3,4, and 5 on to write bayo 2. • Excellent coverage of the journey from Kamiya & his team. I have always enjoyed the lore, world building, and vast gameplay that pushes the boundaries of a player. DMC was a unique chapter to dive into. There are current games influenced by it, but not as fun. But Bayonetta is a dazzling rollercoaster ride. It's wild that it has been 10 years since the Umbra witch danced across our screens, and hearts. So thankful for games like this, daring to be different, yet fun, provocative, and still entertaining. I cannot find any other series to compare Bayonetta. She has her own identity, yet is part of a vast universe. I love what it's become, and the team behind the series is incredible. Yes it's bizarre, but damn is it fun. I love the voice acting crew, the music, and atmosphere constantly on a rollercoaster ride. And that boss battle = insane but how many titles are that gutsy right now? None. That's what makes it so special. Ten years ago this game captured our hearts. Totally worth revisiting again. And I cannot wait to dive in again. 😅 I have been blocked by Kamiya as well. But it's an honor, a right of passage for us.

They both limit the player to a frustrating degree, and really go against the freeform flow of the rest of the game. Whenever I think of replaying this game, I always dread having to do the motorcycle section or the rocket section near the end.

Film reels can be seen in cutscenes and in the menu as if the player were watching a film of bayonetta. This could also be why she dances and uses enemies weapons as stipper poles; she's showing off to you.
