It's funny how despite being 20 years old, the CGI in the Brendan Fraser version looks way better than in the Tom Cruise version. Not to mention the CGI was actually top notch at the time.

I got horrified the first time half watching this movie when I was little. I did get through it one time when I was a teen long time ago. Like seriously, scarabs and curses that go along with decomposed bodies are so terrifying that it will give any person like me nightmares!
A truly fun and well-crafted movie. Still holds up after 20 years. They don't make 'em like this anymore!

Cian Chatten Brendan is only fifty .He’s not that old plus he’s still handsome and hot .Tom cruise who is about 56 years old did the mummy 2017 .I don’t think anyone complained about him being in his fifties apart from the fact that the film itself is not as good as the 1999 franchise .Age is just a number at the end of the day and the story outline and the characters chemistry are the things that really matter .Brendan Fraser still can walk and he took part in great movies and Tv shows in recent years .Check out Trust and Doom Patrol.

Nostalgia critic and others exept Adam olinger thinks that this is just cheesy and not so good but this is even better than the original. The only reason critics think that 32 version is better is because it is a part of history and more historically accurate? Because i did some research and apart from the scroll of thoth , the Stephen sommer duology is more historically accurate because they hired to have an Egyptolygist on site and Arnold vasloo actually spoke anicent egyptian that the Egyptolygist wrote for him in a way he can say it. The original was good not bad , but the remake is much better . It took the concept built upon it and gave it a unique feel and I am proud to say this is my generations Indiana jones except for the third one it was bad.

@@sharilshahed6106 I am not saying that they are not funny but that they don't care for what others might think , In nostalgia critic's review of the mummy 1999 he said that people will forget it very soon but no they did not they still remember it for the fun and adventure it brought to many at the time one of the biggest disappointment ever and hell he did not even complement the music hell even those who did not like it that much said that the music is top notch. And the way he said it and said that Fraser was not cast well in the movie just made me want to punch him in the face and He just kept bashing him despite the fact many love his role in that movie along with the rest of the crew . And then there is Justice league the movie Snyder left to be with his family after his daughter committed suicide and Joss weadon reshot the whole movie and He still says that there are parts that are still snyder but no it is Weadon trying to emulate Snyder .

I remember seeing this in theaters in 1999 when I was eleven, and it absolutely blowing my mind. And twenty years later, _The Mummy_ is still one of my favorite flicks. It's pretty much the perfect "popcorn flick"- entertaining, endearing, and endlessly rewatchable. I'm pretty sure I've watched it more than any other movie. It was always a go-to for family movie nights and I still pop it on quite frequently.

I don't care if The Mummy or The Mummy Returns has flaws, no movie is perfect, it's the emotions and feelings a movie entices in you. And The Mummy, with its Egyptian theme, set in the desert, really makes you feel something else. I have watched both movies several times, and always love watching them. They bring back childhood memories, and just makes you feel like you're on a little Egyptian adventure while watching it.

I think it might be that the Tom Cruise version was trying to take itself seriously. Very seriously. Like, waaaaaay too seriously. Whereas this one, when told it was completely ridiculous, responded, "YES! And isn't it GLORIOUS! Let's go and HAVE FUN WITH IT!".

This Mummy series is one of my favourites! I loved how the characters and their interactions were a huge focus, sometimes even more than the actual plot, which gave us a lot to like about them.

I believe there was one review of this which said something along the lines of "I have nothing good to say about it except that I enjoyed it immensely" (which is at least half the point of a movie's existence tbh)

It's really pretty amazing how the nostalgia goggles just...filter out all the violence. I was like 'yeah let's watch this with my kid, he'll love it' and I mean...he did, but I was also kind of going 'wtf I do not remember it being this violent when I was ten!'
The thing i love about this movie the enjoyment of its plot simplicity. We know that the bad guy is the one that died in the narration, we know that the group will awake him, we know they will stop him. But all of that with great visual effects and acting. Its the kind of movie that you find by accident, playing again in tv, that you turn off your thoughts and simple enjoy the movie.
Brendan Fraser was a 90's movie legend. Viewers lost out hard when Hollywood turned their back on this guy.
Well, he got old (and fat). And he was mainly casted for being an eye-candy for the ladies (not saying he's not a brilliant actor. just saying that's what he was casted for by casting directors).
Right now he's brilliant in Doom Patrol.

Being sexually assaulted (allegedly) by HFPA president, which likely led to him being blacklisted. Or having a son on the autism spectrum. There's a lot of stuff going on, to say he's not getting jobs cuz he's old and fat is disingenuous.

I'm so happy to see him. I'm watching trust just bc he is in it and it's great. For the person saying that he is just eye candy, you sound jealous. He actually has great acting chops. Yes, he is a pretty face (even today) but he backs it up with talent. I'd watch a new version of the mummy with today's Brendan Fraser before I'd watch the Tom cruise version.

That Benny scene at the end where he gets trap with all those treasures and beetles. Gave me sleepless nights. Good thing there is Rachel Weisz to counter the curse.

My mates and I snuck into this film when it first came out. For a bunch of 9 year old boys it was the most glorious thing we’d ever seen!! It’s never lost that childhood magic for me.
This movie holds up against time... Still one of my favorites.
This is my favourite childhood movie. It was on tv constantly growing up. I remember watching it in German while on holiday. We were so familiar with movie we knew what they were talking about the whole time.
