if Mike looks scared, it's a very serious situation. end of story
Mike isn't scared. He's shocked and upset. Victor was a 'friend' and partner. He probably knew him for a long time.
@@oodjee I had a guy, and now I don't. You are not the guy.
@@oodjee no watch better call saul he only met him after he started working for gus
@@oodjee he wasn’t upset, that wasn’t a friend it was a colleague. He’d only known him a short period after meeting Gus. He was shocked because no one expected Gus to kill HIM.
@@christaylor3911 Yes, I said that he was indeed shocked.. and yeah, colleague is likely more accurate, but how do you know he didn't care about Victor? He cared about Jesse after all, didn't he? He didnt know Jesse for long either.
I love how Mike’s first instinct was to aim his gun at Gus. There’s still a bit of cop in him somewhere.
Wow I never noticed that
That’s even darker now that you said it
I like to think Mike raise his gun purely out of fear and shock.
Victor was useless to Gus at this point. First, he was seen at the crime scene (mistake number one), he started cooking without Gus asking him to do it (mistake number two) and he was no real chemist and didn't show any respect about the chemistry or purity of the product (mistake number three). He needed to go, so he killed him to "make a statement".
J.F.L. Bousquet All the while looking at Walt like, “you know I wish this were you”
I think it was also to show Walt that his actions have consequences. Walt was going on about how Victor wouldn't be able to do it as if he thought Gus would simply move him somewhere else like he did Gale. Gus made them watch as if to say 'You got this guy killed Walter'.
Yes! Gus had, at the time, in his mind, no other real economically beneficial alternatives. Gale told Gus that Walt was THE master cook, and simply, Gus needed Walt. Gus stated to Gale he could not be without a cook for any length of time. Gus knew that Victor, even if he knew all the steps of production, could not produce a product even nearly as pure as Gale, let alone Walt. Plus Victor was a liability once he overstepped his authority, and yes, was foolishly seen at the crime scene, but I don’t think Gus knew that detail yet. Gus did not kill Jesse only because of Walt and that was partly what was driving his anger. To back up: I think Gus ordered the hit on Tomas, hoping Jesse would fall into the trap and conveniently be gunned down by drug dealers. Case closed. But Walt intervened (a second time) and thwarted Gus plan. This is why, in Gus’ mind, Walt needed to be killed. The extremely neat and tidy Gus has loose ends and loose cannons in his business, and it is making him very angry, but he can’t kill Walt and can’t kill Jesse because of Walt. Excellently played by Giancarlo Esposito.

Well.. he flew too close to the sun... got his throat cut.

That cut between the bloody mop and the fries with ketchup is so good
When I first saw the jump cuts between Sam cooking stew and emptying chamber pots in GoT S7 it immediately reminded me of this moment. Gross and funny.
Match cut!
Breaking Bad is a masterclass in editing.
the smeared blood reminded me of ketchup. lost my shit when real ketchup appeared
I REWINDED THAT 30TIMES. JUST TO SEE NIKKI REACT 😭😭
The way Gus stares down Walt and Jesse, after Victor is dead, is amazing. Walt is terrified. Jesse looks Gus right in the eyes. Gus sees this. Everyone in this scene is a phenomenal actor! Damn!
Agreed, the episode is brilliantly written and performed beyond what even the writers envisioned, I'm sure. The way Jesse develops a defiant look in his eyes and slowly leans forward is masterful. You can't quite tell if he's thinking "come at me, bitch" or if he's resolving himself that he's next to die and he's ready for all this shit to end.
I love that Gus looks at everyone's faces, and they're all in fear ... except Jesse at 15:45 . Jesse actually looks like he's ready to fight for his life, and Gus kinda senses it.
@@servertest Exactly, I can't tell if it's a "I see you, bitch, I am not scared" or "okay, you mean business, I get it" face, the acting is really good. Even Victor did a real good death scene.
@@syabri2342 Yes, Jesse has seen some shit. And just shot a man up close. It's so tense!

Being a Breaking Bad fanatic, I can only relive the series through the eyes of others that watch it for the first time. You guys are great. I feel like I'm watching it for the first time too. Thanks.
Same here
Watch the series for the first time last September/October... I truly love the first three seasons, watch them in few weeks. But seasons 4 and 5.. Damn. They still haunt me today. Masterpieces
One of the only shows that actually got better and ended on its peak. Masterpiece of television for sure.
Yup, Ozymandias is one of the best, if not THE best episode of any show.
The shield got better with every season as well.
@@safeashouses211 Same with the Wire. It's rare tho for even truly great shows to be that consistent.
@@system0fadowner251 I'd love to see N & S react to The Wire, especially after Steven mentioning "realism".
Remember the people who said Breaking Bad wouldn’t be a good show for reactions? RIP those people.
Charles Watson Sr. - I don’t know. Most people were all for it and it got the most votes for their next show, but there were plenty of comments saying that it’d be a boring show to react to. Makes zero sense to me.
I truly believe those ppl haven't seen the show.
breaking bad is a great show to react to and it has not yet disappointed. better call saul tho....thats a different story. that is not a good show.
@@lordschwann5417 Better Call Saul is my 2nd favorite show to Breaking Bad. Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould are masters of their craft.
i thought saul was boring. great acting dont get me wrong and the brother character (forgot his name) was fantastic. but overall it wasnt as interesting. my opinion of course and to be fair it did pick up in season 3.
"Gael's death is on YOU, not me!!". One of the things that continually amazes me about Walt is his ability to completely dissociate himself from his actions and the consequences of them, and never hold himself accountable. It's always someone else's fault, it's always "I had not choice".
Right?! It's so scary.
pulkmees in walts mind gus forced him to do it
@@pulkmees It was the only way to save his own ass though.
It’s why I hate him so much. Never accountable and always getting people killed.
@@dgurlie-0273 and it's not even just that, it's the fa t that people Worship him for it. It's crazy. I'm very very curious to see how Steve and Nicki feel about him as we get into the last season, because by then I personally hated him with every fiber of my being, but I had to finish the show to see how it ended.
Nikki: "I'm scared for Gus" LOL.
The difference between Walt's and Jessie's reaction to Gus' box cutter massacre was prime visual storytelling and showcasing character development. The way Jessie was casually eating in the diner shows why he was crying so desperately while pointing the gun at Gale and pulling the trigger. That moment something died inside of him and he knew there was no going back. Tragic, but God what excellent writing and characterization.
When you were wondering why Gus hadn't said anything the only thing I was thinking was Tywin's quote: "Any man who must say, I am the king, is no true king."
Well... Tell this to Ragnar Lothbrok!
I love the Pulp Fiction reference at the restaurant, wearing casual clothes, discussing right after cleaning up some shit. Even the colors and angles are identical.
Indeed. And the new, ill-fitting t-shirts
It's not a Pulp Fiction reference! That's like saying when Mike points a gun at somebody it's a reference to James Bond! You're talking absolute bollocks! 🤣
@@amazingusername8925 It's not actually bollocks because Vince hinself said so, so... Besides it's pretty obvious unless you're blind.
@@amazingusername8925 dumbass lol
Among other reasons, he also kills Victor because he started a cook without Gus’ permission. Basically a sign of disrespect. He flew too close to the sun.
Mrzanetti100 ya I see what you did there bud
Mrzanetti100 ill see u on the dark side of the moon
I don't think Gus cares much about stuff like disrespect. He only does things for pragmatic reasons. And his decisions are based only on those reasons.
Gus isn't petty enough to kill someone for disrespecting him
@@hunterlee3353what did he do there?
God, Giancarlo Esposito (Gus) is absolutely incredible. He gives me chills. I love how genuine your reactions are. You’re just as invested as we are! It’s especially fun to see it again through your eyes. Also Steven YES for the Don’t Mom the Babysitter’s Dead reference
Yeah, that's the season where Nikki and Steven better start having their doctor standing by off-camera.
My take on that scene while I was seeing it for the first time when it originally aired... Gus had just gotten severely outmaneuvered, and was so enraged that he now just wanted to kill Walt himself... but knew he couldn't. With Gale gone, killing Walt and/or Jesse would bring his meth empire to a screeching halt... which couldn't be allowed to happen for numerous reasons. So, since Victor had been seen at the crime scene, and since he was the most expendable... Gus sent a shockingly visual / non-verbal message to Walt.
I'm not sure it would bring things to a screeching halt. After all, he was in business long before Walt got involved in the "trade". But for his immediate plans killing Walt would bring *that* to a halt. He's trying to outmaneuver the Cartel. Walt's blue meth puts him in the driver's seat. His product is so much better than what they offered before, he's now able to make a play to become the true kingpin. Without him supplying the blue stuff to the other factions, he goes back to being plain old Gustavo and families like the Salamanca's take the top spot again.
@@servertest without Walt or Gale, his business is over. He's selling nothing else, and it looked like his other product came from the Cartel who he cut off entirely. That's why he was outmaneuvered and why Walt was willing to murder a man, because with Gale dead, he's the only the making the product at that quality and bulk
Remember when people were trying to tell you guys that Breaking Bad wasn't "reaction-worthy"? 🙄 👔🔪☠️🍵(I don't have a tea kettle 😬)
Who in the name of all hells said that? That is beyond silly
People did say that about better call saul which is sort of true but i really want them to watch it, not sure if they will like the slower pace though
@@loveoffilm4327 I love BCS but yeah, I'd agree that it's not necessarily "reaction-worthy." The show is totally thought-provoking, interesting, sometimes funny, and just an all-around amazing show, but it has farrrr fewer uhhh "reactive" moments than BB. But I'd have no idea how anyone would say BB isn't reaction-worthy.
BCS has plenty to react to. Just because it doesn't have the same adrenaline rush of BB doesn't mean they can't discuss the story elements. They can even use their knowledge of BB to guess what will happen next when old characters get re-introduced.
I think they'll love Better Call Saul. I've personally never found it slow at all as the Breaking Bad connection makes it so interesting.
7:27 is a great time stamp for all of those people who say Walt is just evil/only interested in himself/only uses people. Bryan Cranston's acting conveys the relief Walt feels, then the gratefulness to Jesse for saving his life, then the pain that he had to make Jesse do that. Bravo.
When Mike pulled his gun on Gus out of pure instinct, I nearly shit myself. And Walt and Jesse changing positions (and Jesse's staredown) told Gus everything he needed to know.

I know season 7 wasn't as good, everyone knows that. I don't see season 6 like that
@@dillmill7698 please. Game of thrones is a joke now.
I think all your explanations for why he killed Victor could definitely right. It also could be, and I'm inclined to think this, is that when Gus came in and saw Victor start cooking, he never told him to do that. So he stepped beyond what he should have been doing rather than waiting for the orders. Ruining materials, being disrespectful, etc.
Yes, I agree. Victor had two failures...he failed to keep Gale safe, and he overstepped his role by trying to cook. Victor could have survived one of those two failures, i think, but certainly not both. Combine that with being reckless by showing up at Gale's apartment, it was clear he had to go. I don't think Gus came in expecting to kill Victor.
@@knight8003 I always thought the main reason was that he was seen at a crime scene.

Another day, another dollar
Yes boss
He killed victor because he was seen at the scene at least that’s what I believe
Exactly and the way he checked the body and go was suspicious , like a killer who came back to the crime scene
Someone said a few weeks ago: "Chuck Norris checks under his bed for Mike." Well, Mike checks under his bed for Gus. Just because I haven't seen anyone else mention it: according to Vince Gilligan on a commentary track, the moment when Mike raises his gun at Gus & backs away was a spontaneous ad-lib from Johnathan Banks. The scene was too elaborate to set up for them to do multiple takes (what with all the pumping blood effects & makeup), so when Gilligan heard about Mike's reaction his first thought was "Well that doesn't make sense, we're probably going to have to edit around it somehow". But when he saw the dallies he realized that no, Mike's reaction in that moment was PERFECT.
Brian Gonigal that is awesome! Freaking Jonathan Banks. I bet even he didn’t k ow he was going to do that!
The entire scene with Gus made me feel like I held my breath. So powerful! 👔🗡☠🫖
OMG this show is gonna remain with you after you finish it for sure!
God, i love that you're doing 3 episodes per week, keep it up!
I really wanted to see: Mike: "you sure this will work"? Heisenberg and Jesse: "Trust us"
What do you mean?
@@jesuschrist5417 the line where Walt and Jesse assure Mike that the acid they dissolve the body in will work, implying to Mike that they've had to do this a few times already.
👔🔪⚠️🛢🔫🍵 It’s a common-held belief that the past 3 episodes should be binge-watched back-to-back, for reasons you can see now. This show is a masterpiece! Back when it came out I was a hard-core Mad Men fan, & was constantly frustrated that MM kept getting beat at the award shows by BB. I then started to watch it to see if all the hype was justified. Hoo boy, it sure was/is! I was hooked!
love how gus always used calm colors (light blue, beige, light yellow, light brown) up to that one day when he arrived dressed in black and red. he sent a message by violently killing victor and the message was "save it, walter. we're beyond reasoning now"
Ohhh season 4. How I love you
I like the transition when they mop the floor turns into sauce. Nice!!
I've been waiting for this one! This might be my favourite episode of BB, not counting the final 3 episodes. That scene with Gus in the lab is one of my all-time favourite film/TV scenes, and your reactions were exactly what I hoped they'd be!
Gus is such a fantastic villain! Giancarlo Esposito is downright chilling when he switches from his friendly-member-of-the-community persona facade into his ruthless and straight up terrifying REAL self. Characters like Gustavo Fring are infinitely more scary than any monster or supernatural creature in fiction to me... because they really exist and they're horrifying in their ability to both blend in with normal people and also commit cold-blooded murder without hesitation or remorse. 👔 🔪 ☠ 🍵
11:35 THEY’RE MINERALS!
"Right on top of that, Rose." BAHAHAHAHAHA! Awesome reference. I love 'Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead'.
THIS is how you fucking start a season, one of the best season premieres ever
Honestly, after a few clips of your BB reactions, i thoroughly enjoy one of you two exactly hitting nail on the head! I was so blind to those things when i saw it for the first time. Keep em coming, certainly brightens my day, when i see a new BB reaction. Sending you much love from southern Germany ;-)

Once again, you guys rock! Cheers!
The post these videos on Patreon but The episodes are full and uncut?
This had me so scared for Walt and Jesse.
Yep, in true Breaking Bad tradition when Walt and Jesse solve one problem they also manage to create an even bigger one. That whole scene with Gus was great. Gus being totally silent during the whole thing was so intimidating and shocking. It was funny that even Mike was shocked by Gus killing Victor. It goes to show that no one ever really knows what Gus is thinking. Victor had to go. He couldn't cook as well as Walt, he was seen at the crime scene and let's not forget he failed to stop Jesse from killing Gail. Jesse is trying his best to be numb to the situation. We'll see how well he can do at it. But he's right about Gus, he won't kill them but he also isn't just going to let this go.
That gag with the ketchup and bloody mop kinda brought me back to that particular GoT episode with Sam, lol.
I'm a simple girl, I see breaking bad reaction upload from Nikki and Steve, I click. Period. Yo.
How happy u must be to have picked BB to react to...seriously. This show shits on all others. Great acting, great storytelling, great cinematography..I could go on and on

👔🔪☠️🛢🍵 Didn’t have a tea kettle so I threw in the cup of green tea & a barrel for Victor I knew what was coming & I still jumped when Gus killed Victor. Even Mike pulled his gun on Gus I think Gus killed Victor because he was seen at the crime scene & could be connected back to Gus I think Gus would have a hard time replacing Gale because he groomed Gale for that job-paid for his school-he invested years in Gale
Gus coming into the lab and not saying a single word while he did that is such a brilliant scene
oh my. you guys move fast. Real fast. Other channels be mad annoying
This episode is directed by Adam Bernstein, who started as a Nickelodeon animator. He famously directed MTV videos like Love Shack (B52's) and Baby Got Back (Sir Mixalot). Adam worked on Oz, Homicide: Life on the Street, Entourage, 30 Rock, Scrubs, Orange Is The New Black, Shameless, Fargo, Better Call Saul. He also directed the recent Half Measures and ABQ. I think he has an amazing style and handles action and pace extremely well.

You just made me want to watch Breaking Bad all over again xD … I love your content!
Season 4 is bookended by a slow zoom-in to an “Oh sh*t” item. For the end of episode 1, it’s the lab notes. At the end of episode 13, it’s the lily of the valley plant.
Love watching your reactions to Breaking Bad, BB. I watched and followed your channel midway through Better Call Saul, BCS. I never realized though the gambling story Walt gave to Skyar was almost a for-shadow or homage to him gambling Jessie’s and his life in this very episode.
Johnathan Banks has played the main villain's top henchman for DECADES. The man was in Beverly Hills Cop for God's sake.
And now it begins
What a great way to start the weekend! Nikki, Steven and Gus Fring!
The audio when Gus slits Victor's throat, Gus yanks his head back and you can hear the skin tear a bit. FUCKING BRUTAL.
13:25 This part reminds me when you get in trouble as a kid and the parent in charge of discipline is quiet as they slowly get ready to do what they are going to do. The tension and suspense is worse than the actual punishment.
Ok, so the matching Kenny Rogers shirts... Kenny Rogers owns a chain of chicken-based restaurants, "Kenny Rogers Roasters".
Good chicken.
The cranking up is just getting started!! I'm so excited ! 😂🤣😂
Walt and Jesse weird clothes at the end reminds me alot of Pulp Fiction's the Wolf scene
You guys should watch The Magicians! It’s one of my favorite shows, it’s so criminally underrated. I always try to find more context for it, and try to find people talking about it, but there’s always so little and I’m just STARVING.
Those last 2 seasons are something else. Can't wait to see your reactions.
Great reaction. I love this episode, and especially the way it ends where you think it's over and then they play that music and zero in on Gale's lab notes. Just when you think there's a form of closure to that segment, they end the episode by opening up a whole new mystery. This is where Breaking Bad REALLY begins to excel and take off. I love the creative choices the filmmakers and directors made in episodes like this. It was pretty daring, but it worked. It's the little things they do like deciding to not have Gus say a word, the usage of the box cutter, and tying it to the cold open, the usage of Gus' steps up and down the staircase, and then again the music and ending with the lab notes. Other notes: in the cold open one of them says it's like Christmas morning, which is interesting bc when Gus first walked Walt into the lab last season, the music sounded like Christmas morning music like a kid in a candy factory. Also, Walt's product is 99% pure, whereas Gale can only get to 96%...
This was the episode that made me never miss an episode
Love your reactions. When Steven mentioned "what's going through Mike's head" (after Gus box cuts Hector). I was surprised that Mike pulled his gun on Gus for a second there.
When Steven says "I'm right on top of that Rose"....love d.t.m.t.b.d.....such a good movie. You both are awesome!

What I loved about Gus was the way he could go from calm and mild mannered to calm and deadly like flipping a light switch.
15:10 Everyone was so shocked that Gus kills Victor, even Mike aims his gun at Gus in fear.
Absolutey love Steven’s intros!
finally, the defining character moment for gus. been waiting along time for this
I'm pretty sure Victor was always meant to learn the cook recipe in order to assist Gale once Gus was able to kill Walt, but obviously Jesse got to Gale first. Gale would have needed an assistant that Gus would trust..
16:13 i man gus hit 3 birds with one stone. victor guy was seen at the crime scene. victor was suppose to be look out guy and not suppose to learn the recipe but he started cooking which means he is something who not only works for gus but secretly working with someone else and just wanted to know the recipe. so those were 2 reason why he had to die but gus killed him infront of walt and jesse to make a point. 😂
