  • Out of all the belt adapters I've seen, this by far exceeds them all for ingenuity, and for sourcing parts. How simple this is with some MDF, 1/4" steel plate, washers, a strut, and the best was using the bicycle hubs instead of over priced wheels and bearings. One of these adapters sell for at least $175.00 US dollars and this cost him a few bucks for the hubs and sand paper. Blows me away how resourceful people can be. Thank you for sharing. I've saved this to my favorites so I can make one too!!! God bless you sir.

  • HOORAH!! At last, and accessible belt grinder build 😃 I have a bench grinder but only really use one side and as it happens, I'm very much in need of a belt grinder. I think the only thing I would do differently is to make the table adjustable so it can be set to specific angles but other than that, it's a perfect and easy to accomplish solution. Thank you so much for documenting and sharing your project, you have done a great service and I will be sure to credit you for your very clever idea when i get round to making mine 😉

I would not weld the base grind plate but make it bolt on with two bolts so you can have different base plate options. Love the small shock as the tension and adjustable middle wheel to dial in tracking. Two thumbs way up!

While seeing some of the other DIYs, there was a lot of lathe and milling involved, and i always thought they could use a teflon to make the drive roller and old bicycle wheels to make the rollers and you did all of those. Absolutely amazing. You indeed are a kamal! Respects from Pakistan. I have subscribed to your channel and looking forward to more of your work.

  • Awesome conversion! Just a tip for the future: I've made a bench grinder conversion like this in the past, and found that leaving the stone on is a must, because it works like a flywheel. Without it the belt would easily slow down to a stop with barely any pressure. I didn't notice if you did it, but the rear wheel that you adjust the belt with, should be slightly barrel shaped to keep the belt adjusted easier

    @davidl6566@davidl65664 жыл бұрын
    • Really good tips! I hate mentioning this, but some lucky bastard will find this comment. The only good bench grinders ever made were "Dunlap" and "Craftsman." They cost a billion dollars online used, or some complete moron might let you borrow theirs. They are so much better than other grinders that they are only bench grinders worth owning, and you can take your other one IMMEDIATELY to the scrapyard. You cannot slow or stop the motor on a Craftsman grinder, you can stick a pipe into the wheel and try to stop it, and it won't stop, they are dangerously overpowered (but awesome). I have one rated for "1/2" horsepower. I might turn it into a belt grinder, because it has the power to do it.

  • It's cool seeing arc welders or "stick welders." You don't see arc welders at all in American shops anymore. People use MIG or TIG. It's shocking how many people have a $5,000 TIG welding setup. WOW, I can't believe how round and accurate you got the tensioner and guide pulleys on this. The belt looks glassy smooth. Most of the videos I've seen of home builds, they use a big expensive lathe, and their belt still shakes around quite a bit from the parts being slightly out of round. That's incredible that you used bicycle hubs, and were able to make it so smooth.

    • At first I thought that too, but then... he's a carpenter, not a machinist, so maybe that level of precision grinding isn't required? Then again, if he does find he needs it, I don't suppose it'll be a problem for him to fix it how he wants, he seems like a pretty resourceful kinda guy!!
