The 2021 US Open main draw runs from August 30 - September 12 in New York City at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The tournament takes place for the 141st time and is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year. Dominic Thiem is the men’s singles defending champion but has withdrawn following an injury. Naomi Osaka is the women’s singles defending champion and will be aiming to claim the title for the third time in four years. Meanwhile, No. 1 seed Novak Djokovic looks to complete the calendar Grand Slam after winning the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon already this year. Should the Serbian lift the title here for the fifth time, he will also overtake Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to become the first-ever man to win 21 Grand Slam singles titles. With full capacity crowds back again, it’s time for the greatest return!

    • Federer's loss, was the most devastating! It's not that he lost, but the way he lost it! I would rather, he lost to Nadal in semi finals, than have the agony, of serving for the match, and being 2 points away from history, then being stabbed through the heart, and having PTSD!

      @pauljohnson6019@pauljohnson60192 жыл бұрын
    • Federer's 2019 loss is just a different level pain. If he pulled it off then that would have been one of the greatest sports feats EVER. Almost 38 years old beating Nadal and Djokovic respectively in Semi-Finale and Finale in almost 9 hours of tennis would have been superhuman. Not only that what came after that loss is just even more pain. Two knee surgeries and getting bageled on his favorite surface and court. Nadal and Djokovic have a couple of GS finals left in them surely but that was probably Federer's last GS Finale ever and to look back on how it ended is so heartbreaking. I can even say that Federer was the better player that day but just could not convert the crucial points. Roger Federer deserved better but can not deny that Djokovic deserved to win as well.

Tsitsipas (French Open) and Zverev had their chances, but they got too flashy and tried too hard to force the points. Yes everybody knows that few humans can deal with such emotions and pressure which Novak did really well to contain until the final. However, I do believe Zverev, did play a much higher quality game with his groundstrokes...he just bottled it at crucial intervals that swung the match. On the other hand, Medvedev deserves heaps of credit for not providing any openings to improve Novak's confidence and rhythm. Hence, both are right...Novak struggled under overwhelming pressure, but Daniil played a safe, risk-free game to add to Nole's burdens.

    • It really was. Djokovic didn’t “choke” except for a couple crucial games. For the most part, he just got dominated by the better player today. It’s funny because haters will try to troll him for “only” winning 20 slams and “only” winning 3 this year. Djokovic faced an opponent who was a machine today.

Novak will surpass Fedal in following years no doubt, he is much better than them. Novak was hated most of the tournament but when he got close to losing the crowd showed hipocricy and started supporting him.
