    • I was in the army over a decade. Women recruits made more money than the men ( because men in Denmark are drafted women start as constables) women have more time to pass the 5k run. They get things to step on during the obstacle course and generally they would get all the easiest tasks. I did know one or two women that would lift more run faster and work harder than most men, but that was definitely not the norm.

  • Mr Murray would be right to dismiss interpreting society by interest groups because morality comes from one higher than ourselves. Trouble is our society has lost sight of who this is. The influencing social divide that once governed our society was that of good and evil defined by the 10 commandments.

    • I have just recently revisited Orwell’s 1984 & the thing that struck me most was, as you have precisely identified, doublethink and newspeak have now been hard-wired & fully assimilated into our media and on-line narratives to such an extent that they have subverted both our use of language & our common-sense ability to objectively and rationally examine and discuss almost every topic under the sun. We now longer agree to disagree, or say we need time to think complex things through, all judgement has currently morphed into no more than an immediate reflex action. The other thing that the book 1984 reminded me of was the systematic and wilful destruction of love as a social good and its calculated replacement by universal hatred which we seemingly as a species have also undertaken almost without any comment or reaction. Hate, hatred, war, polarisation, divide and rule, ghettoisation and divisiveness are all there seems to be in our world in 2024. How did we get here? More importantly how do we get out of here?

  • Putting people into tight, essentialist boxes, according to characteristics they didn't choose, seems like the road to fascism. One group gains, one group stays about the same, one is victimized; each takes shots at each other, and blurring between the boxes or moving becomes a crime. All while the group on top smiles and claims it's for the best and nicest of reasons.

    • How _do_ we help ensure that all people have similar opportunities regardless of race, gender and sexuality? Do we want that? Because if we do we have to think about these things at least a little bit. Because people have prejudices that will win out without systems that account for them. It’s a ridiculous straw man to suggest that everyone concerned with these issues thinks people are entirely defined by race or gender or whatever. Isn’t it the opposite of defining people by their race or gender to say that you should be able to access every opportunity your talents permit regardless of those characteristics? There’s some double think going on there, surely?

      @lkyuvsad@lkyuvsad13 күн бұрын
    • @@lkyuvsad Easy. Focus on equal opportunity. That where we were in the 90s. The problem (for activists) becomes that it's slow, flawed, and insufficiently extreme. So the objective drifts into equality of outcomes (which is theoretically and practically impossible). This approach must push the classification and regimentation of people into tight boxes - because that is what is measured, that is the success factor: if a measure is racial diversity, you have to measure everyone participating or wanting to get involved by race - whatever that is. And every other intersectional gradation: ethnicity, language, accent, gender, mental illness, disability and so on. And which aspect - remediable, and worth focussing on for social mobility - is getting ignored? Class, aka poverty. By focussing on tight boxes of characteristics that can't be changed, we risk ignored the most obvious one that can - adjusting for equal opportunity and access for the economically disadvantaged.

EVERY state and federal government on mainland Australia is currently Labour/left.. and that should bother anyone, regardless of any personal political bent, who is determined to make sure we remain a free, secular democracy.

That doesnt mean we are equal in other areas, i.e strength, proclivities, specialities, etc. Men are better/best at some things and women at others. Men have wide shoulders to protect. Women have wide hips to nurture. Those things dont change no matter how much the world says so or tries to distort or destroy it. God help us.

Should anyone be shut out of applying for certain jobs solely on assumptions based on gender or on their demonstrated competence at the job in question? Anytime I hear people say something like, "Shut up and just accept who and what you are." I often wonder if what they really mean is, "Shut up and accept my untested assumptions regarding your capabilities." Though I find woke extremism profoundly silly, I find that the right tends to revert to an unwillingness to recognise the talents and accomplishments of the outliers.

Then ask yourself what is there in those widely accepted principles that we should honestly reject?

      @bearowen5480@bearowen548014 күн бұрын
    • @@bearowen5480 indeed, the universal truth lies way beyond the human capacity to understand. As for our behaviour, we can only perceive things from our limited 3 dimensional 5 senses perspective. The Ten Commandments and seven deadly sins are but mere fairytales, used to control the masses. If you fail to recognise this it clearly demonstrates the truth of what I say. Only those that accept the fourth, and further dimension, sixth and even seven sense and beyond, whether or not we understand such, realises this truth that we simply cannot know the truth of the universe. Why the divine is a mystery that can not be named. And “God” is a name, a false truth.

Football ads show women and young girls determined to succeed , despite the obstacles put in their way . In one , the caring dad gets his community to help his young daughter , who has been stopped by some old guy from playing football in the backyard , put together a workable football field . A very commendable course of action depicting a caring male ; a old male who doesn't ' get ' young girls playing football in the streets ( like boys do much of the time ) ; and community spirit harnessed to further the cause of girls football . Another , an advert for the RAF , shows a determined female determined to attain fighter pilot status - a small propeller driven aircraft is not good enough for her ! It's everywhere .
