You ask all the best questions, you listen carefully, you let your guests answer properly, and you follow up with questions that are completely relevant and on-point. I find other news interviewers annoying, such as the way they interrupt constantly or repeat irrelevant questions, but not you. Everything you do is slick and professional. You show genuine interest in what your guests have to say and you develop a good rapport with them, getting the very best out of your allotted time. I always watch your interviews from beginning to end because they are a pleasure and I gain from them. Thank you, and please don't ever stop your fantastic work!

So you should use these right, which i think today, sans air cover, you do not want to get near action without artillery peppering positions in front of it. CUZ you do not want to be engaging fortified AT positions and artillery, so those guys have to be forced into their holes so its just tank on tank, where it should be no problem. First batch of Danish L1A5 tanks arrived in Ukraine today, many - many more to come.

The right handgrip was the accelerator just like a motorcycle. There was one pedal on the floor - the brake. Your point is very valid about training Reservists and National Guard because almost any soldier who ever rode a motorcycle can drive an Abrams. The unusual thing is instead of hearing a "Vroom, vroom", you hear a jet engine gradually increasing its whine.

Given the penetrative capabilities (oooh missus) of modern ATGMs and Tank rounds there is little to nothing that can stop tanks being damaged. • Any tank is just a tank. We shouldn't overestimate what they can do, given the circumstances there, and not underestimate what the Russians have to fight them. For the crew, I rather would sit in a Challenger or Leopard when hitting a mine, or being shelled, than in a T-72. For sure! After all these analyses, how useful western tanks are, the main obstacle are the huge amount of mines. Mineclearing equipment is even more helpful than any tank or IFV's. Reconnaissance is the most important to detect and clear the frontline from mines (anti-tank mines). Ukraine needs drones with IR sensoric and, besides mine clearing vehicles, maybe cheap drones which are able to detonate those mines. Idk why such drones not already exist, 500g C4 should be enough for a mine. A 300-500$ suicide drone (inclusive cheap optics/IR head) would be very useful when we can save a tank and crew.

Mines, drones, & new anti-armour systems (not including modern artillery!) are turning out to be a serious bane to tanks. Also one must consider defensive terrain modifications like dragons teeth & trenches. The current conflict indicates that the role of the tank in modern warfare needs alot of rethinking. A drone costing less than $500 takes out a tank costing millions of dollars. One tends to forget the people who are winning the war are the arms manufacturers!

  • The only real minor issue I have is that the Government upped the number of tanks to be delivered from 14 to 28 gun tanks (plus armoured recovery and other support vehicles) a couple of weeks after the first announcement. Is it just the case that the second half of those promised deliveries have not been made? I assume at least some of them would have required at least some level of refurbishment? Or was it an honest mistake? If it was a mistake I do not think it was anything other than an honest one, the rest of the interview Hamish was superb. People make mistakes sometimes, even in our expert fields. I once got the taxonomical name of a species I had worked with for over a decade wrong every time in an hour long lecture once. Of course, in that time, it was figured that each tank would or should remove 10 Russian tanks. So, with Russia actually playing out that hot war in Ukraine, our Western equipment is lasting much longer than what was predicted against the Soviet Union. And, despite what the bots might try to say, Russia is all in on Ukraine.

The only draw backs to the Abrams and Challenger are whether the end users have the technology and equipment to maintain it. It’s designed to operate from the frozen tundra of Alaska to the swamps of Louisiana, from the desserts of Arizona to the mountain woodland of Tennessee. Americans know how to build tanks with power trains that don’t break down; we built some of the most reliable armored vehicles in history. • Weren't we previously told the Abrams was so complicated and would take much training,?

    • The turbine engine is a different beast from the usual diesels that are used. The crews need training, however the real bottle neck is the mechanics that have to be specially trained to maintain them.

    • Its lighter and more powerful than the diesels but you have to supply jet fuel forward... not an easy or safe job.. with any fuel and logistics is always an issue in strike range. The other issue is heat the infra red signature builds up fast on a gas turbine.. 🤔 so harder to hide? So probably better deployed in a breakthrough charge. Rather than stop go movement sniping.

    • I second the other guy who commented, the issue with Abrams is not crew training, but maintenance personnel training. That turbine engine is unlike anything else anyone else uses, and its incredibly complex even compared to the full power pack of a Challenger II or Leopard II. Going to take time to train the mechanics to repair and properly maintain them.

  • The Challenger 2 turret was torn off. Minor damage 😂😂😂😂 I remembered a joke: A cowboy gallops through the city and shoots in the air. The sheriff's deputy asks, who is this? The sheriff replies, "Elusive Joe". Deputy sheriff, why was he called that? Sheriff, because no one caught it. Deputy sheriff, why? Sheriff, because no one needs him🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • @@dpelpal Kharkiv offensive was mostly empty ground. Poor Russian leadership and less than 5K soldiers defending that territory mostly being Chechens. That is why if you watch videos from Civ Div there is almost no combat. The Ukrainians were just sweeping through. In Kherson only due to Himars did the Ukrainians cut off Russian supply lines. The Ukrainians did not forcefully push the Russians out like the Russians did to the Ukrainians in Bhakmut and failed to encircle any Russian unit. Then the Russians conducted several large river crossing and still have fire control on Kherson. Obviously for a smoothbrain like you who can't comprehend that it must be difficult to understand. But look at this new spring/summer/winter/halloween/christmas/new years offensive. In 3 months losing over a third of NATO equipment the Ukrainians have taken Robotine (a village of 480 occupants) and have yet to surpass another 4 lines of extensive Russian lines. That is why this offensive has not mirrored previous offensives because A) Russians are not running away B) Ukraine cannot cut off supply lines. So now after tens of thousands of casualties and rain season starting to come in they only have Robotine to show for it.
