    • They are part of the plan to replace the fleeing citizens. See, the Congressional appropriation is based off of population (The apportionment calculation is based upon the total resident population (citizens and noncitizens) of the 50 states.) This impacts the electoral college. So the influx of illegals helps the Dems maintain where the Presidential votes are in their controlled states (CAli/NY/Ore/Ill..). They are insuring "their" desired result.

    • Stop focusing on Newsom. The problem did not start with him…and it will not be solved by his removal. California is a single party state, with people being people, all the corruption that brings. The fault lies with the people of California. They keep electing these people who have their head up their a$$. Want someone to blame…look at your neighbor and in the mirror. Don’t think because you are a Republican this does not apply to you. I watched that state party commit suicide in the 80’s and 90’s in order to secure one more term cycle in office for their incumbent politicians rather than adjust to future reality.

Salaries aren’t keeping up with the cost of living for state workers to live here. They are losing workers or having a hard time filling positions (especially with single people). You have to have a dual income household ( both working) to get by.

  • I live in SF. It's both better and worse than Dave made it out to be. Yes, some large parts of the city experience what he described, but I'd say 70% of the city is not full of the fentanyl zombies. That said, they show up everywhere, and break-ins, automotive theft, etc come for all of us. You unbelievably do get used to all that, but what you don't get used to is how unreasonably expensive, dirty, and unaccommodating it is. Everyone here will at least somewhat openly hate on white men and touts horrible politics and opinions, many people are overpaid and work 20 hrs a week, so they don't mind the $20 cocktails and $25 sandwich combos, but as a startup founder, it's subjectively awful.

    • Silly. To identify the happiest cities in America, according to residents, 24/7 Tempo reviewed the happiness score of all 383 metro areas in the U.S. from digital health company Sharecare’s Community Well-Being Index. The index measures whether individuals feel a sense of purpose, have supportive relationships, are financially secure, satisfied with their community, and are in good physical health. Sharecare surveyed more than 450,000 U.S. adults, concentrating on these five areas of individual well-being, as well as analyzed more than 600 elements of social determinants of health from additional data sources. The West and Rocky Mountains regions, specifically California and Colorado, appear to be the states with the most cities where residents feel happy. The happiness of residents in the GREATER SAN FRANCISCO area - the winner for a second year in a row - is bolstered by strong performance in several categories, including housing and transportation, food access, and financial stability, according to Sharecare.

Also I live in Diamond Heights, one of the nicest neighborhoods in San Francisco, and the thieves have been stealing so much from the Diamond Heights Walgreens and Safeway so much that they’re half empty and the stuff that’s on the shelves, shampoo and such, is all locked up. I witnessed a Walgreens manager get hit in the head with a skateboard in Diamond Heights. It’s definitely come up the hills to the nicer areas also. I saw a tent encampment on Portola recently. It’s reaching into areas that were considered practically the suburbs before.

I left CA in 1991 partly because the cost of living was so high and I hated the politics. As much as I didn’t want to live in San Francisco, I loved visiting the city and my wife would accompany me every time I attended a conference in the city. • Manufacturing left California in the early 1990s when the Cold War ended, as it was lots of military equipment manufacturing. Its not coming back as the land prices to build facilities on, or the lease rates on existing facilities, are way too high, and the wages needed to get skilled people to live and work in the suburban areas would also be too high.

    @crosslink1493@crosslink149319 күн бұрын
    • Wrong. According to Business Wire despite California’s famously high cost of living, the state remains the largest contributor to the U.S. manufacturing industry in terms of both employment and output. A comprehensive new analysis examines the manufacturing industry in California and reveals some surprising findings that contradict the popular perception that the industry and its workers have been priced out of the state. “But the headlines we read miss the striking advances that have occurred in output as a result of innovations, improvements, and investments in production processes - particularly in high tech.” The report, produced by Beacon Economics LLC and commissioned by California Manufacturing Technology Consulting (CMTC), found that the state’s manufacturing output has exceeded the national rate by 83% since the late 1990s. And contrary to widespread belief, California’s share of manufacturing jobs in the United States has ticked up slightly since 2000, currently standing at 11%.

  • One of the problems with "Tech Billionaires" is that many are a pure product of investment capital, and not any real value. Elizabeth Holmes is a great example, she was a "Billionaire" at one point, thanks to Theranos stock, but that company was apparently purely fraudulant. Any billionaires created by Moderna would be another great example, as Moderna has only gotten one product to market, and that was only because that product was allowed to breeze through FDA authorizations and approvals. Had those standards not been lowered 90%, Moderna would be a 13 year old company with zero products ever sold.

Just to be clear this bloke didn’t lose an election in leaving politics , it was for health reasons. It is the greatest disappointment to me that he did not end up with PM after his name. This country may well have had a good future ahead of it if this were so, instead we are being run by Green Socialists who are running us into the ground, (just like LA ). Dave from Australia.

But, I worry that what we have is a first world country, with super rich owners, and a lower class staffing the places. An economist would have some smarter theories here, but I'm thinking this might be our advantage. But for the middle class? Not so much. The basic plot that Detective Jack Nicholson, discovered by accident, was the drought in the movie was intentionally caused to drive the farmers out of business so that their land could be bought for peanuts.. which corporations are buying up the vacant properties? It might be worth looking into the corporate connection to the local government officials. Who in their right mind would allow which to happen?
