George Foreman vs Muhammad Ali // "The Rumble in the Jungle" (Highlights)
George Foreman vs. Muhammad Ali, billed as The Rumble in the Jungle, was a heavyweight championship boxing match on October 30, 1974, at the 20th of May Stadium (now the Stade Tata Raphaël) in Kinshasa, Zaire (now Democratic Republic of the Congo), between undefeated and undisputed heavyweight champion George Foreman and Muhammad Ali. The event had an attendance of 60,000 people. Ali won by knockout in the eighth round.
It has been called "arguably the greatest sporting event of the 20th century" and was a major upset, with Ali coming in as a 4-1 underdog against the unbeaten, heavy-hitting Foreman. The fight is famous for Ali's introduction of the rope-a-dope tactic.
Some sources estimate that the fight was watched by as many as one billion television viewers around the world, becoming the world's most-watched live television broadcast at the time. This included a record estimated 50 million viewers watching the fight pay-per-view on closed-circuit theatre TV. The fight grossed an estimated $100 million (inflation-adjusted $500 million) in worldwide revenue. Decades later, the bout would be the subject of the Academy Award winning documentary film When We Were Kings
THESE TWO ARE BOTH GREAT CHAMPIONS, LOVE THEM! IT IS NO SHAME TO LOOSE TO ALI.
It's been 48 years since "The Rumble In The Jungle", and I still will take time to watch any new video about it. I still like watching the entire fight. I never get bored with it.

Once foreman said in an interview that thought to knock ali out within 1 or 2 rounds but when at third he hit ali and he fell on him ali said: "george is that all you can do? show me something!" In that moment he knew he was in the wrong place with the wrong person. Ali was simply astonishing

This was the greatest moment in all of sporting history. Foreman was undefeated and considered the most fearsome heavyweight in history and Ali was supposedly past his prime. Yet the great man pulled it off using the most unlikely strategy and people talk a lot about Ali's attributes as a boxer, but he also had the heart of a lion.

The fact Ali fought over 50 mostly competitive rounds with Frazier and Norton and Foreman knocked both Frazier and Norton out in about 5 minutes and Ali then KO'd Foreman I still can't get my head around. 😃

Absolutely the greatest thing ever seen in a boxing ring.
I would have to tend to agree ,it's my greatest boxing memory of all time.
The greatest fight in boxing history bar none

The other thing I want to say is how calm and open Ali was with his team in the dressing area after the fight; hugs all around. Genuine smiles and eye contact. Imagine the elation and pride they had in this great man and he returned a lot of love to them. Then as soon as the lights were on and the the press conference began, there he was - Ali the showman, feeding the press with quotes and headlines. But the Ali locking eyes with Ferdie Pacheco, and in that briefest of moments acknowledging between old friends who had been through so much together - we knew this would happen - and Angelo Dundee shaking his head in wonder at Jim Brown - that’s the Ali I will never forget.
When Forman was falling, Ali was having enough time to land 2 to 3 killer punches, which allmost all the boxers generaly do. But, Ali just watched him falling, to win not to destroy. 🌹 Ali, that is why you r the GREATEST 🌹
Absolutely.
Na, that was more like a cat playing with its prey. He was hoping he would get back up so he could beat him more, just like Liston.
Marciano was the worst at that. Joe Walcott was slumped unconscious against the ropes and Marciano got in one last left hook.
@@mandolindleyroadshow706 Oh please, he barely tapped him before he realized he was out and then walked off...watch Mercer Morrison KO lol.
Yeah, almost everybody acknowledges that.
That night cemented Ali as the greatest of all-time. We knew he was, but this proved it.
Remember this was not the young Ali. He was deprived of 3 of his best years due to refusing to be drafted. Watch some of his fights before his being banned. He was the fastest heavyweight ever, by far. His dance combined with his incredible ability to avoid head shots enabled him to out-box, and later KO, larger opponents. The young Ali would have toyed with Foreman, or Tyson for that matter. Or even a young Joe Louis, whose speed was nowhere near Ali’s.

The class that Ali had was incredible. This fight was an exhibition in boxing and how Ali mentally broke down Foreman. With all that said, I always marvel at Round 8, with 12 seconds to go; what some call the greatest punch "never thrown". Ali knows he has foreman beat, knows Foreman is falling, and has the class to not throw that punch, wow!
Thats is one of his greatness..! I love that man his really GOAT!

The best punch ever in boxing history is that final punch Ali refused to throw at Foreman. And that's where greatness rests.

Unless you were living in that era fans will never understand how big & bad George was. For Ali to ko him was unbelievable. The Greatest!
Yes absolutely correct
To think about it, this is the stuff of legend. Maybe it could be part of African-American folklore. A warrior got in the ring with a beast and slayed him. 🤔
Ali was man of steel. After 7 rounds George knew I m done and can’t defeat great Ali. Ali was mentally very strong and brave and technically good so Won.
he was not the stronger between him n foreman nor with all the heavyweights. but beats them many times by the strength of his will and skill. not just brute strength. pretty much mike jordan. many said during their last campaign for another 3peat, he was no longer prime. he just cant blow past them like he used to. true. many younger and skilled dogs are positioning themselves to superstardom. giving the bulls a dogfight. but one see it all in 96-98. he'll find a way to find. and the bulls did. in.boxing, that's Ali.
He imposed his style And drawn Forman to deep water 🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺
AND, 100XS BETTER BOXER THAN FOREMAN
Ali d v won regardless of just how the fight was fought!!
@@user-rt5br1zi3u I am confused tho was foreman not pushing hard enough cuz it looked like foreman had the right idea pin Ali on the ropes and try to go Mike Tyson crazy with the vicious body punches
Saw two of the Ali-Frazier fights on closed-circuit t.v. as a kid. This one, was not televised, Jim Brown helped announce; somehow I got it on radio round summary from Zaire. No one gave Muhammad a chance. I was trembling. When the news of the eighth round came, out it was stunning. Only twenty years later did it come out on video. The eighth round was the greatest round, I have seen. The most monumental anyway! Thank you!!
Ali could absorb a tremendous amount of punishment and remain standing. Just one reason he was the greatest.
Ali absorbed some wicked body punches. But if Foreman had connected with some head shots. Ali would have went down just like Foreman’s other opponents.
@@5star64 bollocks, he took Ernie shavers best shots all night when he was a shell of himself. Ali different league from anyone.
@@davidfairbairn8 Ali was hit with one shot at a time. And then he grabbed and clinched. He did not take Shavers best punches. What knocks out top contenders and champions is getting hit with a series of punches .Punches that land back to back. Ali was never hit with several punches at a time because of his ability to grab and hold his opponents all through a fight. Ali took a good one punch from Shavers here and there in the fight. But he did not take Shavers best punches. Ali’s ability to take a punch is vastly overrated. If Ali had been hit by Shavers the way Ken Norton was hit by Shavers with punch after punch after punches in consecutive order. Ali would have been knocked out too. Shavers through over 30 blows at Norton in consecutive order without Norton trying to hold before Norton went down for the first knockdown. If Ali had been hit like that he would have went down too.
@markeith k I mean yeah doesn't matter how tough you are, you get hit too many times you're going down. The fact that Ali could take a good one and not get hit the second time was a testimony to his toughness. Like Ron Lyle said "so many people could take shots, but Ali was the only one who could take a good hit and still come back at you strong". Unfortunately, Norton and Frazier were not like that.
@5star64 this is stupid. The fact that he limited the combinations only enhances his greatness. Take away your opponents strengths and turn them into a weakness. Thats how you win fights.
That is why Ali is the GOAT!
The age difference between Ali amd Foreman is quite astonishing 8 to 9 years gap. At the age of Ali many Boxer would retire and Foreman was at his Prime and despite this Ali won the match. And it was the mental of Ali which was stronger than iron and his determination to win that made him so powerful..
True Ali drawn Forman to deep water
I watched the full fight again this week, which I do at least once a year. Foreman looked like he was set to go in round 5, but somehow stayed on his feet. Credit to George for taking a few tremendous Ali right hands right on the button. Then in the break before round 8 Joe Frazier was asked and he said “It looks like George ain’t gonna make it”. What a great call. Then round 8 looked like a copy of round 5 with Ali fighting out of the corner in the final 30 seconds. This time he stood Foreman up with a left hook and followed with a brutal right hand that ended the fight. Afterwards Ali wanted everyone to know he was a better boxer - “I’m a pro” - and that he kept telling Foreman all through the fright - “You don’t know how to box”. What a great performance by Ali.
Ali the greatest of all times , credit to forman too especially when he regained his title 20 years later at the age of 45 against a much younger opponent Michael Moorer.
Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

What more can be said. He was in great form in this fight. Speed, power, endurance, toughness, supreme confidence …he had it all on display. Foreman was in his prime with peak punching power, but it wasn’t enough on that night against the GOAT heavyweight of our lifetime. ✌️
Ali won, but Big George was frightening. Two legends
That was intelligence, resistance, quickness, punch power, and he had a plan. That was Ali.

Muhammad Ali (Cassius Clay) was truly one of the greatest boxing champions. In addition to such a great fighter, he was also a colorful personality with a great sense of humor. Ali boasted about many things, but humbly stated that when asked the question 'Who would have given you the toughest fight?' Ali admitted that Rocky Marciano 'would be the most trouble'. In another interview, Ali admitted that Rocky Marciano probably would have won. Ali had a great respect for Marciano..and even said 'Marciano and I were good friends' It was reported that Ali cried when he heard what happened to Marciano, who was killed in a plane crash. Ali showed both class and courage in this fight.
Nobody could have beat Foreman in that moment, except Ali. Ali was one in a billion.
Bout begun by the punch of Muhammmad Ali And bout ended by the punch of Muhammad Ali Thats All Ali Boumayee
Ali was the ultimate defensive fighter. After being battered for 8 rounds, Ali delivered the combination that sent Foreman slowly sinking to the canvas, completely defenseless. Ali had the opportunity to deliver a killer last punch but held off, to his great credit. After this fight Foreman was a changed man, a much better man, freed from his hatred of Ali and willing to accept defeat.
Not true at all. Foreman took years to lose his hatred for Ali. After the fight Foreman complained that he was poisoned. That he was the victim of a quick count. And the legitimate complaint that the ropes were loose allowing Ali to lean his head out over the top rope and outside of the footprint of the ring and away from Foreman’s punches. He demanded an immediate rematch. But there was never going to be a rematch. Ali was to smart for that.
@@5star64 Here's what Angleo Dundee said about the ropes - "I thought he (Ali) was crazy with his 'rope-a-dope', lying on the ropes while George hit him. People thought we had worked on it as a tactic but no. They were saying I'd loosened the ropes to let Muhammad lean back. But I had gone round the ring tightening them and they were still loose as a goose because of the heat.". The insinuation that Ali's camp loosened the ropes has been debunked many times before.
@@dratz50 Of course Angelo Dundee was going to say that. Do you think Dundee was going to say I loosened the ropes on purpose so Ali could lean his head back outside the footprint of the ring and away from Foreman’s punches. A year later in the thrilla in Manila. The Heat was far more intense but the ropes remained tight throughout the fight. Compare the ropes from the two fights. Since when does a fighter’s trainer get to set up the ring. That should have been the job of WBA and WBC officials. The ropes were ridiculously loose. It was the heavyweight championship of the world fought in a WWE wrestling ring. Foreman was exceptional at cutting off the ring. So there were going to be times when Ali was on the ropes. The loose ropes helped Ali tremendously. That along with excessive holding and clinching wore Foreman down. Ali put his gloves behind Foreman’s neck and pulled his head down every few seconds of every round. That’s what tired Foreman out. Not the so called rope a dope. The only round where Ali laid on the ropes and stayed there was the 5th round. You can see clearly that the top rope is so loose Foreman’s head punches can’t even reach Ali’s head. I believe in a legitimate boxing ring Ali would have been knocked out by George Foreman. And that’s why Muhammad Ali never gave George Foreman a rematch.
@5star64 ...Dundee did not loosen the ropes, PERIOD!!!
Yes,this was the best, greatest Boxing fight, ever ---- how a much more powerful George Foreman was eventually knocked out in 8th round by Muhammad Ali. It was Power vs Skill of Boxing Game---- all along the fight Foreman was using Power, and all along the fight, Ali was using Skillful reaction, eventually Skill knocking out the gross Power ----- and that was ineed the beauty of whole FIGHT. This fight is worth watching again and again---- SKILL over POWER.

Ali won because he brought his best game. George was to uptight and lost his cool. Overall George Foreman is the tougher man and proved that point to this day !
When everybody was crowding around Ali, just after he had won, when they were trying to lift him up, he motioned for them to put him down. It then looks like he actually collapsed, though you can't see it very clealy, due to the amount of people around him. Hardly surprising, if he did, mind you, given his tremendous exertions through that extreme heat.
