  • When Gus heard the boy was poisoned, you see his face change. The first time watching it, you don't know if it was him or not, so knowing Gus, ur first instinct is to take it as a threat. It was actually Gus realizing that something was wrong with the picture. Walt gets fired, then suddenly Brock gets "mysteriously" poisoned, shutting down production, and getting Gus to the hospital where he isn't under surveillance. He put two, and two together, and decided not to take the only chance he gave Walter at this point. He was a smart cookie.

  • N: "This episide gave me a headache" S: "This is so crazy. These last 2 episodes left me with my head spinning in circles." BB: Hold my beer 🍺 Gus Fring is supposedly the smartest guy in the show. Back in S4E4 Tio refers to him as "Grand Generalissimo" implying he was part of dictator Pinochet's military/regime in Chile. This may be why Hank couldn't find any trace of a "Gustavo Fring" in Chile before Pinochet's fall. I always suspected Fring was some high level enforcer for Pinochet, essentially a war criminal who remade his life in Mexico. Explains his Machiavellian scheming, keen survival instincts, & utter ruthlessness. 😱 🕵 💣 🚬

    • @@jimmackey6110 It's hard to catch on 1st watch. There are a few moments in early S4 where someone snarkily alludes to Fring's backstory/origins, primarily at the casa Cartel in Mexico. Don Eladio spares Gus for some reason...perhaps aware of who he really is as he addresses him with total hostility as "the Chilean". He practically spits the title out. And the story pointing to an identity change after Pinochet's fall...entry into Mexico and the US in the mid-80's lines up perfectly with Pinochet being investigated and brought down for human rights abuses. Gus is definitely someone hella scary. Would also explain his super long wait to get even with the cartel after his friend/lover was killed - he couldn't risk blowing his new identity/life. Less likely, but possible: Gus had to flee Chile/Pinochet because of his homosexuality (vaguely hinted at by Eladio & co.). The ultra-right wing of that regime would've killed any homosexual they got their hands on. But that doesn't explain Tio's nickname, or Don Eladio's hesitation to kill Gus. Him being part of Pinochet's govt/secret police does.

  • Podcast Notes: End Times (#7 is hilarious) Guests: producer Diane Mercer; co-exec producer Melissa Bernstein; Aaron Paul; composer Dave Porter; co-writer Tom Shnauz 1. Vince directed this episode. There was a scene that was written where Jesse ran to Saul’s office before going to Walt’s, but it was cut before shooting. 2. Tom doesn’t believe he wrote Walt pressing the gun to his head and saying “DO IT! DO IT!”, but that it was added on set. Vince forgot it wasn’t written. Vince didn’t realize the gun left the mark on Walt’s forehead until he saw the edits! Aaron said Bryan added the grabbing of the gun & pressing it into his head & they did it in one take. 3. A Newsweek reporter was on set the day that scene was shot; it was the hardest day Vince had directed...things weren’t working, and he felt he was failing. But looking back, he freaked out over nothing - the performances were fantastic. Vince felt he didn’t know what he was doing, but the actors made the scene amazing. 4. There was another scene not shot with Jesse & Walt brainstorming at the kitchen table. Jesse is throwing out ideas for what to do to get to Gus, and it’s all stuff Walt has already tried (storm the restaurant, go to his house, etc) 5. There were actual DEA agents visiting the set the day Gomez goes to the laundry. They pointed out some mistakes & Vince adjusted while still doing some things not exactly how they’d do it bc tv reasons. 6. The dog was a NM state police dog named Sasha 😍 Handlers carry a little actual pot on them/in the car that another person will hide for the dog to find because they get disheartened when they don’t find anything. 💕 7. Aaron gets approached on the street by people asking for drugs/blue...and by people saying “what are you doing! You idiot! You’re going to get everyone killed!” And by people telling him he looks like the guy on BB. And one guy said, when he was wearing the Steve Aoki shirt (white with the silhouette of his hair & moustache) he wore in Problem Dog, “OMG! That shirt was on Breaking Bad! Do you guys watch that show? Where did you get that shirt!!?” 🤣 Aaron’s friend was like...but...do you know _him?_ and the guy was blank...so his friend said “he plays Jesse!” And the guy lost it, put his face in his hands, was SOOO embarrassed! 8. The 💣 Walt was cooking was the same kind Timothy McVeigh used at Oklahoma City 9. The hospital they film in was sold to new owners, and part of the deal was that it couldn’t be used as a hospital for a period of 5 years, so it’s been rented out to different films and tv productions 10. How does Gus know? They’re very cheeky in not answering. Vince says Gus is the smartest guy we’ve seen in the show, Walt included. Gus definitely doesn’t see Walt physically on the other rooftop.

  • Just something to add how talented the crew on this show is/was: I read a while back that the gun spinning on the table was connected to a wire, or some sort of device to make it hit those exact spots the three times, but it got reflected in the glass surface of the table, and could be seen underneath, as it is see-through, so they CGI'ed the table completely in shots where the gun spins on it. Very impressive, looks like a real table, and like nothing changed.

  • That scene between Walt and Jesse is one of the most intense scenes I have ever witness when I first saw it back in the day! Great acting from Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul. A little trivia: During filming of that scene when Jesse points the gun at Walt. Bryan Cranston improvise by grabbing Aaron Paul's hand and pushing the barrel of the gun into his forehead hard which cause that mark on his forehead. It shocked everyone there and Aaron most of all hence that great and real reaction he gave, but this scene also add another layer into the overall story between Walt and Jesse's relationship arc because ultimately what is Jesse's greatest regret killing Gale, an innocent man. Now, again Jesse's at another crossroad, but with someone he knows, Walt, not only that but someone deep down he cares about. And another cool little tidbit with this scene proves Jesse is not a monster like he thinks he is or like he's been trying to convince himself he is throughout the pervious episodes. Up until this scene, now he proved to himself he's not a monster.

The funny thing about it is, once you realize that it's a coping mechanism for him, you kinda let him get away with it. And sometimes, he's pretty freaking funny - even when it's inappropriate. 🤭🤣

I watched the show since the pilot premiered and I remember season 4 and 5 being so damn good that the week wait between each episode felt torturous. And no television show or season has ever come close to season 5 of breaking bad. And i don’t think anything will. The only thing close to breaking bad in my opinion is the sopranos.

Did you know him?" "Ha. Oh, my God. What? What exactly did I say last night?" "Just enough. Did you work together? Who killed him? Was it the people you work for?" "Definitely not." • When you said that you now have a headache from watching the ending of this episode. Just know that you're not the only one. The composer who scored this episode and Vince Gilligan said that they really wanted the audience to not only understand the gravity of what was happening, but they wanted the audience to actually feel what Walt was going through. Walt was nervous, scared & ultimately feels defeated at episodes end. That score was supposed to be loud and make your ears rings, subsequently giving the person a headache. You feel sick and your head hurts just like Walt feels because he knows that he has doomed his entire family. I felt sick and had a headache after this episode also. Shit, I had a headache and felt sick just watching the reaction. Just know that sick feeling and headache was a planned idea from Vince Gilligan and the Episode's Composer, Dave Porter...
